add names to data frame
Hi,
I have a vector V of values I used to create a distance matrix using dist()
function with diag=TRUE and upper=TRUE parameters.
I would like to assign names in another vector on top of each column instead
of 1 2 3 4 ...
How can we do that ? is the distance matrix generated a data frame or a
matrix ?

lme fitted correlation of random effects: where is it?
The print method for lme *prints out* the fitted correlation matrix for
the random effects. Is there any way to get these values as an object in
R? I have examined the components of the lme object (called "junk" in the
example below) and the components of summary(junk) without finding these
numbers.
(How I did this: I dumped the entire lme object to a text file and then

S3 lookup rules changed in R 3.6.1
tl;dr: S3 lookup no longer works in custom non-namespace environments as of
R 3.6.1. Is this a bug?
I am implementing S3 dispatch for generic methods in environments that are
not
packages. I am trying to emulate the R package namespace mechanism by
having a
?namespace? environment that defines generics and methods, but only exposes
the
generics themselves, not the methods.
To make S3 lookup work

One fix might be to replace the line

creating a matrix subset based on a threshold cutoff
Hi,
I have a table of x rows and y columns. The table is huge and so i'd like
to create a subset of the data containing rows where any of the y values are
below a threshold, say 1e-4. Is there a simple way of doing this in R?
thanks

methods() not listing some S3 plot methods...?
Dear List,
This may be related to this email thread initiated by Ben Bolker last
month: https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2011-July/061630.html
In answering this Question on StackOverflow
http://stackoverflow.com/q/7195628/429846 I noticed that `methods()` was
not listing some S3 methods for `plot()` provided by the mgcv package.
At the time I wanted to check the development version of R as

"non-visible" functions in return to methods()
Please point me to the documentation explaining why some of the functions
returned
by calling methods() are marked as "non-visible" and whether there is indeed
no way of
viewing the R code of such functions

I want to read in an S-PLUS data dump and I used

I have also tried read.S() and read.dta() with the same result. I cannot find

xtable.by
Hi all,
I have a series of measurements made over different types of road surfaces
and capacity that I want to summarize in tables via LaTeX. Ideally I'd like
a table similar to this (
http://www.andy-roberts.net/misc/latex/tutorial4/multirow.png ) with mean/SD
of the measurement broken down by road type (both surface and capacity).
Ideally it would be extensible so that when I add layers

Accessing the formals() of a non-exported method without :::?
Dear List,
I'm in the process of making tweaks to my various R packages following
changes in r-devel for package checks. I'm wondering about the one use
of ::: in one of my packages. I am arranging for a call to a
non-exported S3 method via do.call. For this I need the arguments of
the function and hence I was doing
Args <- head(formals(analogue:::wa.default), -1)
