Build R-patched from Source
Hi,
If I want to build R-patched from source (on Windows), do I need to edit
Makefile and/or MkRules at all?
I have followed all instructions in the INSTALL file (under
R-patched/src/gnuwin32/), as well as downloaded all the files from
http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/Rtools/ . My PATH variable has been
modified accordingly.
Now, with the only change to MkRules I made was to modify the Tcl/Tk

How to organize/develop an R function
Hi
Maybe this is not an issue about R. It's probably a programming issue
and I am not a developer at all. Anyway my main developing activities
are in R and that's where I have difficulties.
When I develop a function or group of functions I lose eternities with
the objects attributes and classes. I do a lot of object manipulation
(lists to arrays, factors to numeric vectors, etc, etc) so

Branchable migrations -- A plugin to let you organize your migrations
I just put a new plugin named branchable_migrations on Github.
Branchable migrations lets you separate your migrations into
"branches" (i.e., a director under db/migrate) that each have their
own version. Using the forthcoming UTC timestamped migrations and
this plugin, you can separate migrations by table or feature. Doing
so should alleviate many of the problems that seem to pike up

Fatal Error: Invalid HOMEDRIVE
All,
I've encountered the same problem as others who have posted under the same
subject.
I've had R-1.8.1 installed and running since it was released. Yesterday
morning when I tried to start Rgui.exe I got the subject error message.
Since I live at the whim of the network administrators I can only assume it
was a recent MS critical update.
I tried installing R-1.9.0 but no joy.

Package Install Problem under Win98
Hi,
I have tried to install 'tensor' as a new package in these phases:
1.
via 'Install package from local Zip-File' in Rgui/Windows98:
install.packages("D:/R/_Pakets12MB/tensor.zip", .lib.loc[1], CRAN = NULL)
2.
Looking at the library folder, there was now a new entry 'tensor'
including some files e.g.
\library\tensor\R\tensor.R
3.
Then I have done

Problem with data conversion
Hi All:
I came across the following problem while working with a dataset, and
wondered if there could be a solution I sought here.
My dataset consists of information on 402 individuals with the followng five
variables (age, sex, status = a binary variable with levels "case" or
"control", mma, dma).
During data check, I found that in the raw data, the data entry

Dear R list,
I have installed R 2.1.1 for Windows. In the help menu

same folder as the other manuals but still it is not
available in the menu. How can I solve this problem?
Thank your for the help

R and UBUNTU startup
Dear all
I have 3 questions. Due to some reason I switched from Vista to Ubuntu on home PC. I was used to start with Rgui.exe. However I am not able to find it under Ubuntu and R starts as terminal (probably Rterm).
Question 1. Is Rgui.exe available on linux?
In Windows doc folder I can find manuals, however I did not find doc folder in Ubuntu. I found somewhere that manuals need to be

final tests fail with samba...can anyone help?
Hello,
I just took an old PC and installed SuSE 7.0 on it. The machine has 32Mb of RAM, so I needed a slim installation and kernel, and this was the only package I could get to install without immense effort (I tried 5 other versions of small linux distros from linuxiso.org before this one).
The version of Samba I installed on this Suse box is 2.0.7. From what I have read, this version SHOULD

Recommend verification
I recommend someone verify that tar.gz and tar.xz files ( at

errors.
(I assume use of compression is in hope of saving download bandwidth)

warnings --- wish/bug (PR#1148)
When R prints warnings, they often go "out of the line", it would be
better if they where wrapped with
writeLines(strwrap ...
I tried to do that , changing the function warnings, but it has only
effect when called explicitely, not when R prints the warnings unasked.
Anyhow, here is the changed warnings:
warnings <-
function (...)
{
if (!(n <- length(last.warning)))

Memory Problems with CSV and Survey Objects
I'm working with a 350MB CSV file on a server that has 3GB of RAM, yet I'm
hitting a memory error when I try to store the data frame into a survey
design object, the R object that stores data for complex sample survey data.
When I launch R, I execute the following line from Windows:
