variance estimates in lme biased?
Hi all, I didn't get a response to my post of this issue a week ago, so I've tried to clarify: When I use lme to analyze a model of nested random effects, the variance estimates of levels higher in the hierarchy appear to have much more variance than they should. In the example below with 4 levels, I simulate variance in level 2 (sd=1.0) and level 4 (sd=0.1), but levels 1 and 3 do

[LLVMdev] Questions on Memory Optimizations
Hi, I would like to eliminate all the load instructions and replace their uses with the stored values in the following program. The stores and loads are in the same basic block. Is there an optimization pass in LLVM 3.0 that can do this? define void @testFunc() { entry: %sVal = alloca %sTy %f1 = getelementptr %sTy* %sVal, i32 0, i32 0 store i32 789, i32* %f1 %f2 = getelementptr %sTy*

Sale on ogg-vorbis 256 MB player - $10 + shipping
Hi all, The price at samsungrb.com on the YP-F1V just dropped to $10. It is usually around $30. I am posting here first with the hope other vorbis enthusiasts will get in on the deal before it hits fatwallet and slickdeals. I plan to post it to fatwallet.com Monday morning if they are still available. For me, one player shipped was $18, two players shipped was $24.

WARNING TO ALL - I just got what appears to be an infected Word document attachment via the list. The apparently forged headers look suspicious, too. Astricon - let's talk call centers?
Hi list, I know it's a bit OT, but for those who will be at the Astricon, we are organizing a very informal meeting (maybe in front of a pint or two) to talk about Asterisk for call-centers. No marketing or anything - just a way to exchange ideas and meet f2f. I created a facebook group to organize it - see https://www.facebook.com/groups/507826572618269/ See you in Atlanta! l. --

[CAVPdiscussion] OT: RFC: Canadian Association o f Voice over IP Users (CAVU)
In the latest CAVP conference call, the membership body voted to restrict membership to VoIP LEC's and to create a seperate membership body for any other parties interested in contributing to the CAVP's efforts in CRTC lobbying and providing a unified industry presence in the Canadian telco industry with a view to VoIP services. Accordingly, I would like to propose an adjutant association

[fdo] Freedesktop sdk aka 'tiny base runtime' project
Hi all, So i wanted to kick off this mailing list by trying to round up a few things which have been discussed recently, at GUADEC, in f2f conversations afterwards, or shot over emails between a few people. It's been discussed for a while that we want to create a tiny base runtime with bst. The upshot is this will homogenize the metadata used in the build process for Flatpak, GNOME

[PATCH RFC v3 0/6] x86/idle: add halt poll support
From: Yang Zhang <yang.zhang.wz at gmail.com> Some latency-intensive workload have seen obviously performance drop when running inside VM. The main reason is that the overhead is amplified when running inside VM. The most cost I have seen is inside idle path. This patch introduces a new mechanism to poll for a while before entering idle state. If schedule is needed during poll, then we

Improving efficiency in "outer"-like calculation
Hello, I am doing mcmc=10000 simulations from a posterior distribution of the parameters of a mixture of K=6 normal densities. I have mcmc by K matrices simMeans, simVars and simWeights containing the simulation output: one row for each simulation, one column for each normal component of the mixture. One thing I would like to do is a plot of the posterior predictive density. In order to do that

An old ld-linux.so hole
Section I. Overview Hello, About a half year ago there was some rumour on bugtraq concerning a buffer overflow in Linux dynamic linkers, ld.so and ld-linux.so. You can take a look at the beginning of the thread at http://www.geek-girl.com/bugtraq/1997_3/0089.html to refresh old memories; I''ll capitalize anyway. Briefly, there exists a buffer overrun in ld-linux.so versions 1.7.14,

I have tried the following, but it doesn't work... > sim <- c('simMeans','simVars','simWeights') > indexTable <- table(modelIndex) > for (i in sim) { + assign(tmp <-

gcc and g77 combos
--Apple-Mail-7--233789088 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed Hi Kurt I currently have on my Mac gcc 2.95.2, 3.1, and 3.3 and the corresponding g77 versions as well. R builds fine with the 2.95.2 combo, it also builds fine with gcc 2.95.2 and g77 3.1. But using gcc 3.1 or gcc 3.3 gives the familiar problem that I mentioned before (although

[Openmp-dev] [cfe-dev] RFC: Proposing an LLVM subproject for parallelism runtime and support libraries
I think that we should settle on a name and move on with this. Furthermore, I think that something broad, like 'parallel', is a good term for this. 'compiler-rt' is also broad (there are lots of different runtime libraries in it). I think that we, the larger LLVM community, want the SE developers and the lib*offload developers to form a mutually-collaborating part of the LLVM
