FreeMIS Open Source Project - packaging advice needed
Hi. FreeMIS is about ready for a first release as a Ruby-on-Rails based application. I''m beginning to realise that there''s a lot of stuff to be installed before you can get even a WEBrick served version up and running: MySql, Ruby, ruby-mysql bindings, rubygems, rails, and a couple more gems - raspell (which needs aspell) and tzinfo. I''m trying to figure out the

Seeking Advice on Pattern for Multi-Organization Application
I am the developer of FreeMIS - an Open Source management information system for schools. It currently holds the data for one school - so different schools host different instances of FreeMIS. I would like to expand the domain of a single instance of FreeMIS, so that it covers all the schools in an education authority. THis will enable me to implement authority-wide functionality. Is there

Can BackgrounDrb help me?
I have a big report to produce from a Rails app that takes several minutes to put together. I hoped backgroundrb would be able to pull together all the ActiveRecord stuff in the background then throw it back to Rails for rendering. It seems, however, that I can''t pass an array of ActiveRecord objects from the worker back to Rails. Do I have that right? Another possibility was to do

Return only results that user is allowed to see?
Is it possible with acts_as_ferret to somehow restrict the results that are returned? For instance, I don''t want to return results that are logically deleted with acts_as_paranoid (deleted_at IS NOT NULL and deleted_at < now()). Also, if a user is not an Admin, they should not be able to return results that have a certain value in a certain column, like forum_id != 13 (if 13 is

Filtering results through URL (e.g. new?forum_id=3)
Is there a special code you have to place in the routes so filtering results through the URL works? For example, Ruby Forum does it with: http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/new?forum_id=3 http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/new?forum_id=5 http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/new?forum_id=7 etc. Any ideas? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You

CentOS LiveCD 5.3 release notes
I created both English and French release notes pages for the upcoming CentOS LiveCD 5.3: http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOSLiveCD5.3 http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOSLiveCD5.3/French The content is quite similar to the one from the CentOS LiveCD 5.2 except for these changes: - 5.2 -> 5.3 - file information (filename, size, md5sum, sha1sum) - some packages

R 4.0 for ARM processors
2 years ago at one Meetup in Paris, Marc Girondot, professor at University Paris-Saclay, presented his cluster built with 12 Odroid (equivalent to Rapsberry Pi). The stack was almost the same size than your picture as there was no fan and a narrower distance between each PCB card. There were many more cables. For a total cost of less than 1000 ? and an electrical consumption reduced by a

Spacewalk howto for CentOS 5
Hi, I would like to contribute a howto page about the configuration of Spacewalk for package management under CentOS 5. Spacewalk is the upstream project for the source of RedHat Network Satellite. It provides a management interface for software updates across registered servers and desktops. Here is were I would like to put this page: <http://www.redhat.com/red_hat_network/>

Changing swap resume signature location
At boot time, the system is looking for a resume signature on the default SWAP partition that was defined during the OS installation. On several systems, I changed the location of the SWAP partition. How do I change the location where the system looks at boot time for the resume signature? Thanks, -- Patrice Guay patrice.guay at nanotechnologies.qc.ca

Spacewalk Client Tools from Stahnma
Dear Patrice, I have noticed that you are referencing to the Stahnma repository for Spacewalk Client Tools. These are quite old and I would suggest to use the tools from: http://spacewalk.redhat.com/yum instead. Mr. Suchy already pushed some of the packages to Fedora/EPEL so they might be available there, soon. Besides that the Spacewalk Team is thinking about a split between client/server on

R-4.0.0 and Texlive 2020 installed on EmmabuntusDE4 (Debian Bullseye)
Hi Johannes, Thank you for your comments. I run sudo apt install -t bullseye-cran40 r-base and have now the current R-4.0.0 in /usr/lib/R with links in the menus and R-devel R-4.1.0 in ~/patrice/svn/R/r-devel/build. Perfect. I used sid just to get the full Texlive 2020. I will probably not update it for a while and have already removed (commented) the sid line in sources.list as I do not

semi-on topic -- textmate question
Apologies in advance. I have been using textmate and am getting to like it more and more. The feature that is turning my crank and frothing my coffee right now is "snippets". Wow! Is this ever cool! And if you aren''t using Textmate, give it a try. Anyhow, my snippets are saving me so much time and so utterly wonderful that like other things in my life that are in
