Non-Central t
In the help file for the non-central t, the following appears:
ncp: non-centrality parameter delta; currently `ncp <= 37.62'.
I assume that this means the ncp cannot exceed 37.62. Is this
still the case and is there any plans to increase this restriction?
Thanks!

max.col
I am trying to run, in R -Windows95, the example in MASS2,

Error: couldn't find function "max.col"
I get the plot OK, but within predict(), it balks on max.col

Dialog boxes
Hello:
I am brand new to R, though I've used S-Plus for some time. I've
developed some specialized plotting functions that I want to distribute
and would like to provide users with a dialogbox for entering input
arguments. Has anyone developed functions in R for displaying
dialogboxes that could accept multiple inputs? I found winDialog and
winDialogString, but these only accept and

RE:
Do you know what I really, really miss in R that I took fopr granted in
my XLisp-Stat programming days??? The ability to easily create menus
and dialog boxes. I could write little applications and give them out to
clients. It was wonderful. It would at least allow each person to begin
to build one's own menu driven version. Just a thought!!

Ortho - a library for JavaScript Graphics and Text
I''ve written a JavaScript library called Ortho (http://www.craic.com/
ortho) on top of Prototype for creating ''diagram-style'' graphics in
JavaScript. You can create histograms, graphs, timeline plots, ''maps''
of genomic data, annotated images, tree diagrams, etc.
Unlike Canvas, it seamlessly integrates text with graphics and the
output looks the same

xyplot: key inside the plot region / lme: confidence bands for predicted
I have two questions related to plotting predicted values for a linear
mixed model using xyplot:
1: With a groups= argument, I can't seem to get the key to appear
inside the xyplot. (I have the Lattice book,
but don't find an example that actually does this.)
2: With lme(), how can I generate confidence bands or prediction
intervals around the fitted values? Once
I get them, I'd

Trouble combining plotmath, bquote, expressions
I'm using R-2.6.2 on Fedora Linux 9.
I've been experimenting with plotmath.
I wish it were easier to combine expressions in plotmath with values
from the R program itself. There are two parameters in the following
example, the mean "mymean" and standard deviation "mystd". I am able
to use bquote to write elements into the graph title like
mu = mymean
and R will

Sweave: infelicities with lattice graphics
In a paper I'm writing using Sweave, I make use of lattice graphics, but
don't want to explicitly show (or explain)
in the article text the print() wrapper I need in code chunks for the
graphs to appear.
I can solve this by including each chunk twice, with different options,
as in

Question: Beginner stuck in a R cycle
Dear All,
I have a database of 200 observations named myD.
In the dataframe there are a column named code (with codes varying from 1 to 77), a column named "prevalence" with some quantitative measurements are given and an column named Pr_mean, with no values.
I would like to set a cycle to compute the average of prevalence values for each different code and store the averages under the

xyplot: adding pooled regression lines to a paneled type="r" plot

main="Individual linear regressions ~ age")
I'd like to also show in each panel the pooled OLS

how to use apply with two variables
Hi,
this is a made-up example. Function "myfun" returns two arguments. Can
"apply" be used so that "myfun" is called only once?
Thanks

About normality tests...
Hi all,
I have two very large samples of data (10000+ data points) and would
like to perform normality tests on it. I know that p < .05 means that
a data set is considered as not normal with any of the two tests. I am
also aware that large samples tend to lead more likely to normal
results (Andy Field, 2005).
I have a few questions to ensure that I am using them right.
1) The Shapiro-Wilk

R CMD INSTALL --build: Folders /inst and /etc not in zip-file and WindowsXP locks /library/[package]/etc/
Dear R users,
My set-up: OS=Windows XP, R-2.9.2, Rtools210
I faced the follwing problem with the package compilation: There is no
"/inst" or "/etc" subdirectory in the package-zip-file. And the content of
the "/etc" subdirectory is lost, too. I tried a simplified "test" package.
The "test" package has the following structure (see also attachement:

residuals from pcaiv
Dear R users,
How can I extract the residuals from a pcaiv/rda in ade4?
In Vegan there is the
residuals()
function, giving the approximation of the original data from the

Is there something similar in ade4?

calculating p-values of columns in a dataframe
I have a dataframe ("mydf") that contains "differences of means".
I wish to test whether these differences are significantly different from zero.
Below, I calculate the t-statistic for each column.
What is a "good" method to calculate/look-up the p-value for each column?
mydf=data.frame(a=c(1,-22,3,-4),b=c(5,-6,-7,9))
mymean=mean(mydf)
mysd=sd(mydf)

Odd diagnostic plots in mixed-effects models
Dear R community,
In the excellent nlme package the default diagnostic plot graphs the innermost residuals against innermost fitted values. I recently fit a mixed-effects model in which there was a very clear positive linear trend in this plot.
I inferred that this trend occurred because my fixed effect was a two-level factor, and my random effect was a 12-level factor. The negative residuals

Find out the day of week for a chron object?
I know that this is correct:
library(chron)
x = dates("01-03-04", format="d-m-y", out.format="day mon year")
print(x)
It gives me the string "01 Mar 2004" which is correct.
I also know that I can say:
print(day.of.week(3,1,2004))
in which case he says 1, for today is monday.
My question is: How do I combine these two!? :-) I have a
