Member.buddies.sort >> undefined method `<=>''
Hi all I have a model Member that has a habtm relationship to buddies (also members). Now I wanted to sort them using sort, but this ends in an error "undefined method <=>"! Where''s the problem here? Sorry, I''m still beginning to learn Ruby. ;-) Thanks Josh -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Bug with Postgres and/or HABTM?
Hello list, I think I''ve found a bug in the way Rails is talking to my Postgres DB when recording HABTM data. My join_table looks like this: id serial primary key, tablea_id integer references tablea(id), tableb_id integer references tableb(id), other_attributes... When Rails writes to join_table, I''d expect it to do something like: INSERT INTO join_table (tablea_id,

belongs_to with has_and_belongs_to_many
I''m having a problem with belongs_to and has_and_belongs_to_many. Here''s a brief summary of the models involved: class Member < ActiveRecord::Base set_primary_key ''member_id'' has_and_belongs_to_many :projects, :join_table => ''projects__members'' has_many :projects, :foreign_key => ''created_by'' end class

Help with nested HABTM relationship
Hi, I am trying to perform a query with ActiveRecord that I want to put into a Rails application later. For now I just wrote it within a plain old Ruby script for easier testing. I am working with an existing database so I had to map some foreign keys myself. As you can see from the models below, the database has a structure of Prospectlists <=habtm=> Contacts <=habtm=> Accounts

Multiple HABTM relationships with self ???
I need to have a table related to itself via a join table. Will HABTM support this? That is: class Recipe < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :recipes, :join_table => "recipes_recipes" end More importantly -- how does RoR support MULTIPLE self-joins? I.e., to relate the table to itself via multiple join tables. SFAIK, HABTM won''t support multiple

HABTM: two habtm''s between the same two tables
Imagine I want to track people, and the clubs that they belong to. table people with columns person_id, person_name table clubs with columns club_id, club_name And I have the association table: table clubs_people with columns person_id, club_id Now I know how to do this habtm between the two, in order to associate people with clubs that they belong to. However my application also needs a

extra attributes in habtm
Hi, Posting here since issue tracking isn''t the best place to discuss. I can understand habtm is moving towards deprecating support for extra attributes in join_table, and to use :through for those cases instead. To clarify, patch<http://dev.rubyonrails.org/attachment/ticket/5216/habtm_join_table_test.patch1.diff>for #5216 <http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/5216>

Bi-directional self-referential HABTM
Hi, I''m having a little trouble figuring out how to make a self- referential HABTM bi-directional. I have a Employee class. Each employee can have a couple of bosses, who are also employees. The employee class has the following HABTM: has_and_belongs_to_many :bosses, :class_name => "Employee", :join_table => "bosses_courses", :association_foreign_key =>

habtm does not work with multiple tables
as i''ve read somewhere. this could be fixed easily. all the rails devs ( or whoever is responsible for the query building and executing part) have to do is to use the full qualifier in the sql statements (e. g. DB_Name.Tablename.Row). to solve that problem in the meanwhile one should define the :join_table in the habtm association with the full qualifier. -- Posted via

2 belongs_to to the same parent table
Hello! I have 2 table: users and buddies User: id, name, ... Buddy: id, user_id, user_buddy_id, ... So if you have 2 users 1,jack and 2,fred and fred is a buddy of jack, there is a Buddy object: id=1, user_id=1, user_buddy_id=2 I can declare only one belongs_to in Buddy and one has_many in User. And there is conflict if I had the second one (the first one is discarded) class User has_many

habtm and insert_sql
Briefly, I want to create an :insert_sql attribute for a has_and_belongs_to_many relationship, and then add items to that relationship using push_with_attributes. Is that possible? Less briefly: I have a legacy postgresql database where one of the join tables has an ID column, so I had to set up the association with a custom :finder_sql attribute, as follows: class Topic <

No-brainer HABTM vs. select input question
Pardon my newbness. I''m trying to create, populate, and save an object with an HABTM mapping. That''s not working too well so far ;) Assuming I have the mapping correct (HA!) and the db set up properly, how do I create the select and options? I guess mostly I want to know what I''m supposed to name it. I have a FilingEvent class - HABTM State (both models have the
