iCal / Authentication / Site5 ?
So, I''m working on adding iCal support to my app. Since I want to restrict users to their own calendars, form-based authentication isn''t going to work, so I''m using the Basic HTTP Authorization from this page - http://blogs.23.nu/c0re/stories/7409/ Everything works fine in my dev machine, but on the server (Site5), I get the login prompt ad infinitum. Has anyone run

ActiveRecord setting IDs on auto increment fields
Hi All, I''ve tried to do my searches, but can''t find reference to this anywhere - My question is about ActiveRecord inserts and IDs. I have a join table that both the models of the source tables join with "has_and_belongs_to_many". It seems like ActiveRecord is setting the "id" field for the join table- This should be an auto_increment and

Site5 Hosting: Defautl Root Directory for site
Just signed up for hosting with Site5. So far the service has been great, but one question I had couldn''t be answered by the tech support. I need to change the default root directory of my site from public_html to a rails directory (i.e. foo/app/public). The tech support suggested mod_rewrite. Any other suggestions on ways to accomplish this? Thanks, Nathan -------------- next

Install to Site5
is there any way to install a RoR application to Site5 (or any other host for that matter) that doesn''t require shell access. It would be nice, for simplicity sake, to be able to upload an application edit a .htaccess (or something) and have the application just run. [ it doesn''t really matter if there is no way to do this. its just that I''m trying to test my apps on a

Migration db_schema_import always fails.
I have not been able to get DB migrations to work at all in Rails 1.0 for me. On multiple platforms I continually get the same errors. It took me awhile to figure out some initial things, such as Migrations don''t seem to support Enum column types, and doesn''t really support Foreign key relationships (the constraints at least). After changing my DB schema to jive more with the

OO model style: inheritance
Hi everybody I am totally new to rails and I am trying to start a tiny project to get familiar with rails. But I already got my first problem and I would be happy if somebody could point me in the best and cleanest direction. I am trying to develop a small gallery app. Since I would like to add more features in future I am trying to design a clean OO architecture of my models: The base object

Best Forum? Was: Migration doesn''t seem to preserve create_table options in schema

Showcase On Rails CMS v0.1
I built out a simple CMS for websites that rely heavily on portfolios. This covers graphic and web designers in particular, but also other people with stuff to show off. It''s really easy to customize progressively, so that some people will only modify CSS, but others will dig deeper into Javascript behaviors and the Rails view code. Problem with db_schema_import and MySQL timestamp!
Hi, This post concerns a SQL error while I try to import a schema into MySQL with timestamp dates. To reproduce try these commands: mickey@bunny:~/dev/rails/timeonrails$ rake db_schema_dump (in /home/mickey/dev/rails/timeonrails) mickey@bunny:~/dev/rails/timeonrails$ cat db/schema.rb # This file is autogenerated. Instead of editing this file, please use the # migrations feature of ActiveRecord

migrations :timestamp becomes :datetime in mySql
For some reason whenever I try and create a timestamp column with migrations and mysql I get a datetime column instead. That''s kind of annoying because I want the column to update every time the row gets changed. Is this a bug, or is there something I can do about it? (Obviously I can manually change my mysql table, but that kind of defeats the point of migrations!) In my migration

Problems migrating from Postgres to MySQL
Hello everyone, I''m trying to migrate a working app from Postgres to MySQL, and I''m trying to use a migration to get it done rather than alter all my database table creation scripts to MySQL syntax. I''ve done loads of work with Postgres, but am a real newbie with MySQL... I did a ''rake db_schema_dump'' from my Postgres app, and got a nice looking

rake db_schema_import on vanilla schema.rb
Hi all, I dumped my schema from SQLServer 2000 without any problems. I then tried to "rake db_schema_import" on MySQL 4. To do this i changed my database.yml settings to use the mysql adapter (as it was set to use sqlsever before) and attempted the import. I haven''t changed a thing in the schema.rb script and, even though I do have generated a migration, I think I

acts_as ... hourly_list?
Hi, My question is a bit of wonder and a bit of enlightment. I have two models, Channel and ChannelItem, the second is a list of Events, ordered by position (because I''m using acts_as_list). Later I use a method in Channel to recalculate the hour when that show come online, based on the duration of it and doing math based on the previous one duration and start time, starting from

Dealing with schema in RODBC
Is there a way to get a table in a certain schema? The Oracle database I am using has a table by the same name in two different schemas. This creates problems in sqlUpdate because to sqlUpdate there are duplicate columns. The following is part of the output of sqlColumns: sqlColumns(eids, "TEST_ARTCL_INST")[,1:4] TABLE_CAT TABLE_SCHEM TABLE_NAME COLUMN_NAME 1

How to interpret an ANOVA result?
Hello all, here's a real-world example: I'm measuring a quantity (d) at five sites (site1 thru site5) on a silicon wafer. There is a clear site-dependence of the measured value. To find out if this is a measurement artifact I measured the wafer four times: twice in the normal position (posN), and twice rotated by 180 degrees (posR). My data looks like this (full, self-contained code at

Converting time retrieved from MySQL
I''m having a problem converting a date retrieved from my MySQL database and I''m hoping someone can help. MySQL stores the date/time as this: 2005-03-08 17:00:34.0 and according to my Pickaxe book Ruby stores times as "the number of seconds and microseconds since [...] January 1, 1970". All well and good. Unfortunately, RoR is converting my date to this:
