Does rattle depend on testing's ggobi?
Hello All,
I'm trying to install rattle from source on a AMD64 machine running etch. I
have two packages installed from the etch backport
(r-cran-rodbc and r-cran-rsprng) but all the rest installed from source. I'm
trying to install rattle, but

Tries to install rggobi, which complains about the version of libggobi. Does

Assigning functions in Rprofile
I use the ugly hack shown below as my .Rprofile (mainly because I couldn't
find any other way to spawn a new mozilla window on starting R or calling
help.start(), but then send all the help html documents to that new
window).
With a recent change from a cvs checkout to the released 1.9.0 I find that
the new hs() appears if there is nothing of that name in .RData, but if
there is the old hs()

R CMD check fails at package dependencies check on Fedora Core 5, works on other systems
I'm testing a FC5 machine for use in a student lab. R 2.3.1 is installed and
seems to work fine. There is one peculiarity - the logins are authenticating
to a server, and a "verbose" flag is set somewhere, leading to lots of
spurious messages like this
request done: ld 0xa227598 msgid 1
which may be confusing R.
However, R CMD check seems to fail for packages with no

R 2.8.0 for Debian etch
Dear all,
It is my pleasure to announce the immediate availability of R 2.8.0
for the current Debian stable release on CRAN. Source packages and
binaries for i386 and amd64 are at your disposal.
I also updated the README to include a short howto for using R 2.8.0 from
unstable on testing (lenny), which is currently frozen. This currently pulls
the current pcre from unstable, next to the current

range checking
I'm tidying up the gld package at the moment, and the following is my best
effort at checking if values are outside the range of the function
(which is [0,1] in this case).
It seems incredibly messy - is there something better?
outside.range <- !as.logical(((p<1)*(p>0))|(sapply(p,
all.equal,1)=="TRUE")|(sapply(p, all.equal, 0)=="TRUE"))

Poll: Does R_PAPERSIZE in /etc/R/Renviron matter?
A heuristic runs via the r-base-core package postinst. It is intended
to use the result from Debian's paperconf(1) toool, and to update the R
environment variable R_PAPERSIZE accordingly. This apparently broke some
time ago when R changed to a dual variable setup, and my regexp didn't
notice.
Does anybody use this, or is it ok if I simply disable this in Debian? In
that case we simply

can you library(MASS) with R 1.9.0?
I'm trying to track down a rather critical problem. This happens both
on Debian's current unstable as well a from anoncvs built this
morning, reinstalling MASS. Is anyone else seeing this or am I just
broken and special?

package manual without index? check breaks with - LaTeX errors when creating PDF version.
Hello,
What am I doing wrong about creating an index for my package documentation?
Using 2.9.2, I am checking the gld package. It reports the following (all
earlier lines OK):
* checking PDF version of manual ... WARNING
LaTeX errors when creating PDF version.
This typically indicates Rd problems.
* checking PDF version of manual without index ... ERROR

Re: Regarding Installation
Its possible to corrupt the binary if you actually open it in a browser,
and the browser tries to display it, and then you save it.
Have you tried right-clicking on the link to download it?
Robert.

how to search r-help?
I am new to this listand am unable to get the search tools listed on
https://stat.ethz.ch/mailman/listinfo/r-help towork. What do people use
to search the help archives?
1. The google search box on http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/~rking/R/
returns a 404 error.
2. The http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/ site has many references but I
don't see how to search r-help from there.

R "sumo" package suggestion
r-help:
I have an R package suggestion. After spending
several hours the other day installing about a dozen
packages, I had an idea. In xemacs, there is a
"sumo" package which allows me to install a large
bundle of xemacs packages at one time (about a 120
modes including ESS). I think R should have a
similar bundle. It would be so much easier than
hunting/downloading/installing.

maps library for R?
Hi there,
Does it already exist a library in R to draw maps (something like a Generic
Mapping Toolbox, http://gmt.soest.hawaii.edu/ port).
I've seen in an old R-help that Ross Ihaka once tried to port the S-plus map
library (http://maths.newcastle.edu.au/~rking/R/help/99b/0832.html ).
Anybody know if this package is available somewhere or if there is somebody

remove and put back elements in vector
Hi,
How can I remove elements from a vector and them put them back in place??
An example (very simple, my vector/operations are much larger/complicated):
Got a vector, lets say:
a<-c(1,2,40,10,3,20,6);
# I remove values larger than 10
a<-a[a<10]
# Do some operations on the new a "1 2 3 6"
b<-a^2
# Now b is "[1] 1 4 9 36"
# Now I want to insert the elements I

But now my problem, yesterday I installed R 2.1.1

My windows locals is French (Switzerland).
I'm used to English and I want to reset my RGui to English.
I was seeking for the solution in the archives,
