how to set options (variables) permanently
Hi,
after starting Emacs/ESS/R environment I tried to launch "edit" or
"fix". This normally should fire up the $editor, isn't it.
Instead of this I regularily I run into an error that there something

problems with ESS & R ...
Hi!
I have R 1.9.1, Mac OS X 10.3.5, GNU Emacs 21.2.1 and ESS 5.2.3.
I installed today the ESS by not changing ess-site.el, but creating
.emacs in $home with the single line:
$ cat ~/.emacs
(load "/usr/local/lib/ess-5.2.3/lisp/ess-site")
If I start now emacs and then R (with M-x R) then I get:

but using fix() oder

Some random thoughts
Dear all,
I hope you will forgive me for posting without lurking, and indeed,
without even being subscribed to the list.
Let me first say that efforts such as Ogg shows there is still a lot of
good in mankind, this is truly a great effort!
While I haven't been lurking, I've been looking through the archives to
see if this stuff has been discussed before, and I have also tried to read

How to avoid rsyncing incomplete uploads? (best practice on fileservers?)
Hi,
some big files are regularily updated on server A.
Rsync should sync that with Server B.
If rsync starts in the middle of an upload process, will it copy that
incomplete file to Server B?
First tests showed it will. How can this be avoided?
Comments on rsync-usage with big files and very active users would be
very appreciated!
Thanks!

Calling Emacs Lisp Code/Function from R
Hi,
if you run a server in your Emacs session you can use emacsclient to
send a lisp call to the server. There's an example here:

Hi,
After some reading and experimentation I found that I cannot solve this
problem:

I am starting R and check:

Computing a reliability index of a statistic with missing data
Hi All,
I'd like to compute a kind of reliability index (RI) that would in a
sense stand as a measure of reliability of a statistic (histogram etc)
computed on a time serie with missing values. The final goal is that:
RI=1 for a perfect reliability
RI=0 for a total unreliability (no data at all as an extreme case...)
The percentage of missing data is one indication: the more missing data,

Help System (PR#428)
Dear R developers,
sorry about the empty bug-report that I seem to have filed earlier.
(I wrote it via `bug.report()' from within R using `emacsclient'. I
wasn't aware that I have to save the file after pressing C-x # and
before sending it.) Hopefully this time it will work......
I noticed the following problem with the on-line help system:

MS Word document window disappearing in 2003 & 2007 versions
Hi
Regularily, I will 'lose' a Word document window. It happens when both single and multiple documents are opened. I will first explain the 2 document case.
If I open 2 documents, I can see this fact by looking at the 'window' menu; there, it will say that there are 2 documents open. I can see one document, on screen, but when I try to activate the document that is not seen,

dovecot-acl file questions
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello,
playing around with Dovecot's v1.2 ACLs I wondered about some things about
the dovecot-acl files:
+ They are created within the Maildirs, as described in
http://wiki.dovecot.org/ACL.
But why? Shouldn't they belong to the CONTROL= directories? So it is more
compatible with filesystem quota.
+ They have 0666 permissions, but all

it seems that I am in the mood of filing bug reports. Partly because

loading error of the Rcmdr library on Debian Sid [SOLVED]
Hello,
hopefully someone will remember my previous problem to load the Rcmdr
library from within GNU R resulting in an error message:
"libnvidia-tls.so.1: cannot handle TLS data".
Some suggestions have been raised by Christian Schulz and others that
unfortunately didn't work around this error.
Nevertheless I felt very grateful for your suggestions!

Sjava question on MacOS 10.3
I am running R-1.81, apple's JVM installed with OS 10.3.2, and installed
Sjava-0.65.X (a patched version of Sjava for MacOS from Simon Urbanek, which
I know is inherently dangerous, but...). This version installed fine and
some aspects seem to work as expected. However, this is one of the examples
and causes R to hang. Any insights? What other information should I
provide to make it easier

Intro to R: lecture presentation
Hi All:
A couple of weeks back, I asked a question on the list that I was invited to provide an introductory lecture on R to a group of academicians in Kolkata. I thank all of you who had generously guided me in providing me web links and words to the wise.
Time to give back. I did the presentation on introduction to R and uploaded the presentation files at the following site:
