I need superman!
I have a legacy database that I can''t figure out. I''ve tried hundres of times and spent way tooooo much time trying to figure this out. I don''t think that rails can do it. Maybe there is a superman here who can get this too work. I''m going to post my sql dump to produce a very simple database. If anyone can get rails to work with this THEY WILL BE MY

legacy database on remote host
I''m getting this error in webrick then it crashes leaving nothing in the log. ruby: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mysql-2.7/lib/mysql.so: undefined symbol: mysql_sqlstate Here is the standard query I would normally write to get the data. select * from child, parent where CONCAT(SUBSTRING(child.item_number,1,14,''00'') = parent.order_number and

legacy database and finder_sql nightmare!
This is my first rails app with a legacy database and I''m having a terrible time getting the models set up correctly. I have an order table that has a primary field named order_number. I have a name table with a primary of item_number. These two tables are liked by the item_number and the order_number, but not as you might think. If the order_number is 2500, then each entry in

exact string match?
Dear R users: I need to compare character strings stored in 2 separate data frames. I need an exact match, so finding "a" in "animal" is no good. I've tried regexpr, match, and grepl, but to no avail. Anybody know how to accomplish this? Confidence Bands in Polynomial Regression
Hello R users, Given a linear (in the parameters) regression model where one predictor x interacts with time and time*time (ie, a quadratic effect of time t): y = b0 + b1(x) + b2(t) + b3(t^2) + b4(x*t) + b5(x*t^2) + e, I would like to construct 95% confidence bands (optimally, shaded) around this function: *dy* = b1 + b4(t) + b5(t^2) *dx* That is, the partial effect of x on y changing over

Exact String Compare in R?
Dear R users: Here's a barebones example of what I can't make work. As you can see, regexpr() does not perform an exact string match, which only occurs in row 1 of these data frames. Instead, as it's supposed to do, it finds "b" in "bb" and "c" in "cc". Does anybody know what function I can use such that only the first rows would be matched (ie,

bioassay, excel
It's not in R, but the system described in the pair of papers our group published in the Journal of Biomolecular Screening late last year: http://jbx.sagepub.com/cgi/content/refs/8/6/624 http://jbx.sagepub.com/cgi/content/refs/8/6/634 is based on S-PLUS and StatServer. It was also presented at the Insightful Tech. Conf. back in 2000. For Excel/R connection, look for the R-(D)COM server on

Bioassays Yielding concentration-Mortality data
Dear all, I'm trying reproduce an example of bioassays Yielding Concentration-Mortality Data particularly control - adjustment model from book Bioassay of Entomopathogenic Microbes and Nematodes chapter 7 with R. I used glm with family=binomial and link=probit, but I do not know how to implement parameter gamma (control mortality - mortality of the untreated control insect in this exaple)

Comparing figures?
Hello, I am working on tests to compare figures. I have been using ImageMagick, which creates a figure signature, and I can compare a "test" figure signature against a saved "reference" figure signature. It seems to work pretty well. However, it is slow as it requires reading from the file system. Are there any options to compare figures on memory? For example, if I

Alternate error structures in lme4?
Hi R users, The nlme library enabled several alternate error structures useful for longitudinal or repeated-measures data. For example, a continuous AR(1) process: model_2 = update(model_1, correlation = corCAR1(form = ~ time | subject)) Does anybody know if this is available in lme4? Thank you Ben -- View this message in context:

Bug?
Hello, In my code I found something that looks like an anomaly, I found a reproducible example in which I am just trying to compare each row in a data frame against the first row: a<-data.frame(row=c("B","C","B"),column=c(2,2,10),assay=c("Assay1","Assay1","Assay1"),plate=c(1,1,1),stringsAsFactors=FALSE) apply(a[1:2,],1,function(x) {

Comparing figures?
I suggest perceptual diff. You could write a wrapper around it. http://pdiff.sourceforge.net On Mon, 7 May 2018 16:49 Ramiro Barrantes, <ramiro at precisionbioassay.com> wrote: > Hello, > > I am working on tests to compare figures. Samba 2.0.3 in Domain
We're encountering sporadic difficulties with Samba 2.0.3 on Sun SPARC Solaris 2.5.1 and 2.7 running in "security = DOMAIN" mode. The PDC logs an error 5722, with text "The session setup from the computer MERCURY failed to authenticate. The name of the account referenced in the security database is MERCURY$. The following error occurred: Access is denied.". The smb log

Samba 2.2.4 and Solaris 8
I'm having a couple of problems with Samba 2.2.4 on Solaris 8. First problem - Using gcc 2.95.2, everything comes out OK, but shared libraries seem to fail at install phase. The output indicates that they're non-existent. Second problem - VFS examples, audit and recycle. They build OK, but there are all sorts of undefined references at runtime. Could these two issues be due to the use of

NT ACL's
I've been trying to use the NT ACL's which have been added to Samba. While it's very nice to be able to view the settings, I've noticed that it accepts changes made from NT Explorer's permissions property page, but the changes are not actually made. Am I doing something wrong or is this a limitation of the current implementation of this feature? It would be extremely nice for

testing parallelism of does-response curves using nls()
Hi, I am trying to use F test or Chi-square test to test if 2 5-parameter (A, B, xmid, scal and H) logistic curves are parallel based on residual sum of squares. What's usually done is to first fit the 2 curves using a constraint (or global) model where all parameters are kept the same except for "xmid"; then fit 2 independent curves using unconstraint models where all 5 parameters

Problems with Samba 2.0.6 under Solaris 7
We've inadvertently discovered a bug in the client_name function when our dns was temporarily damaged. We have a "hosts allow" function that has IP addresses only to contrain mounts to within our network. When clients would attempt to connect, if their reverse IP lookup failed - in theory just to log the name of the connecting host, the originating IP address was being mangled and

zero variance in part of a glm (PR#11355)
In this real example (below), all four of the replicates in one treatment combination had zero failures, and this produced a very high standard error in the summary.lm. =20 Just adding one failure to one of the replicates produced a well-behaved standard error. =20 I don't know if this is a bug, but it is certainly hard for users to understand. =20 I would value your comments=20 =20 Thanks =20

Samba 2.0.6 Interfaces
We're had some recurring problems with nmbd's on Solaris 2.7 and Irix 6.5 failing to renew their WINS registrations in a timely manner causing the records to become tombstoned. While we've solved it by issuing "pkill" and "killall", respectively, of nmbd nightly from root's crontab, I wanted to alert the authors and other administrators to the problem so similar
