Man pages for Linux distributions
Given that R is being written under the GNU GPL, a corollary process would
be sufficient documentation of R (in packaged distributions) that explains
HOW-TO install, use, and extend R. An example of documentation that is
extensive is Perl which has documentation under the MAN pages in Unix,Linux as
well as in POD (Plain Old Documents) files.
The key to R advocacy is documentation. As

Missing functions in package e1071(Win*)
Hi!
After unziping the CRAN file e1071.zip
on my Win95 library directory, I start R and
type
>library(e1071)
After that, help commands of the e1071
functions work (i.e., help(read.pnm), BUT
some functions themselves are not available:
> read.pnm
Error: Object "read.pnm" not found
I've looked at the file library/R/e1071 with
an ascii editor and it seems like the functions

Shall we release 3.0.1?
Hi everybody!
At least xen 3.0 packages seem to be working, tested, and in a pretty good
shape... (I haven't personally tested xen-unstable, so I cannot say) I propose
releasing rev150 in unstable or at least experimental in the next few days...
No, this is not a late april's fool... :D
Comments? Ideas? Suggestions? Rants?

Xen reboots on dom-U disk stress...
Hi all
I tried to run bonnie++ disk stresser in dom-U, who''s disk is backed
with non-local (on nfs) loop-back file.
The machine rebooted pretty quickly.
So, how do I tell what''s barfing? Is it Xen? Is it dom-0 (nfs or loop-back)?
I looked in dom-0''s /var/log/messages and didn''t see any obvious record
of a dom-0 whoopsie (but is that the right place to look

Predicting complicated GAMMs on response scale
Hi,
I am using GAMMs to show a relationship of temperature differential over
time with a model that looks like this:-
gamm(Diff~s(DaysPT)+AirToC,method="REML")
where DaysPT is time in days since injury and Diff is repeat measures of
temperature differentials with regards to injury sites compared to
non-injured sites in individuals over the course of 0-24 days. I use the

Musical OCR - MSGBOX_OnInit task modal msgbox !...
Hi,
I'm trying to use SharpEye2 under Wine: that is a Musical Optical
Recognition (musical OCR) program, getting a scanned image and
outputting a digital score - look at http://www.visiv.co.uk.
It is probably the best such program among the few existing ones and the
only thing I miss from Windows.
Anyway, the installation goes perfectly, but when I try to run it, a
window appears saying

SLES kernel update
Hello CFS,
I was wondering if the new SLES10 kernel will be part of the 1.6.4
release. It appears to be tracked by:
https://bugzilla.lustre.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13874
As this contains a major security fix (privilege escalation), it is a
mandatory upgrade in many places and it would be nice to not have to
roll our own kernel.
Thanks,

Wine and Skype
I am currently running Skype version 1.3 on a Linux Mandriva 2006
system. It works well, but the Windows version is really superior,
supporting several interesting features missing from the Linux version.
So I tried to use wine for that. I am not familiar with wine (never
need Windows programs, really) and I tried to use what had been
installed by Mandriva.
Testing wine, it's all right with

R-alpha: naming convention for index files
In the process of moving to the new directory structure, we might also
reconsider the naming of the various index files.
A simple idea would be to have an `INDEX' file in each directory where
this is appropriate. E.g., we could have
pkg/funs/INDEX (rather than help/pkg/INDEX)
pkg/data/INDEX (rather than index.doc)
pkg/help/INDEX (rather than AnIndex)
or e.g.
pkg/INDEX.funs
