problem building dvi and pdf documentation on Darwin 10.2.6
I just installed R-1.7.0 on Darwin 6.6 (a.k.a. MacOS 10.2.6).
'make' and 'make check' run without any problems. 'make info'
builds with no complaints, but 'make dvi' and 'make pdf' fail.
I get refman.dvi and refman.pdf OK (with some warnings from
pdftex that some names are referenced that do not exist), but
R-FAQ.{dvi,pdf} fails as shown below. Attempts

compiling R-devel
Hello.
I am in a habit of compiling daily snapshots of R-devel and R-patched on my
Windows XP workstation. I have cygwin environment with up-to-date RTools
and MiKTeX. I run cygwin and MiKTeX upadaters pretty often (every couple
of days) so both of them are reasonably current.
Recently I noticed a small annoyance when compiling R-dvel. It started
happening right after I updated to the new

R-exts.texi in SVN version 36380
G'day all,
after issuing `svn up' on my machine this morning, I noticed that
`make info' choked on R-exts.texi. Below is a patch that seems to
solve the problem. BTW, while `make info' runs now, I still get the
following warning:
/usr/bin/makeinfo --enable-encoding -D UseExternalXrefs -I/opt/src/R-devel-src/doc/manual /opt/src/R-devel-src/doc/manual/R-exts.texi

Building manuals are failing now that MikTex 2.9 has removed texi2dvi.exe
According to the MikTex bug reports [1], MikTex 2.9 has removed
texi2dvi.exe last week (on 2015-09-29) as "it was not compatible
(anymore) with the original shell script texi2dvi (GNU Texinfo)." I
found this out the hard way as I just (unknowingly) updated MikTex
this evening, and then, while building R-devel_2015-10-08 on Windows7
64bit using the Rtools 3.3 toolchain (4.9.3 branch), had

r-base build: failure to convert R-FAQ to pdf
We have received an email in Ubuntu alerting us that something strange was
going on during the r-base 2.7.1 rc build (see [1]).
It seems that there is an error during the convertion of R-FAQ.texi to pdf.
The following excerpt, taken from [2], shows the problem:
/bin/sh: line 0: test: too many arguments

R installation
I've decided to install in R in a directory other than /usr/local, but
I'm having difficulty in setting the correct paths, i.e. PATH or path.
I've set my R_HOME, and sure enough there's a bin and lib directory
there but R just won't execute (something like GUI 'X11' is not
supported. However when R is installed in /usr/local then everything is
OK...Any help or comments

PPC package-ppc.read.raw.nobatch (PR#8316)
Full_Name: Martin O'Gorman
Version:

Submission from: (NULL) (84.176.63.149)
I have been looking at the PPC package and have a question. As the input data is
comma separated, shouldn?t the command to read in the raw (no batch) mass spec
data indicate that sep=?,? (marked below) ? Otherwise, the data read in is the
pair of values (m/z,intensity). It is not obvious why that should be.

Building manuals are failing now that MikTex 2.9 has removed texi2dvi.exe
Hmm, look in MkRules.dist for the setting you failed to make ....
Obviously available in R-patched and R-devel only as we cannot foretell
such changes.

venneuler() - customize a few things
Hi,
I was wondering if it would be possible to print the counts of common
items in the venneuler() diagrams.
Anybody knows a straightforward idea?
I can always count things from the data matrix, but I have vectors with
50 thousands elements.
thanks

adjusting survival using coxph
I have what I *think* should be a simple problem in R, and hope
someone might be able to help me.
I'm working with cancer survival data, and would like to calculate
adjusted survival figures based on the age of the patient and the
tumour classification. A friendly statistician told me I should use
Cox proportional hazards to do this, and I've made some progress with
using the

cosine and sine
Excuse me if this is has been discussed before, but,
How can I make the cos(pi/2) = 0 (instead of on my machine 6.123234e-17)
and the sin(pi) = 0 (instead of 1.224647e-16 on my machine) ?
I'd like sin(pi) == 0 to return TRUE, and is zapsmall appropriate here?

missing permissions in reference manual copyright page (PR#3528)
Hi,
I noticed that the R reference manual seems to be missing the license
permissions on the copyright page. Below is a patch to "refman.top"
which adds the same permissions as the @permission{} macro in
"R-defs.texi".
I'm filing this bug as I have been preparing to publish the R
Reference Manual (in several volumes). I plan to donate 5 EUR to the
R-foundation for each

Problem when making refman.pdf on WinXP (R 1.7.1)
Dear R-help,
Can some one tell me what could be the problem? I downloaded the R-1.7.1
source and try to compile it on WinXP. "make", "make bitmapdll", "make
tcl", "make recommended" all ran w/o problem. However, when I ran "make
docs", it failed at creating refman.pdf, with no apparent error that I could
see. I have attached the log file

After configure, make and make check on
a linux Suse 7.3 box, I run
make dvi and make info with no problems but get
a lot of garbage to my screen during make pdf.
Is this normal? Is there a bug in this part
of the installation?
This is part of what I get on the screen:
