R-GUI 1.1.0
Hi there, I've just downloaded R 1.1.0 for Windows 98. I don't know if some weird problem occurred in the installation or it is some bug in the GUI version, but somehow the "up-arrow" key does not work! In other words, if I type some commands, I cannot use the up-arrow key to browse the previous commands typed (can do this in the previous R version)! Thanks, --------------

Dear All: I do see I have weeks of codes in my console when I check with my arrow up keys. I have been clearing them with Control L but it seems to clear it clear the screen temporally. I do see the previous codes again when I open R the next day, after quitting the session! Q: How do I clear this? Thanks; YA -- View this message in context:

R for MacOSX - History and command line problems
Hi! I have the following issues using "R for Mac OS X 2.2.1" (from the ppc-.dmg) on a Mac OS X 10.4.5: 1) The command history is never saved (automatically) to .Rhistory. (The file stays empty.) 2) If I save a history to some file via the "Save History" button, and I load it afterwards via "Load History", only the first entry of the saved History appears in

readline doesn't work even thou cled=TRUE
Can anyone offer suggestion about getting readline to work on Solaris? (v1.5.1) When I use the up arrow or ctrl-p to try to repeat the last command my session just beeps. It appears that the .Rhistory file that should appear in my startup directory is not being created. Thanks! The screen shot below shows cled=TRUE and no .Rhistory file created: $ /apps/R-1.5.1/bin/R R : Copyright 2002, The

Up-arrow on rw1010
A quick summary. The reported problem appears to be with (some) previous histories. If you find that neither up arrow nor ctrl-P work in the Rgui console, please delete .Rhistory and try again. We don't know the exact cause, and nothing I can think of can reproduce this. I have no problem taking histories made with rw1001 and reading them in rw1010 and vice versa. If the .Rhistory is really

Loadhistory problems
History files saved using nFile Save History do not open when using File Load History. I notice that when they are saved they do not seem to have a file extension and there is no option to chose an extension. Is this a problem. Other than this it seems so simple that I can't see what the problem is. I've tried using loadhistory and savehistory with the same problems. The syntax guide

questions please
Hi there, I am quite new to R and I would like to ask two questions: * is it possible to cancel the memory of the arrow up command? * I am running a glm to model animal abundance relating it to research effort and other variables. I have 10 years of data and I am treating year as a factor, R is comparing each year with the first year my data sheet, while I would like to compare each

How to save and restore a workspace
Saving your workspace means that the variables you currently have defined in your session [ everything that shows up when you type ls() ] are saved to a file, by default named ?.RData?. To restore the workspace, you use the ?Load Workspace? command and navigate to the (same) .RData file. Its default location for Windows, as far as I know, is your ?Documents? folder. So look there. I see that you

Length of a string
Hi, Suppose I have created something like this in R: foo <- "myfoo" and I want to find out the number of character in foo (in other words, R should return 5 since "myfoo" has 5 charactors. How can I do it? I tried: length(foo) but it returned 1. Cheers, Kevin ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ko-Kang Kevin Wang

conf. int. for lm() and Up-arrow
Dear all, Is there any function for calculating confidence limits for coefficients in an lm() object? I know of the confint() function in the MASS library working very well on my binomial GLMs and I have tried it (using glm () , family=gaussian) but it gives NAs according to below. Does the confint() function not accept gaussian GLMs? Could there be convergence problems in the GLM? Note the

select text using only the keyboard
I am using R 1.6.1 on Windows. I usually write/edit code in the R console, and when I get it working right, copy and paste it to a text file for later use. In Splus for Windows, this could be done easily using just the keyboard, with up-arrow, shift-end or shift-home, ctrl-c, etc. But in R, the shift key doesn't select text. The only way I can select text in R is with the mouse. Does

character vectors not wrapping
A character vector with a single component consisting of a long string gets truncated with $ on the right side of the R console window. The preceding sentence, for example, assigned to 'test' by cut and paste, renders like this (window maximized, 17" monitor, 800x600, if this matters): [1] "A character vector with a single component consisting of a long string gets truncated

Data Checking
Hi, This is a simple question with if elseif....however I am having trouble constructing the solution for some reason. Suppose I have a data set with 3 variables, a, b and c say. Let's say c is the sum of a and b. So: a b c 1 2 3 2 3 5 3 4 7 . . . . . . . . . Suppose that I know there have been some data entry errors and I want to check if ALL values in c is

Loop Delaying
Hi there, I know this question may sounds strange, but here it goes: Is it possible to delay the speed of a for loop? For example, if I have: for (i in 1:100) { blah blah blah } within the for loop I want to draw a series of plots, and combining the plots together I'll have an animation. Problem is the loop is too fast and I only see the end result (which is not surprising actually).

Strange scroll behavior of Auto Complete inside Active Scaffold.
Hi Everyone. After a long weekend of testing some stuff out I finally got the auto suggest working. I have got a problem however in both IE and Firefox as the drop down scrolls the page down to the element only when the up arrow is pressed. Here is a detailed example. When I have <%= text_field_with_auto_complete :product, :colour %> in my product _form.rhtml override... ... and in my
