add text to a plot, create character labels
Hi,
I was trying to run the following, where the labels on the x axis are dates
and need to be converted to characters. It did not work. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks.

X-axis labels not displayed when changing ylim
Dear R users,
I am encountering a x axis labeling problem on quite basic plots...
I use the following code which displays the labels on the x-axis with a
45 degrees angle:
p <- plot(myobject1, type="b", col="red",cex=1, lwd=2, axes=FALSE,
ann=FALSE, ylim=c(0,70))
title(main="title", font.main=4)
axis(side=1, lab=F)

jpeg and margin text
Hi guys,
I use R 2.6.2 and Windows XP.
I’ve got the following question: I wrote a lot of text into the margin of a
plot. When I use the “jpeg”-function, only a little part of the margin text
is displayed in the final jpeg? Any ideas to change it?

standardize ggplot and lattice themes
Dear list,
I'm writing a long document (thesis) and as much as I would like to
use only ggplot2 for the graphics, some features are still a bit
undocumented so I often end up choosing either ggplot2, lattice, or
base plots (which i know better) depending on the particular graph to
produce. With the default settings, this does not make for a
consistent look I would like to see

Working up examples of barplots with customized marginal items
Hello, everybody:
I'm back to share a long piece of example code. Because I had trouble
understanding the role of par() and margins when customizing barplots,
I have struggled with this example. In case you are a student wanting
to place legends or textual markers in the outer regions of a barplot,
you might run these examples.
There are a few little things I don't quite understand.

adding custom axis to image.plot() and strange clipping behavior
Hi list,
I wanted to plot an image with a colorbar to the right of the plot, but set my own axis labels (text rather than numbers) to the image. I have previously accomplished this with two calls to image(), but the package 'fields' has a wrapper function, image.plot(), which does this task conveniently.
However, I could not add axes to the original image after a call to image.plot(); I

Extended attributes not working on mac
as i can see from the log files it is reading 60 bytes from the extended attributes but not from any other than DosStream.AFP_AfpInfo.
All of the .com.apple.* attributes, especially DosStream.com.apple.metadata:_kMDItemUserTags are missing when listing the directory.
And again - it tries to access a dotbar file which cannot exist with these settings.
BTW, accessing kMDItemFinderComment works

axTicks on a reverse ylog plot (PR#7973)
There is still issues with the reversed y-log scale plot:

# Test case B: grid does not have horizontal lines; par("yaxp") is
different
plot(1:100,log="y",ylim=c(100,10))

In the second test case, axTicks for the horizontal lines (in

Change margin size of complex barplot
Dear R-help members,
with the help of one of you the following R-Code was developed. No I have the (probably simple) problem that I want to increase font size of "text" and "ylab" names from 1 to 2. Unfortunately I'm not able to adjust the margin so, that the plot is appers complete (all names readable) on a 8:14 Inch scale plot.
Some times I get the error message that

Graph Script/X-axis label Problem
Hi, I created the script below to plot multiple graphs. It seems to work
pretty well (see BYX7) except when the max value for catch or TACC is very
small. In this case the x-axis labels are removed from the x-axis (see
BYX10). I can't figure out why given that y co-ordinate for the text
function is par("usr")[1] - 0. Shouldn't this mean that it is flush to the
x-axis? Can

calling a function with dynamically generated buttons
Hallo,
I'm dynamically generating buttons depending on the number of rows of
my dataframe. Every button is supposed to call a function which
generates a plot with the values of one of my dataframe rows.
My code looks like this:
base <- tktoplevel()
plotten <- function(mat, namen, titel) {
midpts <- barplot(height=mat, names.arg = namen, main =

losing x-label when exporting to PNG
I have a simple barplot that looks fine in the R
graphics device window. However when I export it to
png I am losing the x-label. It must be an obvious
problem but I cannot see it. Trying to resize the plot
does not seem to help. Code is below.
Any help gratefully received.

Aligning Diagonally Oriented Labels Under Bar Chart
I searched the forms (i.e., R Search)?and come up with the following suggested link:
I tried to implement what I believe was being implied by that URL and came up with the below:

??????? axes=FALSE, ann=FALSE,

Help page of colors() : add a new example ?
Dear all,
May I suggest to add an example in the help page of the colors() function ?
The following code could be useful to easily choose any color from colors() :

## Figure displaying all the 657 built-in color names of colors().
palette(colors())
tempo<-NULL

Plotting in the margin
Hi,
I would like to place a line (tilted at an angle) in the margin of an R
plot. Is there any way to place such an annotation outside the plotting
area?
As an alternative, being able to plot a rotated character (the pipe, |) in
the margin would be sufficient. The problem is that mtext doesn't work
with the srt option.
As a further alternative, if I could put a legend in the margin, I

help with plot layout
It takes a lot of sweat to generate a composite plot with R ... sigh.
I though I was almost done when I met the umpteenth hurdle. I cannot place a nice title on the 2nd plot (raw signal)
on the layout. I do not have control on where either the "main" option of "plot" function, or "title", place the text
string which keeps dysplaying chopped from above. I also tried

Content-Type: TEXT/plain; charset=us-ascii
Hello,
and a big thank you for providing R!
Please find attached a diff for coplot which you may want to consider
for the next release. The diff is against R 1.2.2. The reasons for this
patch are:
1. The boxes of coplot did not align very well with the panel graphs if
applied to a factor
2. Putting the

Hexbin margins
Hi All -
I'm having a layout problem with hexbin. The axis labels overlap with
the axis tick labels.
I've tried changing grid and trellis layout settings, as well as the
more obvious mar settings without luck.
Here's how to recreate the probem:
require(hexbin)
x <- abs(rnorm(500,500,500))
y <- jitter(x)
bin <- hexbin(x,y,)
srt=plot(bin,xlab="Average X Value",

Coloring leaves, twigs and labels in plot.dendrogram()
Core developers,
I couldn't find any simple way to send a vector of colors to apply to each
terminal in plot.dendrogram() or plot.hclust()---I asked R-help about it a
few weeks ago and didn't get any response---so I hacked that functionality
into the plot.dendrgram code (see below for hacked function plus
examples)....
Is there any chance this functionality could be added to the
