Linux Plumbers Conference 2010 - call for tracks
Hi,
I am organizing a Virtualization track at LPC 2010 (Linux Plumbers
Conference 2010). Please see the official call for tracks below.
LPC is particular well suited for work in progress and subjects that
needs discussion and collaboration between communities, for example

xloadimage in centos 5.1
I have noticed that xloadimage rpm is not in centos 5.1
I use the command "xview -identity" to get the size of gifs, jpgs, and pngs.
xview is part of the xloadimage package.
The command "file filename" also reports sizes for gifs and pngs BUT not
for jpgs.
Is there an alternative command to use to report gif jpg and png sizes?
I thought about just getting an older

True. That's why I'm asking here for (better) ideas.
And I posted one idea I found (the ransomware-samba-tools link earlier)
already, but I'm just trying to get some dialogue / brainstorming

Ruby Interface Recommendations Photo Gallery Creation?
Hi, I''m looking to create a gallery index page of thumbnail images which
point to their associated images galleries. Also, I would like to organize
the images from left to right and top to bottom. Furthermore, I would like
to limit the number of thumbnail images on the page. I guess that I''m
needing some type of horizontal looping interface for both the thumbnail
index page

including images in a plot
Does anyone know if it is possible to incorporate image files (e.g., jpgs
or gifs) in an R graphic?
I would like to make a scatterplot in which each point is a small picture
of the animal represented by each value. Each picture would be a graphics
file. Is there some way to use such files as plot symbols in R?
Cheers,
Steve

[LLVMdev] Named metadata to represent language specific logic
Hi all,
I was wondering if we could use named metadata to store some of C++
logic without changing the IR. This is primarily only for front-end
buiding and the resulting IR (with or without metadata) should be the
same as it is today (or better).
I say this because of the number of global variables front-ends need
to keep because LLVM IR cannot represent all the information of types,

Create a simple application where user can have many albums and album
can have many photos. User should be able to upload multiple photos
while creating new album by clicking on "Add More Photo". Photos can
also have tags(comma separated). Thumbnails must be created for each
photo after uploading. Album and associated photos and tags should be

The Guilt List
I''m not a paid developer, but I still feel guilty. I thought it might
be entertaining to have a little "programmer confession." So let''s hear
an answer to this simple question:
What makes you guilty about your Rails development?
Mine is a bad one: I don''t write tests. I understand that TDD makes
sense, but I just don''t do it. I''ve

Parallel/Shared/Distributed Filesystems
I'm looking at using GFS for parallel access to shared storage, most likely
an iSCSI resource. It will most likely work just fine but I am curious if
folks are using anything with fewer system requisites (e.g. installing and
configuring the Cluster Suite).
Specifically to our case, we have 50 nodes running in-house code (some in
Java, some in C) which (among other things) receives JPGs,

rsync ignores --force and will not delete non-empty directories from destination (HFS+ -> FAT32)
Hi. This is my first post to this list. I have searched the archives but
cannot find anything that touches on this particular issue.
My scenario: I am trying to rsync from an external HFS+ (USB2) to a
FAT32 external NAS drive, using rsync version 2.6.9 protocol version 29
(as supplied with Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11). The data being synced is MP3
music files and JPGs.
The command I am issuing

Rsync to remote host much faster than 10k/sec speeds on local rsync
I run several remote rsyncs off a CentOS 4 server and also back up between
two drives on the same server.
Performance is far better on the remote rsyncs and the local rsync only
manages 10k/sec despite being on modern hardware.
Here are the stats from a local backup:
Number of files: 979548
Number of files transferred: 2289
Total file size: 24703651523 bytes
Total transferred file size:

Adding another channel to a Dial() already in progress
Greetings all,
I've been brainstorming an application that would take an incoming call and present
it to several interfaces, some of which would be external to the system.
So, a call comes into the * on a PRI DID and then will dial out to the user's desk
phone, as well as their cell phone, home phone, cottage, whatever. Whomever
answers first gets the call. No big deal so far,

[SoC09-Info] Idea submission.
Hi everybody,
as Fritz mentioned in his introducing "Google Summer of Code 2009"
email, I will manage the organizational part of the R-Project
application and (hopfully) participation.
Google's timeline schedules March 9-13 as date for organizations to
make an application as mentoring organization. The idea is now to
collect as many project ideas in a brainstorming phase and submit

RE: [on-asterisk] Brainstorming dual-core and Asterisk
I believe you can assign processors in vmware, and xen as well.
So you could probably do something funky like that to try to reduce
load.
The only thing that probably becomes difficult is trying to manage
physical hardware between virtual machines.

attachment_fu - convert an image to 8-bit text
hi all
I''m using attachment_fu to handle a bunch of uploaded images (jpgs). I

converted to 8 bit text, all in one string, like
render :text => "LOGO1=<bunch of text>,LOGO2=<another bunch of text>"
Can i do this conversion in a simple way with attachment_fu? Or by some
other method?
thanks

Flickr Uploader Unable to Read From SD Card
Hi,
recently my installation of Flickr Uploader (v2.5) has stopped being able to read JPGs from the SD card. I can still browse and select the file, and I can still open the files in other applications (ie, I am pretty sure it's not a permissions issue), but Flickr Uploader reports that the file is not in a supported format. However, if I copy the file to my hard drive the Uploader opens it
