Error in X11

This is more a linux question, but I have asked in some Linux
conferences with no success.
I am running 1.2.1 in Mandrake 7.2.Trying to run the graphics demo
produces axes, but no lines and I get an error message:

obvious answer
I apologise for this question, as I'm sure the answer has got to be
obvious, but I am trying to follow the John Maindonald tutorial and have
stumbled at the first page.
I have sussed out that I need to use the source command rather than the
read.table command as illustrated in the tutorial, but the data isn't
reading in properly with additional names at the beginning and end of the

Post hoc tests
This is only partly an R question, but this seems a good place to ask.
Like many, if not most, statistics programs, R has no post hoc tests
for Kruskal Wallis or Friedman, and as far as I can make out they are
not available in any of the R packages. I would be grateful if someone
could point me in the right direction if I am wrong.
As I said this is not uncommon. Parametric Anova procedures

pasting results into Word/Excel
Is there some clever way of pasting results from R into Excel or Word, as
tab limited format so they are easy to turn into a formatted table.
Or is there some other way of doing this to avoid the time spent
reformatting the output for presentation.
If different, I am also interested in an answer to the same question but
using S-Plus.
Many thanks,
Graham

Preparing data frame for Plotrix kiteChart
Although, I can fix this, I am trying to sort out something as

par(new=T) works differently in pdf vs postscript if applied before a plot statement. (PR#4037)
If I place par(new=T) before I create a plot in a script that is sent to a pdf
device, the pdf is unopenable and reports itself as having no pages. The
postscript device seems to ignore the par instruction.
I guess one of these is a bug, but I don't know which one!

EuroLLVM will be a very good occasion to hear all the opinions and reach consensus on the approach.

Scalable Vector Types in IR - Next Steps?
Agreed with both!
Furthermore, any temporary solution will have to be very similar to what we
expect to see natively, or the transition to native may never happen.

OT Gmane and r-help moderator approval
I have started to read r-help on Gmane using Thunderbird as a reader.
Before that I had messages sent to gmail account.
The first post through Gmane needed moderator approval, but then I got a
message from
Your friendly autoauthorizer at Gmane.org
saying
You are now authorized to post to the

But my messages are still needing moderator approval, which I

[RFC] Enable Partial Inliner by default
Hi Graham,
Thank you for offering help. I am trying to create a reproducer. The problem is that the crashes happen whilst LTO is used. One thing I am sure about IR is broken at compile time.
Thanks,
Evgeny

Odd tcltk and Rattle interference on MS/Windows
Hi Graham,
Your guess is right. The event loop stuff is handled differently on Windows
than on Unix-like OSes. There is a hook, called tcl_do that is hard-coded
into the R Windows GUI. It is called whenever the console is idle. RGtk2 is
able to hook into that to process GTK+ events. The problem is that the two
packages replace each other's handler. So in this case tcltk is blocking

I just realized that if these are compile-time errors I can help
investigate on my end. Do you have something I can use to reproduce?
