tclServiceMode: stop Tcl/Tk from updating
In Windows, Tcl/Tk programs running under the tcltk package can update
too frequently: for exmaple, we might go through a long sequence of
operations to construct a complex display, and in Windows each addition
will be shown separately.
To work around this, I've added a function "tclServiceMode" which serves
as an R interface to the "Tcl_SetServiceMode" function in the

another tcl/tk query
Greetings:
I wish to use a tcl/tk widget to ask for user-selected parameter values. My
widget works ? it asks for and returns to my workspace the stuff I need.
Here is a snippet of my code:
###############################
OnOK <- function()
{
LOG.X <<- as.logical(as.character(tclvalue(log.X.buttonValue)))
LOG.Y <<- as.logical(as.character(tclvalue(log.Y.buttonValue)))

Request for users of my R-Tcl/Tk examples, limmaGUI or affylmGUI
[PLEASE REPLY _OFF_ THE LIST, i.e. DON'T CC to r-help at ...]
Hi,
I don't see this sort of thing very often on the mailing lists, so list
moderators and others should feel free to tell me if it breaches list
etiquette and/or delete my post if necessary. But I can't see what harm
it could do...
I am just wondering approximately how many people use / have used some of
the R stuff

[macosx] improving quartz & Aqua Tk behaviour outside of RGui
Hello,
On Mac OS X, certain Aqua/Quartz UI functionality requires an
application to be launched from within an app bundle, or
(alternatively) requires a Carbon application with a resource fork.
Playing with the wxWidgets distribution, I discovered that it is quite
easy and transparent to make such a Carbon app from (I guess) any
command line application. When applied to the R executable called

Retrieving data from a tcl /tk function
Hello,
I am sorry if this is an answered question, but I did my homework for a long while and couldn't figure out a way to retrieve data entry from a model dialog. In one of the examples compiled by James Wettenhall:
odalDialog <- function(title, question, entryInit, entryWidth = 20,
returnValOnCancel = "ID_CANCEL") {
dlg <- tktoplevel()
tkwm.deiconify(dlg)

slow tcl/tk
Dear list,
Building my QCAGUI package using Rcmdr 1.3.0, under R 2.6.0 (using Kubuntu
Gutsy) I noticed the library starts visibly slower than... somewhere in the
past.
I used the same version of Rcmdr under previous versions of R and the tcl/tk
window used to open instantly. Under the current version though, the window
take seconds to open: first it builds the base window, then the menus and

Return Value of TCl/Tk window in R
Hello,
I have the TCl/Tk command
"tkmessageBox(titel="",message="x",icon="question",type="okcancel")" in my R
script. Now I want to perform some operation in relation to the user's
choice, something like
"if (okpressed) xxx else yyy"
What values does this command give and how are they used?
Thank you, Richard

R/Tk from batch file
Dear R-help,
Reccently I've been working on sample size estimates for our forensic
scientists and have to make the work accessible to them, preferably
in some Windows based graphical form. The obvious choise was Tk via R,
so I now have a couple of very nice, user friendly front ends for
calculating betas and beta-binomials which run equally well under
Windows and other systems (same code -

seq.POSIXt() with short time intervals
I was surprised when seq.POSIXt() returned a single value rather than
a vector, from inputs that I thought were reasonable. Here's an
example to illustrate:
> t0 <- ISOdatetime(2002,6,24,0,0,10)
## expected a sequence of 16 times 1 second apart
> seq.POSIXt(from=t0,to=t0+15,by='1 sec')

tcl/tk
Hi all,
I am already using R under Window and would like now to try and install it
under Unix; I read I need tcl/tk installed so I connected to
http://www.scriptics.com downloaded the file and extracted them to a
directory tcltk beside R. I configured (./configure) both packages (tcl and
tk) and compiled (make) them but I am not sure about how to proceed now:
should I launch the command make

compilation options to get install.packages() to invoke tcl/tk
Hi UseRs,
I've just installed 2.10.0 on Ubuntu hardy, compiling from the tar.gz bundle.
install.packages() just says "Error in install.packages() : no
packages were specified"
The "normal" hardy 2.6.2 version pops up a tcl/tk menu for repositories.
I'm assuming I missed a configure option for tcl/tk, but the configure
script says that --with-tcltk is
the default.

Tcl/Tk on Panther
It used to be sufficient to configure R with
configure --enable-R-shlib
--with-tcl-config=/Library/Frameworks/Tcl.framework/tclConfig.sh
--with-tk-config=/Library/Frameworks/Tk.framework/tkConfig.sh
--with-blas='-framework vecLib' --with-lapack --with-aqua
but for some reason this does get Tcl/Tk support build in Panther
