how to close connections?
Hi everybody,
I am using gzipped files quite extensively and cannot figure out how I
can close (or reuse) connections.
Example:

Some random thoughts
Dear all,
I hope you will forgive me for posting without lurking, and indeed,
without even being subscribed to the list.
Let me first say that efforts such as Ogg shows there is still a lot of
good in mankind, this is truly a great effort!
While I haven't been lurking, I've been looking through the archives to
see if this stuff has been discussed before, and I have also tried to read

New version of Epi package out (1.0.7)
A new major upgrade of the Epi package for Epidemiological data analysis
has been put on CRAN, it is now at version 1.0.7.
It contains an entirely new way of representing follow-up data on
multiple timescales and multiple states. See the function Lexis().
Plus a lot of other useful stuff for epidemiological analysis.
See more on the package homepage, www.biostat.ku.dk/~bxc/Epi

New package: DCluster
Dear R users,
I am glad to announce the release of a new package for R: DCluster. It
implements a number of methods for the detection of clusters of disease.
It includes methods to test Poisson extra-variation (Chi-square test and
Potthoff-Whittinghill's test), Spatial Autocorrelation (Moran's I and
Geary's c), general clustering (Whittermore's statistic and Tango's

greater-than-or-equal-to symbol in a legend
Hello,
I am unable to get the greater-than-or-equal-to symbol (?) in a legend.
I am able to get pi, squares, sqrt, but not this particular symbol. Can
anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
legend(locator(n=1), legend = c("Observed", expression("Area < 5"* m^2),
expression("Area >= 5"*m^2)), pch=c(1,16,4), bg="white")
Much thanks in advance,

ordering and factors into column headings
Hi,
The lab in which I send my samples return the results in a format that
is difficult for me to run my analysis. The lab outputs the results
where each parameter is its own row and it’s not consistently in the
same order (and not each sample is tested for the same suite of
variables).
e.g.

epidemiology ode likelihood, hierarchical model
Hi all,
I study epidemiology of soilborne disease.
I have this ode model
dS/dt = - (rp(t) X + rs(t) I) * S
with X=1 ; rp(t) = ap exp( - bp*t) ;
rs(t) = as exp (-0.5 ( ln (t/ds) / bs)? )
The data I have are not directly the infected individuals (which is a
hidden state) but the Diseases ones (individuals who show aerial
symptoms). I have studied with experiments the relationship between

survdiff
Hello,
As I am quitte an ignorant user of R, excuse me for any wrongfull usage of
all the terms.
My question relates to the statistics behind the survdiff function in the
package survival.
My textbook knowledge of the logrank test tells me that if I want to compare
two survival curves, I have to take the sum of the factors: (O-E)^2/E of
both groups, which will give me the Chisq.
If I calculate

Epidemiology Tools
Hi all,
Please help on this. We will be teaching epidemiology using opensource
software. What are R built-in functions or functions in available packages
that are capable of doing these:
a) Logistic regression (glm?)
b) Conditional logistic regression
c) Logistic regression with random effects
d) Beta-binomial regression
e) Poisson regression
f) Weibull regression (eha?)
g) Exponential

This is my first attempt at creating a samba pdc. I am receiving the

NetworkManager default route
Hello,
Why is it so, that NetworkManager allows, and in several cases I've had,
defaults to setting default route to several interfaces at the same time?
Had my fair share of problems with how 172.17.62.something interface
tries to ask for a DHCP lease from 193.something network. I know I could
set never-default to the interfaces, but I shouldn't have to do it to
every machine I had.

Fwd: AQuA Meter – waveform analysis to get continous MOS scores for your network
Hi,
Although this is a repost from Asterisk biz, we would like to ask if
somebody may help us to develop a native Asterisk module using AQuA
technology for voice quality monitoring using the same web service AQuA
Meter is using.
Thanks,

bitrate
Hi all,
a hope, someone can help me:
i have encode a wav-file into the ogg-format. Then i decode the ogg-file to
a wav-file again.
But the wav-file does not play in the MS-Mediaplayer and my own written
J2audioPlayer.
In WinAmp it`s all ok.
The following wav-dataformats are running good: ACM, DVI/IMA, MU-LAW, PCM.
The BitRate from my OGG-wav is: 1203537 kBit/s
The BitRate from my PCM-wav is:
