I try:

How to display a welcome page
Wow, I can''t believe that after a few weeks of playing around with Rails I
got stuck on something that seems like it should be really simple.
How do I display a default welcome page for visitors who are not logged in
and send logged in users to the appropriate controller. I am using the
login_engine and the user_engine.
The two methods I have seen looking at sample code are to stick a

Caching of models?
Hello, people!
I have a problem. I googled, asked for help on IRC. I can''t find an
answer. Suppose I have model Cart (from "Agile Web Development with
Rails"). I added call to logger.warn("Some warning") to one of it''s
methods. It fails with NameError, because ''logger'' is unknown to
model.

data insertion in multiple tables
I have two tables like:
Table A:
id (autoincrement)
name
Table B
id
id_of_A
desc
I want to add a record to table A and based on the id of A, I want to add a
record to table B.
I don''t think there is any SQL command that support this (at least in MySQL
4.1, so I use LAST_INSERT_ID()).
(Is there any other way? or MySQL 5 support any special SQL command?)
But I need

can store array or hash in cookies?
Hi
According to rdoc: value - the cookie''s value or list of values (as an
array).
So, I can use arrays, briliant.

Creating sub actions
Hi,
So finally I have also decided to roll my engines on Rails. But I am
kind of stuck in a situation. I understand that for every model there is
a controller class. This controller class has cirtain set of methods
where each method defines cirtain action to be performed. And each of
this action renders cirtain UI.

Now let say I have a object "Car". Apart from

Eleven??
I was poking around in the Gentoo Linux repository yesterday, trying to
satisfy my curiosity about how many programming languages there are in
"common use" today. I found one called "Eleven" which is quite strangely
similar in intent to Rails. The home page is
http://eleven.sourceforge.net/.
Eleven is much simpler than Rails, and there are some interesting ideas
in it. To

Thai keyboard input does not work
Hello *,
I'm currently migrating a friend to Kubuntu 7.10. He's forced to use a service which works with IE only (no other browser can display their website). Fortunately, IE6 works with Wine (I used ies4linux 2.99.0 (http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux) to set it up), but unfortunately only with the English keyboard layout: When we switch to Thai (KDE shortcut Ctrl-Alt-K), the focused

Understanding lustre setup ..
Hello,
I have been reading
http://wiki.lustre.org/images/1/1b/Hadoop_wp_v0.4.2.pdf for setting up
Hadoop over lustre.
Generally in hadoop setup, we have 1 Namenode and various number of datanodes.
If I want to setup the same keeping Lustre as backend, in the document
it is mentioned that:

one is mds/namenode, the rest are

How to extract parameter estimates of variance function from lme fit
Dear R-Users,
I have a question concerning extraction of parameter estimates of
variance function from lme fit.
To fit my simulated data, we use varConstPower ( constant plus power
variance function).
fm<-lme(UPDRS~time,data=data.simula,random=~time,method="ML",weights=varConstPower(fixed=list(power=1)))
I extract the results of this function by using the following codes:

files-from and filter from one file?
Hi,
I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have tried millions of
combinations of settings.
Is it possible to somehow combine --files-from and --filter into one file,
so that I can use one here-document?
Using the + directive in --filter seems to always give me slightly different
results.
What I do now is without --files-from, but it means the directory tree is
