Mixed models
Hello Folks, I'm after some help regarding mixed models. Basically I have sampled a number of different animals at 10 independent sites and am trying to create a mixed model to account for the variation between sites my current model looks like this: mm<-glmm.admb(Hep~Sex+Mass, random=~Mouse, group=Location, data=alan, family="binomial", link="logit") I numbered each

Optimization problem
Hello Folks, Very new to R so bear with me, running 5.2 on XP. Trying to do a zero-inflated negative binomial regression on placental scar data as dependent. Lactation, location, number of tick larvae present and mass of mouse are independents. Dataframe and attributes below: Location Lac Scars Lar Mass Lacfac 1 Tullychurry 0 0 15 13.87 0 2 Somerset 0 0 0

Newbie
Hello, I'm a bit new to the world of R so forgive my ignorance. I'm trying to do a zero-inflated negative binomial regression and have received an error message and i'm not sure what it means. I'm running R 2.5.1 on XP. I have just tried a really simple version of the model to see if it would run before I put all the variables in. I have attached all the variables to the

Changing fonts of axis labels in Histogram() function
Dear All I am using the histogram() function to plot two subsets from my data on the same output display, i.e. there are two histogram plots My code is: histogram( ~ Age | Date, layout = c(1, 2), xlab = "Age (years)", strip = FALSE, strip.left = TRUE, col = "black", border = "white", cex.axis = 1.1, family = "serif", cex.lab =

Zicounts package
Dear R users, I have been using the zicounts package (verson 1.1.4) in R (version 2.4.1). I have been fitting zero inflated Poisson regressions to model the number of trips made by a household. Whilst I can get the best fit parameter set from zicounts, I can't get the package to return the fitted values for the model. I have attempted to calculate the fitted values from the optimal

Speeding up lots of calls to GLM
Dear useRs, First off, sorry about the long post. Figured it's better to give context to get good answers (I hope!). Some time ago I wrote an R function that will get all pairwise interactions of variables in a data frame. This worked fine at the time, but now a colleague would like me to do this with a much larger dataset. They don't know how many variables they are going to have in the

virt-v2v trouble converting Xen Centos 5.X to KVM Centos 6.3 or Fedora 17
Hi! I'm trying to convert some Xen guests running Centos 5.8 to KVM on Centos 6.3. Hopefully this is the right place to ask this question, if not, let me know and I'll go there instead! :) My setup: Centos 5.8 Host running Xen with a Centos 5.8 guest, and I want to transfer this guest to a different Centos 6.3 host running KVM. I am able to tweak the target server all I want, but the

help with zicounts
Dear UseRs: I have simulated data from a zero-inflated Poisson model, and would like to use a package like zicounts to test my code of fitting the model. My question is: can I use zicounts directly with the following simulated data? Create a sample of n=1000 observations from a ZIP model with no intercept and a single covariate x_{i} which is N(0,1). The logit part is logit(p_{i})=x_{i}*beta

zeroinfl() or zicounts() error
I'm trying to fit a zero-inflated poisson model using zeroinfl() from the pscl library. It works fine for most models I try, but when I include either of 2 covariates, I get an error. When I include "PopulationDensity", I get this error: Error in solve.default (as.matrix(fit$hessian)) : system is computationally singular: reciprocal condition number = 1.91306e-34 When I

Problems with custom plugin
Hi everybody, I wrote a plugin for Dovecot 2.1.something which was based on the information found at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Design/Storage/Plugins and by studying the mail_log plugin. My plugin can be found here: https://github.com/dim-0/dovecot-mbc It takes the notify plugin's information, that a new mailbox has been created (or an old one been renamed) in order to trigger a custom script

Error message when using zero-inflated count regression model in package zicounts
I have data on number of vines per tree for ~550 trees. Over half of the trees did not have any vines and the data is fairly skewed (median = 0, mean = 1.158, 3rd qu. = 1.000). I am attempting to investigate whether plot location (four sites), species (I'm using only the four most common species), or tree dbh has a significant influence on the number of vines per tree. When I

Boxplot Fill Pattern
Hello R Help! I would like to make a legible boxplot of tree growth rates for each of seven tree species at each of seven different sites. It's a lot of data to put on one figure, I know. I made a beautiful, interpretable figure using color, but my target journal can't deal with color figures. I can use seven shades of grey to fill the boxes, but the figure then becomes uninterpretable -

Regular Crashes - Partially Solved
Thanks Paradise, this seems to have worked a treat!!! I commented out the: exten => 110,hint,SIP/110 lines which were in extensions_additional.conf for each sip extension I had. This seems to have stopped the crashes which were previously 3-5 times a day, now: System uptime: 1 day, 18 hours, 10 minutes, 3 seconds Interestingly it had the knock on effect of fixing another problem I had

Summary: GLMMs: Negative Binomial family in R
Here is a summary of responses to my original email (see my query at the bottom). Thank you to Achim Zeileis , Anders Nielsen, Pierre Kleiber and Dave Fournier who all helped out with advice. I hope that their responses will help some of you too. ***************************************** Check out glm.nb() from package MASS fits negative binomial GLMs.

Buffer overrun using W2k.
We recently upgraded our NT4 Domain to Win2k. We use Samba 2.0.7 running on Solaris 2.6 servers. We are getting buffer overuns in the log files when running 'domain_client_validate' which appears to be due to extensive group membership (SID History is not being used). Are there any patches/fixes available to get round this problem? Thankyou in anticipation. Regards, Rich Sprigg

We have Novell thats used or all users, OpenLDAP thats used for all mail accounts and some NT accounts that are used for things like

Package portability issues
We have some new Solaris boxes (both Sparc and amd64), and as they are not yet in production use I borrowed some time on them to run tests over CRAN packages, using the Solaris make and Sun Studio compilers. The results were quite depressing. Sun Studio 12 compilers are also available for Linux, and there the problems are worse (for C++ code). Line endings ============ We checked in R CMD
