AW: running Rcmd INSTALL, again
Indeed, there is no file named "dlltool" anywhere around here! So, at last I am beginning to suspect that my collection of tools is incomplete. What I have got is "rw1020sp.zip" and "http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/bdr/RWin/tools.zip". These are properly istalled, I think. readme.packages says "If your package has no C nor Fortran nor C++ sources, see `Simple

AW: ISOdate() and strptime()
Thanks for this clarification. I have learned in the meantime that it is necessary to be very careful when using all these POSIX things. As another example, here is something that made me scratch my head just yesterday: When I create a sequence of days that happens to start before and ends in daylight savings time, I seem to lose a day: > seq(from = strptime("20030329",

running Rcmd INSTALL (creating help files revisited)
It is embarrassing, but I just can't get "Rcmd INSTALL" to work. I'm using R1.2.0 under Windows NT4.0, and what I do is open a commands window (cmd.exe) in directory "D:\", and then try the following: ----- REM this is how my PATH is set: D:\>set path = %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\system32\nls\DEUTSC H;d:\PROGRA~1\pfe;

dotplot: character size of labels (PR#816)
There seems to be a bug in "dotplot" concerning the "cex" parameter. Setting cex has no effect on the character size of the labels of the points. This problem was posted to r-help today (Thu, 18 Jan 2001); the solution given by Brian Ripley (and Uwe Ligges) seems to work for me. Heinrich Rinner. > version _ platform i386-pc-mingw32 arch x86

Status of "Official" Win Binaries for 1.4.0
Hello Everyone, Just a note to inquire about the status of the "official" RWin release. I downloaded the binaries from CRAN using the link provided by Guido Masarotto <http://sirio.stat.unipd.it/RWin> soon after they appeared on CRAN. However, following R help, it seems that there are some problems with that compilation, particularly related to GRID and Lattice. Sure enough, I

Rterm on Windows 2000 now works.
Guido has fixed Rterm hanging on Windows 2000 in interactive and --ess modes. The problem was that 'PulseEvent' doesn't work under 2000 as documented (and I can find nothing about this in MicroSoft's Knowledge Base except that it is known to happen under a debugger). The cross-compiled pre-release at http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/bdr/RWin/Rpre now incoporates the fix, and we

RFC: help systems on Windows
To: Windows Users ----------------- We would appreciate your comments on future possibilities for help on Windows systems. how to create help files
Dear R users, this is a question for R version 1.2.0 under Windows NT 4.0, regarding the documentation of ones own functions. I have ceated a private library for my functions, which works all very well, apart from that I am not able to create appropriate help files. For illustration, here is a simple example of where I'm stuck: > # first, create a simple function f1: > f1 <-

Problem about Rconsole: R for Windows Version 1.5.0 Patched (2002-06-05 and 2002-06-12)
R (Windows version) users/developers: While I have checked R-help/-devel mailing lists and R-bug-tracking system, this problem has not been reported so far. I would like to know whether this problem is specific to my machine. Lately I downloaded the version 1.5.0 patched [for windows] from http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/bdr/RWin/Rpre/ [patched: 2002-06-05] and

data mining: finding association rules
Dear R-users! I would like to search for "association rules" (and compute support and confidence, for example) in a data set, and wonder if this can be done with R (version 1.5.0 for Windows)? Particulary, I wonder if a) anyone has done something like that with R or b)maybe someone has written an R-interface to some existing algorithm/software (e.g. to something like the

number of patients in a hospital on a given date
Dear R-users! I am using R 1.7.0, under Windows XP. Having some hospital discharge data (admission date and discharge date for each patient), I want to get the number of patients in the hospital on a given date. My data look like (simple example): > x <- data.frame(patid=c("pat1", "pat2"), adm.date = c("15.03.2002", "16.03.2002"),

SUMMARY and follow up question: organizing work; dump function
Thanks very much to Friedrich Leisch, Brian Ripley and Thomas Lumley for their useful answers. Basically, they all suggested creation of a personal package as the easiest and best way to hold ones own functions. This indeed is quite easy and very useful. In addition, Friedrich Leisch pointed out that he's planning to add an "append" argument to the dump() function. One follow up

Preview of rw1030
I've put up at http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/bdr/RWin/SetupR.exe a (15Mb) `release candidate' of rw1030. It's a snapshot of the complete release but not everything (especially the recommended packages) is in final form. I would particularly be interested in feedback on two points: 1) The claim is that utilities like Rcmd check now work on 16-bit versions of Windows. Certainly
