axis colors in pairs plot
The following command produces red axis line in a pairs
plot:
pairs(iris[1:4], main = "Anderson's Iris Data -- 3 species",
pch = "+", col = c("red", "green3", "blue")[unclass(iris$Species)])
Trying to fool pairs in the following way produces the
same plot as above:
pairs(iris[1:4], main = "Anderson's Iris Data -- 3

pairs() Legend
Hi,
Is it possible to create a legend in a pairs() plot?
For example, suppose I have the following R codes:
data(iris)
pairs(iris[1:4], main = "Anderson's Iris Data -- 3 species",
pch = 21, bg = c("red", "green3", "blue")[codes(iris$Species)])
How can I created a legend that shows which colour represents to which
Iris species?
Thanks,

Different behavior of mtext
Dear R Users,
I am quite surprised to see that mtext gives different results when it
is used with 'pairs' and with "plot'. In the two following codes, it
seems that the 'at' argument in mtext doesn't consider the same unit system.
I would appreciate your comments on this issue.

display p-values and significance levels
Hi there,
I got a piece of code for the Iris data which allows to display correlation
coefficients for each Iris species in the lower panel (color coded). I would
now like to add e.g. a "*" to show the significance of each correlation next
to the correlation coefficient.
Furthermore I would like to make a t.test between the species "setosa" and
"versicolor" for

specifying ranges in scatter plot
Hi, there:
Does anyone know how to specify the ranges in the axises when I make
scatter plots using pairs()? In the general plot function, I can use
xlim and ylim option. But how can I do this if I use pairs()?
Thanks.

Pairs with different colours
Does anybody know how to make pairs graphics with dots of different colours depending on the value of a categorical variable ?
Thanks,

Using grid graphics (hexbin) in pairs() plot problem
Hi,
I am trying to create a plot with pairs()
using a gplot.hexbin() for each pair.
For pairs I can provide a custom upperPanel function:
pairs(iris[1:4], panel=mypanel)
and mypanel() calls plot.hexbin():
library(hexbin) # Bioconductor
mypanel <- function(x, ...){
hb <- hexbin(x)
plot(hb)
}
The problem is that gplot.hexbin() is based
on the

pairs correlations colors
I have the following problem.
I want to use pairs function and get a matrix of scatterplots with the
correlations in the upper panel and the ordinary scatterplots in the
lower panel.
Moreover, I want to have points colored in five differet ways in the
lower panel, because I have five subgroups.
In order to do that I tried to combine examples on pairs function help.
I got a colored matrix

Fisher's method in discriminant analysis
Hi,
I'm using mda library to solve a discriminant
analysis. I get results, but the thing is that I want
to use Fisher's method to obtain the classification
functions and I'm lost in what I should do: libraries
to use, ... Can anybody give me a clue??
Thanks.

Help with pair plot
Hi,
I'm trying to create a plot using pair.
Currently I'm doing the following
pairs(~mpg + hp + wt , data=cars, labels = c("Miles per
Gallon","Horsepower","Weight"),pch = c(24,25)[unclass(cars$tr + 1)],
bg = c("red", "green3")[unclass(cars$tr + 1)],panel=panel.smooth)
for the attached dataset. However,instead of using panel.smooth I

how can I get a layout like in pairs()?
dear R gurus,
I repeatedly run into this problem, maybe there's an easy way to solve it.
I want a composite plot with multiple graphs that share the same axis,
similar way as done by the pairs() (eg. like this here
http://www.r-project.org/screenshots/iris-pairs.jpg). all plot panels
shall have the same size, but there need to be extra space at the
outside of the whole graphic to label the

Scatterplot - symbols coded by factor
Hi - I would like to create a scatterplot with the symbols coded by a factor in each record. Is their a better way than what I have used below? I attempted to use the plot.factor, but cannot force it to make a scatterplot instead of boxplots. I have considerd making a function with a 'for' statement for each level of the factor. Is there a better way for when I am dealing with more

Im trying to save a plot both to a pdf and as just a picture but without

How to overlap two density plots?
Hi,
How can I overlap two density plots?
A <- c(8,10,10,11,11,11,12,12,12,12,11,11,11,10,10,7)
B <- c(11,13,13,14,14,14,15,15,15,15,14,14,14,13,13,10)
plot(density(A))
plot(density(B))
Regards,
Emre
P.S. There's a overlap.density function in package DAAG
Is there another way to do this?

Outer margin (oma) settings for pairs()
I propose the following small changes to pairs.default.
The point is to allow control of the outer margin settings,
so that there is for example room for legends.
[Note also the issue re the setting of par()$usr on exit]

(1) Replace
function (x, labels, panel = points, main = NULL, font.main =
par("font.main"),

Small change to plot.xy
Hi everyone,
Is there any reason why we should not automatically coerce a factor
supplied as an argument to col in a plotting function? The following
modification (to R-1.6.1) seems pretty harmless

bg = NA, cex = 1, ...)

pairs(oma) warnings (PR#8252)
Unlike R 2.1.1, version 2.2.0 generates warnings when an 'oma' argument as
passed to pairs():
A <- rnorm(100)
B <- rnorm(100)
pairs(cbind(A,B)) # no warning
pairs(cbind(A,B), oma=c(6,8,10,12)) # warnings in R 2.2.0
I think pairs() should draw the plot quietly, without warnings. Can't see
anything in the documentation indicating that an
