Change default parameters of panel.smooth
Hello,
can anyome tell me how to access the full script of the panel.smooth function so that I can change the thickness of the smoothing line or its colour ?
All I could access is :

function (x, y, col = par("col"), bg = NA, pch = par("pch"),
cex = 1, col.smooth = "red", span = 2/3, iter = 3, ...)

S's plclust and R's hclust
Hello everyone,
Does anyone know how to implement the argument "unit" in R's plclust
function ? I used to use Splus where this argument exists but it has not
been implemented in R's plclust. The reason why I switched from Splus to
R is that Ward's method is not implemented for S's hclust whereas it is
implemented for R's hclust. What I would need is S's plclust

Does anyone know how to run Principal Coordinates Analysis (PCoA) from a
squared euclidean dissimilarity matrix with R ?
Thanks,

pls regression - optimal number of LVs
Dear R-helpers,
I have performed a PLS regression with the mvr function from the pls.pcr package an I have 2 questions :
1- do you know if mvr automatically centers the data ? It seems to me that it does so...
2- why in the situation below does the output say that the optimal number of latent variables is 4 ? In my humble opinion, it is 2 because the RMS increases and the R2 decreases when 3 LVs

Strange problem.
Hi, everyone,
I am a new user of R. Recently, I tried the following commands, but couldn't make them work. If any one of you has some ideas about it, please help me. The commands are
>std<-1000
>mean<-8000
>prior<-function(n){1/(sqrt(2*pi)*std)*exp(-1.0*(n-mean)^2/(2*std^2))}
>plot(prior,1,15000)
>post<-function(n){
+ if(n < 9543)
+ 0

pls.pcr compared to Unscrambler
Dear R-helpers,
Has anybody ever tried to compare pls regression outputs from the pls.pcr R-package developped by Wehrens with outputs from the Unscrambler software developped by CAMO company ?
I find very different outputs and wonder if this comes from differences between methods/algorithms SIMPLS (pls.pcr) and PLS1 (Unscrambler).

axis colors in pairs plot
The following command produces red axis line in a pairs
plot:
pairs(iris[1:4], main = "Anderson's Iris Data -- 3 species",
pch = "+", col = c("red", "green3", "blue")[unclass(iris$Species)])
Trying to fool pairs in the following way produces the
same plot as above:
pairs(iris[1:4], main = "Anderson's Iris Data -- 3

Basic question on applying a function to each row of a dataframe
Hi,
I have a function foo(x,y) and a dataframe, DF, comprised of two vectors, x
& w, as follows :
x w
1 1 1
2 2 1
3 3 1
4 4 1
etc
I would like to apply the function foo to each 'pair' within DF e.g
foo(1,1), foo(2,1), foo(3,1) etc
I have tried
>apply(DF,foo)
>apply(DF[,],foo)
>apply(DF[DF$x,DF$w],foo)
However, none of the above worked. Can anyone help ?

pairs() Legend
Hi,
Is it possible to create a legend in a pairs() plot?
For example, suppose I have the following R codes:
data(iris)
pairs(iris[1:4], main = "Anderson's Iris Data -- 3 species",
pch = 21, bg = c("red", "green3", "blue")[codes(iris$Species)])
How can I created a legend that shows which colour represents to which
Iris species?
Thanks,

Problem with Rcmd SHLIB
Dear R-helpers,
i am trying to make a shared library from a Fortran subroutine, and i therefore used (after reading the documentation):

Simple linear regression
Dear all,
My friend wants to fit a model of the type
z = a x^n y^m + b,
where x, y, z are data and a, b, n, m are unknown parameters.
How can he transform this to fit in the linear regression framework?
Any help would be appreciated.
With regards,
Gorazd Brumen

Rpart question - labeling nodes with something not in x$frame
I have a tree created with
tr.hh.logcas <- rpart(log(YCASSX + 1)~AGE+DRUGUSEY+SEX+OBSXNUM +WINDLE,
xval = 10)
I would like to label the nodes with YCASSX rather than log(YCASSX +
1). But the help file for text in library rpart says that you can only
use labels that are part of x$frame, which YCASSX is not.
Is there a way to do what I want?
Thanks in advance

Is the function "lme" (Mixed Model) also in a foreign library(shouldnt, as
this is a basic statistical function)? I am trying to use lme in R and it
replies that it couldnt find the function lme...weird...
Thanks for replying!
