Extending a vector
I believe this should be an easy thing to do...
I have a function I repeatably call which takes input parameters and
outputs columns to various data frames. I also wish to keep a summary of
certain values as I call the function. I though keeping the values in a
vector then appending the vector by the new amounts would be the way to
do this.
Example: (this is what I want even thought the below

Minimize a plot window
Is it possible to start a X11() device in a minimized state? I have many
windows, each with useful data, which clutter the screen. Having each
window minimize upon creation would help.

OS X Clients Can't Create Sub-Directories
I'm running samba on a local linux server, with a bunch of shares. Over the last several years, this has worked perfectly in our heterogenous network of OS X and Windows. All my windows clients still work perfectly - my users can mount the samba shares and create, rename, move etc files and folders.
However, recently (starting yesterday) my OS X clients are unable to rename any sub

winbind and local groups
Hi, I have been setting up samba and winbind on a Debian Linux box to
allow access to shares authenticating from a Windows 2000 Active Directory
Domain.
I have got almost everythign I want to work, but I am stuck with one
thing. I would like to add domain users to a local unix group and then
add that group to the valid users line to a share. Enclosed is my
smb.conf and my /etc/group files

Details of local copy
I see in the manpage that if rsync is used to copy files locally, "it
behaves like an improved copy command". I was hoping for more details on
what that means.
Here's the specific situation I'm wondering about. I have some files that
are stored in two different locations on the same server. I could rsync
the files from the remote server twice, first to one location and then

CentOS4 and older megaraid
Release notes say no support for the RAID card in a box I just picked
up...is there no hope for this box running 2.6 kernel?
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/release-

The kernel shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 includes the new
megaraid_mbox driver from LSI Logic, which replaces the megaraid driver.
The megaraid_mbox driver has an improved design,

NT Crashes when doing large network file Xfers (was Re: NT crashes during smbtar)
Ernie,
Thanks for the great info.. Based on what you were seeing, would
you suspect that part of the problem is with the combination of NT
and the 3com card (3c595)? Currently, we are ONLY seeing this
under NT Workstation (not server) and almost all of our machines
have this same 3com 3c595 card (only if using 100BaseT)..

Database Design
Hello,
I have a user table that stores their username, email address, and
password. (along with salt, etc)
However, now I want to have more complex information associated with
each user (address, etc). I''m no DBA expert, so in terms of
performance, which is better:
- A user table that has all the fields in it (Username, Email,
password, country, state, zipcode, etc)
- A user table that

Question
Is there a way to prevent other users from being able to map a drive from
windoww95/NT to anyother user directory on the system. For example I can map
to anyone's account on the system and have read only access, is there a way
to stop this in either the global or share level?
Thanks

Xen not applying custom network script on startup
I'm seeing an issue with xend not running a custom network script
automatically, but works when I run it manually.
In /etc/xen/xend-config.sxp I've changed:
(network-script network-bridge)
TO:
(network-script network-custom)
Here is /etc/xen/scripts/network-custom:

Information
I have Windows XP on my computer. I am trying to access the audio on a file that my client has sent me. The message says: Codec is missig. Speex Voice A109 is not installed on your computer. When I try to install it from the internet, it tells me it cannot be installed. Can you give me any help on installing Speex Voice A109 so I can access the audio?

smbpasswd fails with unix password sync enabled
Hello again,
I would like to thank Giant Wang and Miquel Bonastre for their responses
to my query in "Samba Digest 1734" regarding simultaneous passwd changing for
users via Samba. Their comments were helpful, but have not solved the
problem.
For those who do not have a back log of the Digests, the problem is that
with unix password sync=yes, users are not able to change their own

Samba Children aren't dying, fighting instead
Hello All,
First I would like to thank you all for for providing such a wonderful
forum for Samba discussion. I have learned *vast* amounts perusing
this list. I also would like to thank people for their replies to
my previous question (Re: lock files on write protected shares). That all
works great now!
My most irritating problem recently has become worse as more people are
