Residual resampling for non linear reg model
I was attempting to use the residual resampling approach to generate 999 bootstrap samples of alpha and beta and find their confidence intervals. However, I keep getting the error message:Error in nls(resample.mp ~ cases/(alpha + (beta * cases)), start = init.values, : singular gradientafter R has only produced a few bootstraps.Could anyone suggest where I am going wrong? Would greatly

Samba config
Hi I?m having difficulty configuring Samba running on FreeBSD. Samba version is 2.2.8a. The scenario is that we have an NT4 domain and I am looking to migrate the printers onto Samba. All of the printers are connected via print servers, mainly HP JetDirect. As far as security is concerned I am happy for guest/anonymous logon as the server will only be used for printing but I have set security to

bootstrapping error message "Error in t.star[r, ] <- statistic(data, i[r, ], ...) : number of items to replace is not a multiple of replacement length"
Hi, I am trying to run some bootstraps with the boot package. When I run it with 400 replicates it does it ok, but then I need to run the same analysis but with 89, 86, 102 and 106 samples (for four different environments), and then is when I get the error message: > mybootstrap <- boot(Datos, mystat, 2000) Error in t.star[r, ] <- statistic(data, i[r, ], ...) : number of items to

ACD and/or CTI components for Asterisk
Is there is an open source ACD component for Asterisk? Likewise, is there an open source CTI component that will work with Asterisk? Help creating a correlation matrix
Hello all. I have 14 variables, named D2_1, D2_2,...,D2_14 (inherited from a data set). I would like to create a matrix of correlations, although I would be content in just learning how to create a proper do loop. I tried something like this: (for i in 1:14){cor(D2_[i],D2_[i], use = "complete.obs")} This is wrong, of course, but I don't know how to "tell" R to run

ACL Access Denied from Windows XP workstation-2nd try
I am reposting since I didn't get any responses the fist time. I am running samba-3.0.10-1 on Fedora core 3 compiled with ACL support. I can connect to shares as expected, users in the correct Active Directory groups have access, and the converse. However when I manage the samba server through Windows XP MMC and attempt to change permissions on the security tab of the finance share I get

R graphic help
Dear All, I've done some searching, but to no avail -- I'm plotting x-y data via the "plot" command, and the "log=x" command. The graphed x values are in scientific notation (1e-02 1e-01 1e+00 etc). Might you have some idea on how I can get the plot to uses the x values (0.01 0.10 1.0 10.0 etc) instead? A related Q - where might a good place to search for such

Resampling question
Hello - I have a population of 100 individuals that I would like to bootstrap 10 times, every time removing 5 *different* individuals. So far, I have done the following: pop <- read.table('mypop.txt', header=FALSE) replicate(10, sample(pop, 95, replace=FALSE)) I have not actually gone through each of the 10 files created to make sure no single individual was removed more than once

[PATCH] resample: Fix input indexing bug from interleaved functions
From: Jyri Sarha <jsarha at ti.com> This bug happens quite often when resampling from a low to a high sample-rate with big enough factor. Also the resampling call has to be limited by the output buffer size and some unused samples needs be left in the input buffer. Sometimes when up-sampling with a big factor the resampling function wants to peek one more sample from the input buffer to

weights in lmer
Dear R users, Prof. Ripley just corrected my understanding of the use of weights in glm, which I thought would allow me to correctly use lmer. However I'm still having problems. My data takes the form of # of infected and uninfected individuals that were measured over time under different treatments. I'm using lmer to adjust for the repeated measures over time. In fitting the

my first post to the list
Hello R-listers! My first post to the list is a very simple one for those who use the software continuosly. I am trying to understand the fixed-x resampling and random-x-resampling method proposed by Fox about Bootstrapping. The doubt that I have is on the side of the model run in one of the functions expressed for fixed-x resampling. What I don't understand is: X=model.matrix, and the -1

PCA : Error in eigen(cv,
Hi all, I am doing bootstrap on a distance matrix, in which samples have been drawn with replacement. After that I do PCA on a resulted matrix, and these 2 steps are repeated 1000 times. pca(x) is a vector where I wanted to store all 1000 PCAs; and x is from 1 to 1000 SampleD is a new matrix after resampling; I am getting the following error message, which I don't understand: ....

Matrix resampling (bootstraps)
Dear all, I am trying to generate bootstrap replicate matrixes (rows=samples, column=species, sampling with replacement) from a matrix dataset, but I do not know how to do it in R. I have tried boot() and bootstrap(), but they require an statistic, which in my case is cluster analysis (generating bootstrap values for a cluster analysis is a topic that has been mentioned previously in

Moving-Tiles Bootstrap
I wish to perform moving tiles bootstrap resampling on some gridded data meteorological data. I've many years experience with S-Plus, but it has no way to perform a moving-tiles bootstrap. Within R I've learned how to use quadratresample() with the spatstats package and would be happy to simply use empirical percentiles if generating the replicates were fast, but it isn't. So,

Mail delivery failing with 450
I'm not sure why this started, but apparently I'm having a DNS problem. Yesterday mail started bouncing with this error: 450 Unable to find obrien-pifer.com I think the messages eventually get delivered, but not sure. I guess I'll see if this one makes the list. I checked my domain using http://www.checkdns.net/ and it gives me a couple warnings. One is that there's no MX

Cluster analysis and bootstraps
Hi R helpers, I was wondering if anybody knows if is possible to generate bootstrap values for a cluster analysis in R. What I am trying to do is obtain some confidence on the clusters formed by resampling the data set. A similar type of analysis is used in molecular taxonomy and the confidence values of each cluster are placed in the nodes of the dendogram. Any ideas on how to do this

Resampling Stats software
Hi, I am new to R (I have most of my experience in SAS and SPSS). I was wondering if anyone has used both Resampling Stats and R, and could comment on strengths/relationships. Also, I have no clue on how to do the various examples from the book "Resampling: The New Statistics" in R. Can anyone give me some possible starting points? Or websites/books? Thanks, Brandon
