multinom(nnet) analogy for biglm package?
I would like to perform a multinomial logistic regression on a large data set, but do not know how. I've only thought of a few possibilities and write to seek advice and guidance on them or deepening or expanding my search. On smaller data sets, I have successfully loaded the data and issued commands such as: length(levels(factor(data$response))) [1] 6 # implies polychotomy library(nnet)

Hi there, Am try to find tree diameter increment in a hierarchical data with tree diameter measurements, date of measurements, in plots that are located in different region. How do I do it? am very new to R. Thanks for you help. bubble.plot() - standardize size of unit circle
Hello, I wrote a wrapper for symbols() that produces a bivariate bubble plot, for use when plot(x,y) hides multiple occurrences of the same x,y combination (e.g. if x,y are integers). Circle area ~ counts per bin, and circle size is controlled by 'scale'. Question: how can I automatically make the smallest circle the same size as a standard plot character, rather than having to

Adding percentage to Pie Charts (was (no subject))
Have you read the books by Cleveland? His experiments show that most people do better estimating things and comparing things on a linear scale rather than looking at angles and areas (also see http://biostat.mc.vanderbilt.edu/twiki/pub/Main/StatGraphCourse/graphsco urse.pdf) With a dot chart you can set the axis to go from 0 to the total of all groups (see the example I sent before, it could

Subject: Re: how to include bar values in a barplot?
Greg, I'm going to join issue with your here! Not that I'll go near advocating "Excel-style" graphics (abominable, and the Patrick Burns URL which you cite is remarkable in its restraint). Also, I'm aware that this is potential flame-war territory -- again, I want to avoid that too. However, this is the second time you have intervened on this theme (previously Mon 6

Why does ActiveRecord allow perception of success when updating an ID, however it doesn't really work(i.e. no change in database)?
Hi, Why does ActiveRecord allow perception of success when updating an ID, however it doesn''t really work(i.e. no change in database)? Here''s an example. The update of "id" versus update of a non-existent attribute. ?> ai = AccountItem.find(:first) => #<AccountItem id: 1, account_id: 1, date: "2009-01-11", amount:

Colours for 3-way probabilities
Are there any R functions for creating palettes for three-way data? For example, election maps for three parties where pure red, blue, and green show 100% for the Red, Blue, and Green parties respectively, magenta shows a 50-50 Red-Blue split with 0 for the Greens, cyan a 50-50 Blue/Green split with no Red votes and so on, with grey, black or white at a 1/3,1/3,1/3 split vote. I've spent a

making a plot in xyplot
Hello, I am a newbie to the lattice package in R, and I'm trying to make a plot using the xyplot function. I have repeated measures data (2 conditions) for two different groups of subjects (teens and adults). So far, I've made a basic graph using xyplot(y ~x, group=subnum, data=mydata, type="b"). Now I would like to make all the teens' lines one color and the adults'

formula version of sunflowerplot() fails when axis label specified
Hello, R-help, does anybody have already a work-around for the problem that the formula version of sunflowerplot() throws an error when provided with a value for xlab (or ylab) different from NULL: > sunflowerplot( Sepal.Length ~ Sepal.Width, data = iris, xlab = "A") Error in model.frame.default(formula = Sepal.Length ~ Sepal.Width, data = iris, : variable lengths differ

How to retrieve results of most recent command?
In R, is there an automatic variable that stores the results of the most recent command or commands? (I am thinking of a behavior like Mathematica's % result-history substitution syntax.) (I am using R 2.3.1 on Linux and R 2.3.1 on Windows XP.) This is a pretty basic question, so I tried to do an extensive version of the recommended pre-posting homework. >

Suggested color schemes for points, not regions?
I have seen a couple of posts about color schemes like those at the ColorBrewer site. Most recently: http://geography.uoregon.edu/datagraphics/color_scales.htm These color schemes can work very well for regions (bars, polygons, images, etc.) but are not very suitable for points and/or lines. Is anyone aware of research/suggestions for a color scheme to use for scatter plots? I've looked at

Using sunflowerplot to add points in a xyplot panel
Hi, I use panel.points to add points to a xyplot graphic. But I like to use the sunflowerplot to plot my points because this is very superimposed. It is possible to use this? I try but it dont work directly. It may be need to put this function inside a panel.??? Thanks Ronaldo -- Where there's a will, there's a relative. -- > Prof. Ronaldo Reis J?nior | .''`.

plot two time series with different length and different starting point in one figure.
Hello, I do have two different time series A and B, they are different in length and starting point. A starts in Jan, 2012 and ends in Dec, 2012 and B starts in March, 2012 and ends in Nov, 2012. How can I plot those two series A and B in the same plot? I.E., from Jan. 2012 - Feb, 2012, it would have one data point from A and from Mar, 2012-Nov, 2012, it would have two data points from A and B,

Color perception during encoding
Hello, I'm sorry if this mail is somehow inappropriate but I couldn't find another feedback address on the Ogg Theora site. What I want to tell the people who are making a GUI (Graphical User Interface) for a Theora encoder is. If you intend to add a color adjuster to your encoder program, make the GUI a boring NEUTRAL GRAY! The reason is that human color perception of one part of

interrupted Y axis
I did not find an answer to my question after a quick search using the R search engine so thought I'd ask away: Does any know if there's a function exists to create an interrupted Y axis? What I mean by interrupted Y axis is that part of the Y axis has been removed or excised to permit one to see parts of the data in more detail. Perhaps an example will make this clear. Please go to

Sunflower plot error; how to deal with NA
I suspect the problem stems from the fact that there are a couple of NA values. > sunflowerplot(lastoto, maxear) Error in rep.int(i.multi, number[number > 1]) : invalid number of copies in rep.int() So I used the subset command to get rid of the cases with NA hell<-subset(ChinOtoMayB,is.na(lastoto)==FALSE) Then it worked perfectly sunflowerplot(hell$lastoto, hell$maxear) Is

number plot symbol in scatterplot?
If I make a scatterplot and several (e.g. 5) points lie on top of each other at a given x,y location I would like the plot symbol to be the number of superimposed points (e.g. "5"). Could someone please tell me how to do this in R? Thanks! Bill Simpson

Colours for sunflowerplot
Dear fellow R users, I would like to draw a "sunflowerplot" because I have data (decade by month) that plots multiple times on the same x-y co-ordinates. Further I would like to colour each of the points/sunflower leaves on the plot according to the group they belong to (i.e. which type of event each represents within that decade and month). I thought that this would be relatively
