Installing R in Fedora Core 4
R is included in Fedora Extras. You can skip downloading Extras and updating the packages on the CD by using: yum index | grep R and installing the half dozen or so individual packages that will be listed. The number of packages may be mildly annoying but if you install this way you will be notified of R updates along with all of your other security and application updates through the Red Hat

Advice about system for installing & updating all R package in a Linux Lab?
Good day: I'm administering 6 linux systems (FC4) in a student lab and worry that users may want packages that are not installed. I get tired of adding them one by one. Then I happened upon this page http://support.stat.ucla.edu/view.php?supportid=30 about installing all R packages from CRAN. That did not run as it was, but after some fiddling I arrived at the following script, which

Fedora Core 4 x86_64
I am about to build a Dual Opteron Asterisk box as our soon to be production server. Is Core 4 supported or should I stay with Core 3? There was a recent post about an issue with the latest Core 3 Kernel and zaptel. I had the same experience, but just rolled back to the previous version of the Kernel on Core 3 on our evaluation server. Thanks in advance

one problem about how to hold graphic with R
Sorry to disturb you, but can you help me to solve one little problem? I want to draw a graphic after another with R but I cannot find the first one after that. Do you know the command to hold the graphic with R? I remember with Matlab you may use "hold on". Thanks. -- Baohua Yang Email:yangbaohua@gmail.com [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Desiring to set up Windows Vista and Linux Fedora Core 4
Greetings! Tonight is unfortunately the first small bit of time I've had to even try to get Samba configured between my Vista and my Linux FC4. (My mother as well as my extremely limited home time dealing with important things are my main delays.) It's not going well. :-) I have added hosts allow with 192.168.1 and 192.168.2. I have experimented with a few things. I

Fedora Core 4 and certificates
This is a heads-up that certificates will be moving to a new location in FC4. See section 6.2.3.1 in the release notes: <http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-notes/fc4/errata/>

Fedora Core 4
I had installed R from source on Fedora Core 3. Then I upgraded to Fedora Core 4, but left R alone. R worked fine, until I trued to update.packages(). Even then, many packages updated just fine, but two of them, cluster and mgcv, failed with the following error message (using cluster as an example): gcc -shared -L/usr/local/lib -o cluster.so clara.o daisy.o dysta.o fanny.o meet.o mona.o pam.o

Zaptel won't compile under Fedora Core 4
I hope someone can offer me some help with this. Basically, the current CVS version of Zaptel will not compile under Fedora Core 4. I have closely followed the directions in http://www.voip-info.org/tiki-index.php?page=Asterisk+Fedora+Core+3 using the versions given in the FC4 distro with no luck. Here's the output when I run "make linux26". Any help would be great. TIA.

/lib/tls will be no more in Fedora Core 4 Test 2 - updated instructions for Xen?
In Fedora Core 4 Test 2, the /lib/tls directory has gone. Most applications are linked to /lib/libc.so.6: # ldd /bin/true libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x00c72000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x001b6000) and there is /lib/obsolete/linuxthreads/ for apps that need it. What should we Xen users do now if we want to avoid triggering the code that used to emulate unsupported stuff in

Fedora Core 4 rpms
Hi, I have been waiting patiently for the Fedora Core 4 rpms. I have noticed that all of the other distros have wine-9.4, but Fedora/RedHat, the most used Linux distro of all, is still at wine-9.2 and has always been lagging for eons in the past. What gives? -- kwhiskers{ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Fedora Core 5 and Windows 98
Greetings All, My problem is trying to mount an SMB share from Fedora Core5 to a Windows 98 Machine. Before upgrading from FC4 to FC5 everything worked. I have searched around and it appears that the smbmount and mount -t smbfs options have been deprecated in Samba 3.0.22-1 in favor of CIFS. The command I have been trying now is: mount -t cifs //192.168.0.126/laptop /mnt/share -o username=chime

Hello, I tried to compile v2.3.1 on Solaris x86 with SUN Pro compilers. I had an error while stats libarary was being compiled and I notice that "-xtarget=generic64" was not passed to f95 while cc used it. Fedora Core 4 and FC5's NEW EXT3 file system: "Reserved GDT blocks" ???
Hi, I've installed a few Fedora Core 4 and Fedora Core 5 recently, and found that the new ext3 file systems created with new mkfs.ext3(1.38+) has one more field than EXT3 created with old mkfs.ext3(1.34-), even the latter's dir_index feature was turned on and file systems were upgraded with "e2fsck -y -f -D" command. I have three questions thereafter: 1) what does the

coefficient of polynomial expansion
Hi, I would like to get the coefficient of polynomial expansion. For example, (1+ x)^2 = 1 + 2x + x^2, and the coefficients are 1, 2 and 1. (1 + x + x^2)^3 = 1 + 3*x + 6*x^2 + 7*x^3 + 6*x^4 + 3*x^5 + x^6, and the coefficients are 1, 3, 6, 7, 6, 3, and 1. I know that we can use polynom library. Is there any other way to do it without loading a library. Thanks a lot for your help. Peter
