Problem with X11 application and Nouveau driver
I have finally received and am configuring my new workstations eith the NVS510 graphics cards, and have run into rather a problem. The X server seems to be loading the NOUVEAU driver properly (based on the contents of Xorg.0.log), but I have one X11 application that doesn't work correctly; it runs as though XSynchronized is always True, even though it's explicitly set to False in the

GWD button drawing prob-- any Cairo pro have insights?
Since I first tried nVidia's AIGLX with Compiz I've been seeing some pretty
consistent drawing problems on GWD's minimize and maximize buttons on hover.
It looks like part of the fill is drawn with low alpha. I haven't been able to
duplicate it when using Xgl... Here's a quick vid of what I'm seeing:

Display list redraw incomplete
Since compiling R 2.5.0 from source on my Mac (PowerBook) I've noticed
some strange behavior when plotting. I'm not sure if it's a problem
with my setup/compilation because I feel like a problem as basic as
this one would have been reported already. I'm running R with X11 and
R was built with gcc 4.0.1.
Basically, I run
> plot(0, 0)
> dev.off()

Display list redraw incomplete
Hi,
I'm observing the following warning with R-2.10.0 on a machine I have remote access to. Like what happened to Roger ( http://www.mail-archive.com/r-devel at r-project.org/msg08669.html ), two extra instances of X11 are open after dev.off(). Although I'm reporting this on R-2.10.0, it's reproducible on R-devel r50541. Any thoughts about this?
Thanks a lot for any info,
b

ESS+R not closing gracefully
I am having trouble with ESS+R. I don't know if it is an ESS
problem or an R problem, so I'm posting to this mailing list in
the first instance.
I am using R 1.6.2, Windows XP (latest updates installed), XEmacs 21.4,
and ESS 5.1.21. I have experienced the same problem under Windows 2000 and
recent versions of Emacs and ESS (though my current Windows XP
installation is from scratch, and

X11 redraw events dropped? (PR#8250)
Full_Name: Keith Frost
Version: 2.1.0
OS: Debian Sarge
Submission from: (NULL) (66.162.141.10)
This has actually been a problem for some time in R under Linux. (I noticed
it under previous builds for Redhat 9 as well.) The graphics device windows
produced by the x11() function do not always get redrawn when they should,
sometimes leaving the device blank when there should be a graph on it.

How to use * and # as part of number indialcommand
Michel
Send me the same output for a dial string that only sends the *31*
Is this an ISDN line? What type of card/signalling/switchtype are you
using?
It looks as if the PSTN switch accepts the *31* and then hangs up so you
can make the NEXT call with the *31* feature enabled. If so I assume the
*31* feature will be enabled for the next call on the ENTIRE SPAN if it
is an ISDN trunk group.

[PATCH] button_layout support for gtk-window-decorator
I noticed there have been some older posts about a work in progress
patch which never made it to the ML due to some issues.
I am attaching three patches here in an effort to bring the
button_layout support into gtk-window-decorator which allows you to
define the titlebar button placements with a string (e.g.
"menu:minimize,maximize,close") in /apps/metacity/general/button_layout.

Display list redraw incomplete when exporting plots
I was just wondering if anyone knows what could be the problem with my
exporting of plots.
Below is the error messages I get when trying to export my plots (all error
messages at the same time).
I do get a file produced which works but I don't know why these messages
appear. Doesn't matter if it is a pdf or a png or any other format I export
to.
Also, when exporting to png I get

Performance problems? (kinda long)
Hello all! First, let me apologize if this is painfully obvious; I searched
the list archives a few times and poked around the 'net, to no avail...
I'm having a wee problem with Samba's performance (speed) on a Linux 2.1.132
server. Specifically, the server is working at about half the speed of an
NT machine. The Samba server (running Redhat 5.2 w/ kernel 2.1.132) is

tkcanvas/bitmap for Turtle World
To represent a turtle inside a canvas (tcltk package), I have a serie of
bitmaps
representing the turtle heading in different directions and I would like
to display the one that corresponds to the current direction of the turtle

I have created with Paint a bitmap representing the turtle in BMP format
and succeeded displaying it on canvas after converting it into XBM format

Caller ID on Snom 190?
Has anyone had success with the Snom 190 displaying caller ID name and
number on the Snom 190 on for an inbound call from *?
Right now our Snom's only show the caller id name, not number. I know
the number is transmitted from the Telco and received by * since the
number shows on the incoming call event at the * console.
We are not setting the caller id in the extensions.conf, simply passing

Howto Disable Direct draw wine 0.9
Hi,
Sorry for this newbie question.
I have a old piece of software called 'Titanic Explorer'. It makes heavy use
of QuickTime within the application's front-end.
The problem it all works great except that the screen doesn't redraw
correctly.
Looking at the application database, it seems that most versions of
QuickTime suffer from redraw problems and the workaround is to disable

Plots don't update with xlab, etc. What am I doing wrong.
Hi,
I've been struggling with this problem the last few days and finally
discovered it's happening at a very fundamental level. Going through
Stephen Turner's tutorial on ggplot2, I entered these base graphics
commands:
> with(diamonds, plot(carat,price))
> with(diamonds, plot(carat,price), xlab="Weight in Carats",
ylab="Price in USD",

set seed for random draws
Hello, all!
I need help on these two problems:
1) If I want to randomly draw numbers from standard normal (or other distributions) in loops e.g.:
ty=0; ks=0
for (i in 1:5) {
set.seed(14537+i)
k<-rnorm(1)
ks[i]<-.3*k+.9
if (ty==0) {
while ((ks<.2)||(ks>3)) {
#set.seed(13237+i*100)
k<-rnorm(1)

What is acceptable network latency forvoipconnection?
In the real world (or at least in my world) we use undersubscribed
internet connections that come with a service level agreement (SLA) that
guarantees that the jitter, delay, and packet loss with be within
defined parameters in the service agreement.
With most DSL and Cable you will not get a SLA, with the cheapest T1s
you might get one, but the only penalty to the ISP if they do not meet
is a
