colored nodes in dendrogram
Dear list, is there a way how to add information to internal nodes (branching points) in dendrogram created via plot.agnes function (package cluster)? I wish to place colored circles on the nodes, but I don't know how to proceed... I'll be grateful for any suggestion Ond?ej -- Ond?ej Mikula Institute of Animal Physiology and Genetics Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic Veveri 97,

How can i do the same thing in the China map?
The "maps" package has a function called "match.map", which is for map coloring . Its example is followed: # filled map showing Republican vote in 1900 # (figure 6 in the reference) data(state, package = "datasets") data(votes.repub) state.to.map <- match.map("state", state.name) x <- votes.repub[state.to.map, "1900"] gray.colors <-

counties in different colours using map()
Hi, I would like to plot a map of US counties using different colors. map() seems to be the function to use, e.g. library(maps); map('usa'); map('county', 'colorado', add=T,fill = T, col=c(1:5)) plots Colorado counties using colours 1 to 5. However, I want each color to represent a certain value - a value to be picked from a data frame. This code should show a

inches to centimeters in Graph settings
Hi R users, I made a few research on how to convert inches into centimeters for graphics settings (especially width and height of the graphic device). Apart from the function layout() wich can be settled in centimeters using lcm(), I found that writing a function that convert centimeters into inches (i.e. x/2.54) was probably the best answer. Is there somewhere any parameter that could help

Import range of cells from Excel
Dear all, I would like to import a range of cells (e.g. F10:K234) from an Excel worksheet to R. I have looked for documentation on RODBC and RDCOMClient but I was not able to find enough information to solve my problem and all the examples I have seen were dealing with an entire worksheet, not a range of cells. Recursive partitioning with multicollinear variables
Dear all, I would like to perform a regression tree analysis on a dataset with multicollinear variables (as climate variables often are). The questions that I am asking are: 1- Is there any particular statistical problem in using multicollinear variables in a regression tree? 2- Multicollinear variables should appear as alternate splits. Would it be more accurate to present these alternate

Regression model type II
I am trying to fit regression models type II with R, but it seems to me that most (all) of the linear model functions are for type I regressions. Does anyone knows whether type II regressions functions exist in R. coloring agnes plots
Hi all, I am creating dendrograms using agnes and was wondering if it is possible to add color to the leaves (and just the leaves). For example, in the documentation, they have an example using the "votes.repub" data set. If I wanted to make the word "Washington" green (and only Washington), is it possible and if so how? I can apply "summary" to the object

nlme : convergence problem and other errors
Dear R-user, I am trying to use the R "nlme" function to fit a non linear mixed effects model. The model I wand to fit is an individual somatic growth model with 4 parameters. For all parameters both fixed and random effects have to be estimated, as well as their covariance matrix (see the formula bellow). The data are simulated with the same growth model as in the nlme, with know

Cannot build cluster_1.9,6 under R 2.0.0 beta Sep 21
Doing the normal build process [1] for a first time with a R 2.0.0 snapshot -- the Sep 21 version I uploaded to Debian's 'experimental' section two days ago, ended in failure. The package in question is cluster 1.9.6 which should be 2.0.0-ready. coding rules
Dear all, I am organizing a set of specific R code as package (to ease the documentation and deployment of it to users). Before doing so, I would like to know if there are written coding rules for R (with functions, objects naming convention for example). S4 objects with list of objects as slots: how to subset?

Problem running stepAIC within a function.
Hi I need to a function that automatically fits a regression to data, using the stepAIC. I've ran the code manually and it works fine. However, when I run the function on the same data, the following error occurs: Problem in regimp(fullsim = simt, fullsim1 = simt1,..: Length of (weights) (variable 4) is 4271 != length of others (4278) I got the function to output the length of the dataset

High volume plot using log(local density)
Hi, I am using the densCols to draw a high volume scatter plot. Instead of using the default local density, I would like to take log of the local density and then map them to the colors. I could not figure out how to do that. For example: plot(x,y,col=densCols(x,y,"log")) ? Any help would be appreciated! Jiaxiu [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Arimax with intervention dummy and multiple covariates
Hi I'm trying to measure the effect of a policy intervention (Box and Tiao, 1975). This query has to do with the coding of the model rather than with the particulars of my dataset, so I'm not providing the actual dataset (or a simulated one) in this case, apart from some general description. The time series are of length n=34 (annual observations between 1977 and 2010). The policy

Likelihood between observed and predicted response
Hi, I've two fitted models, one binomial model with presence-absence data that predicts probability of presence and one gaussian model (normal or log-normal abundances). I would like to evaluate these models not on their capability of adjustment but on their capability of prediction by calculating the (log)likelihood between predicted and observed values for each type of model. I found
