64 bit use of odbcConnectExcel
Hi All,
I'm using R 2.11.1 on 64 bit windows XP. The little function I wrote below
I use often to import the first 1001 lines in an excel sheet to R. This
works fine on the 32 bit version of R but fails on the 64 bit [both on the
same machine, using the same function, importing the same .xls file]. The
message from 64 bit R is:
Error in sqlTables(channel1) :

Read Particular Cells within Excel
Hello all,
I have a business user who generates monthly reports in MS Excel in a particular
format. The data I need is present in different portions of this excel file. Is
there a way to read different cells from a particular excel worksheet? i.e.,
cells b50:d100 in the Inputs worksheet. I am investigating odbcConnectExcel but
did not yet see such capability.
Appreciate your help.

using eval-parse-paste in a loop
R-helpers
I have 120 small Excel sheets to read and I am using
library(xlsReadWrite): one example below.
I had hoped to read sheets by looping over a list of numbers in their
name (eg Book1.xls, Book2.xls, etc).
I thought I had seen examples which used eval-parse-paste in this way.
However, I have not been able to get it to work..
1. is this a feasible approach?
2. if not

odbcConnectExcel on non-Windows?
Hello:
What should I do regarding code to write an Excel file in a
non-Windows platform?
The "sos" package [new version of "RSiteSearch"] on R-Forge
includes "writeFindFn2xls", which starts with "require(RODBC)". The
next line calls "odbcConnectExcel". This works under Windows but fails
under Linux and MacOS.

odbcConnectExcel() fails to fetch all columns

Is there a parameter somewhere in RODBC that enables more columns to be

write.xls
Hello, All:
The "writeFindFn2xls" function in the "sos" package tries to
write an Excel file with 3 sheets ('PackageSum2', 'findFn', 'call').
Unfortunately, it is often unable to do this because of configuration
problems that are not easy to fix. I've found 3 contributed packages
that provide facilities to write Excel files with

Write/Display AR query as Grouped Results?
I''ve got a publications table that contains an author_id foreign key and
a pubrole_id foreign key. What I want to do is query the DB using AR so
that I can get a list of all publications that belong_to a particular
author, and group the results by the pubrole.role_name (Author, Joint
Author, Editor, etc.) so that the results look something like:
Author
book1 info
book2 info
etc.

Hola,
@javier, me gustaría no tener que hacer nada de forma manual, ni por fuera

RODBC: problem saving a new table in an "Excel database"
Hi
I am using package RODBC version 1.0-1 under R version 1.7.1 on Windows
XP Pro. I am having problems writing a new table to an (Excel) database
using sqlSave.
I connect to an empty Excel spreadsheet using odbcConnectExcel (which, I
believe, uses the Microsoft Excel Driver DSN). Then I try and save a new
table to the database(spreadsheet) using SqlSave, but obtain an error
message.

Rioja package, creating transfer function, WA, "Error in FUN"
Hi, I am a new R user and am trying to construct a palaeoenvironmental
transfer function (weighted averaging method) using the package rioja.
I've managed to insert the two matrices (the species abundance and the
environmental data) and have assigned them to the y and x values
respectively. When I try and enter the 'WA' function though, I get an 'Error

Gracias Jorge por contestar tan rápido.
Con gdata hago eso del path, y directamente con el fichero, lo vi en una
web, y he intentado todas las opcioens que he visto.
En vez de install.packages('rJava', type = 'source')
he hecho install.packages('rJava')
Ahora probaré, y lo mismo con scan y readLines.
He visto en stackoverflow que mi problema puede ser actualizar java,
