This is the first time that I have tried to update packages with a tinkered around with .Rprofile. I start R with R --vanilla and it does not load my .Rprofile, but when I issue the command update.packages() R downloads the packages as expected, but then seems to load .Rprofile before compiling the packages sources. I am was going to look at the as.yearmon function in the zoo package and write a as.day function to aggregate a time series of 96 observations per day into the mean for each day, but I don't know how to look at the code so that I can convert it into something I can use. On top of that I believe that it is probably an S3 method and I haven't quite gotten that far in my programming

I'm stuck, but am sure it can be done I just don't understand how. I have data in an irregular timeseries. I want to be able to use stl to visualise the data (see seasonal parts etc), so I need to change to regular series of class ts (I think). has anyone had problems with the upgrade to R 2.8 and chron date classes. I have a large zoo object that has a chron index, and it is taking 5x or so longer to do the same calculation as with 2.7 if it doesn't fail. I will provide anything necessary I am not entirely sure what ya'll would need if anything to try and reproduce the behavior. I am using the package StreamMetabolism. thanks

Hadley et al., I was using the cast function to reshape some data (aggregate a melted data frame) and I did not put in the fill and for the most part the values that came out were fine, but there were value great than an order of magnitude from the actual value.
