R2WinBUGS and R-2.10.0: The school example not running
Dear R users I have been encountering an error (in the Winbugs window: Blackbox - index out of range ..... ). So to me it seems R2WinBUGS is not linking up well with the new R version since the same model runs well under r-2.9.2. So is my assumption correct or am I doing something wrong. The data I used and the code are in the help of R2WinBUGS (?bugs). Regards, -- Luwis Diya, Leuven

Printing the function t.test() in R
Dear R Users, I have a question, how does one print an r function like t.test in R (to get the whole function and not just a summary of the environment)? For example if I type the following: > t.test function (x, ...) UseMethod("t.test") <environment: namespace:stats> > print(t.test) function (x, ...) UseMethod("t.test") <environment: namespace:stats> I

Cross classified or Multiple membership or Hierarchical (3 level ) logistic models using Umacs
Dear R users, I would like to fit cross classified or multiple membership logistic models or a 3 level hierarchical logistic model using the Umacs package. Can anyone advise me on how to proceed or better point me to examples of how its done. Help in Compliling user -defined functions in Rpart
I have been trying to write my own user defined function in Rpart.I imitated the anova splitting rule which is given as an example. In the work I am doing ,I am calculating the concentration index(ci) ,which is in between -1 and +1.So my deviance is given by abs(ci)*(1-abs(ci)).Now when I run rpart incorporating this user defined function i get the following error message: Error in

Problems trying to run R2jags on a Linux Cluster
Dear R users, I am having problems in trying to run R2jags on a Linux Cluster. When I tried to run the model given in the R2jags manual I get the following error error message: Error in FUN(X[[3L]], ...) : object 'J' not found Can any one help me with this problem? Looking to hear from you all. Regards, -- Luwis Diya, Leuven Biostatistics and Statistical Bioinformatics Centre

Exclude missing values on only 1 variable
Hello, I have many hundred variables in my longitudinal dataset and lots of missings. In order to plot data I need to remove missings. If I do > data <- na.omit(data) that will reduce my dataset to 2% of its original size ;) So I only need to listwise delete missings on 3 variables (the ones I am plotting). data$variable1 <-na.omit(data$variable1) does not work. Thank you

drawing a line that shifts from solid to broken
I am graphing longitudinal data from three time points. I'd like to draw a solid line from point 1 to point 2, and then a dashed line from point 2 to point 3. It works if I do it in two steps: > first.vector <- c(mean(year1$variable1), mean(year2$variable1)) > second.vector <- c(NA, mean(year2$variable1), mean(year3$variable1)) > plot(first.vector, type="b",

longitudinal study
Hello R user, I have a data set from a longitudinal study ( sample below) where subjects are followed over time. Second column (status) contains info about if subject is dead or still in the study and third column is time measured in the week. Here is what I need: if status is not dead or unknown take the last week, if status is dead or unknown I need to have corresponding week. Desired resulst:

some questions about longitudinal study with baseline
Hi all, I asked this before the holiday, didn't get any response. So would like to resend the message, hope to get any fresh attention. Since this is not purely lme technical question, so I also cc-ed R general mailing list, hope to get some suggestions from there as well. I asked some questions on how to analyze longitudinal study with only 2 time points (baseline and a follow-up)

xyplot: discrete points + continuous curve per panel
I have a number of x, y observations (Time, Conc) for a number of Subjects (with subject number Subj) and Doses. I can plot the individual points with xyplot fine: xyplot(Conc ~ Time | Subj, Groups=Dose, data=myData, panel = function(x,y) { panel.xyplot(x, y) panel.superpose(???) # Needs more here } ) I also like to plot on

state space model for poisson distribution
Hi Rers, I have a poission time series model with 5 parameters. I just wanted to remove two of the lag on response in the model and put it as a system model. I am not sure about the codes to combine these two on R. If anybody has any R example (code), please post it. My original model: log(Y(t))~constant+b1*Y(t-1)+b2*Y(t-2)+b3*(variable1)+b4*(variable2)+e I would like to construct a

Longitudinal study with three treatments
Hi, I am comparing three treatments. The data come from a longitudinal study, and for each treatment I have only 1 case, on which the observations across 20 years are made. My main aim is to compare the three treatments, but the effect of time is of interest as well. Which of the many R functions should I use for that purpose? I applied the aov function and received this:

Longitudinal categorical response data
Dear List,   I have some longitudinal data, each patient was followed at times 0, 12, 16, 24 weeks and measure severity of a illness (0-worse, 1-same, 2-better). So, longitudinal response is categorical.  I was wondering whether lmer in R can fit a model for this type of data. If so, how we code? Or any other function in R that can fit this type of longitudinal data? Any suggestion would be

Longitudinal Weights in PLM package
Hi all, I a semi-beginner with R and I am working with the plm package to examine a longitudinal dataset. Each individual in this dataset has a longitudinal weight for the probability that he or she remains in the sample. Unfortunately, I have not found an argument to use weights in the plm function? I tried ?weights=? like in standard lm or in nlme or lm4 but it does not work. I asked the

xyplot for longitudinal data
Dear R-help subscribers, I use xyplot to plot longitudinal data as follows: score<-runif(100,-4,5) group<-sample(1:4,100,rep=T) subject<-rep(1:25,4) age<-rep(runif(4,1,40),25) df<-data.frame(score,group,age,subject) xyplot(score~age|group, group=subject, panel=function(...){ panel.loess(...,lwd=4) panel.superpose(...)} ,data=df) this produced a plot with four panels one for each

Sample size of longitudinal and skewed data
Hi all: I have a question about the sample size calculation. It's a pilot study, which includes 2 groups(low,high),3 time point(3,6,9 monthes). Each person has 3 results which according to the 3 time points. So it's a longitudinal study. I want to calculate the minimum sample size from the pilot study, but can't find the solution since the data is highly skewed and it's a

Line plots in base graphics
Am I missing something obvious on how to draw multi-line plots in base graphics? In ggplot2, I can do: data(Oxboys, package = "nlme") library(ggplot2) qplot(age, height, data = Oxboys, geom = "line", group = Subject) But in base graphics, the best I can come up with is this: with(Oxboys, plot(age, height, type = "n")) lapply(split(Oxboys[c("age",

help with longitudinal data plot
Dear R Help, I am attempting to make a plot of longitudinal data, a sample data frame of which is shown below. I'd like to show all of the subjects in the same plot, with a set of connecting line segments for each subject. 'age' would be the x-axis and 'score' would be the y-axis. subject age score 1 10123 12 51.06 2 10123 14 50.00 3 10123 15 62.22 4
