randomForest() segfaults under Solaris(SPARC) 2.7
Invocation of randomForest() using the iris example in the help file crashes R with a segmentation fault. This happens on all of our ultraSPARC machines running Solaris 2.7. We're using R-1.4.1, compiled using Sun cc and f77 and the flags: CC=cc CFLAGS="-xO5 -xlibmil -dalign" FC=f77 FFLAGS="-xO5 -xlibmil -dalign" "make check" runs withour errors, and R has been

R-beta: R binaries for NEXTSTEP (I386 and M68k) on CRAN
Binary distributions of R-0.49 for NEXTSTEP (Intel and M68k) are now available on CRAN: http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/R/bin/i386-nextstep/R.0.49.I.b.tar.gz http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/R/bin/m68k-nextstep/R.0.49.N.b.tar.gz Because NEXTSTEP doesn't support dynamic loading, I've compiled in a number of additional functions (mostly from the user contributed section of CRAN) which I find

EPS
Perhaps this has been mentioned and I wasn't paying attention. When I try to import a postscript file (which is EPS according to the R help on postscript) my Framemaker filter chokes. If I simply edit the first line of the file to put %!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0 rather than %!PS-Adobe-3.0 it works just fine. It sure would be simpler if the postscipt driver put this in the file. compiling 1.5.0 under Solaris 2.7 with Sun C and FORTRAN and gcc C++
For disk space reasons, I have the Sun FORTRAN and C comiplers available, but not C++. In the past, I have successfully built R using these compliers along with the C++ provided by gcc. Now, the configure script in 1.5.0 fails with the following errors: checking how to get verbose linking output from f77... -v checking for Fortran 77 libraries... -L/usr/local/lib -R/opt/SUNWspro/lib

R-beta: Latex and R
Hello R users, This question might be already discussed before, I apologize if it is the case. Simple... how can I do to include a figure in a latex document. As I have already done in Splus, I tried this: \begin{figure} \special{psfile=gauss.ps .......} \end{figure} but it didn't work. Any help? Thank you in advance. PS: I let down the Mac and the MS Window platforms and I am back to my

R-beta: postscript in R and R
I am creating postscript-graphics in R. When I import them into a LATEX document it is impossible to get the caption close to the figure. I run the same program in Splus, and no problem of getting the caption just below the figure. Another thing, the ps file that S created is only 10% of the size of the file that R created. What is wrong? Are there some parameters to be set? Helgi

Converting from encapsulated postscript to encapsulated pdf
I have several old encapsulated postscript graphics generated by R that I want to include in a LaTeX Beamer presentation so I want them in pdf. Under Ubuntu linux typing convert z.eps z.pdf (to use ImageMagick) results in a nice looking graphic but the bounding box is lost. Doing convert z.eps z.epdf results in a fuzzy image with a good bounding box. Does anyone have a nice solution?

postscript bug? (PR#9803)
postscript() produces files that are not encoded as eps, according to the standard. Hence, word processors such as OpenOffice and AbiWord do not recognise the files as eps. See http://www.postscript.org/FAQs/language/node80.html The problem is in the first line of the postscript file: The header is wrong. It should be: %!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0 whereas postscript() produces: %!PS-Adobe-3.0 The

Are the following differences in table() output between versions 1.3.0 and 1.3.1 a feature, a bug or a problem with my implementation? SUMMARY: EPS->LaTeX problem
Earlier today I posted a problem importing an R graph into a LaTeX file of seminar class: specifically, the graphic was showing up rotated 180 degrees, along with the rest of the page it was on. In a real victory for open-source software, I got lots of responses with three distinct approaches, each of which appears to solve the problem. Problem making the manuals (make dvi and make pdf)
Dear all, I am trying to compile and install R from sources on Ubuntu GNU/Linux 64 bit. It usually worked flawlessly for me for more than 4 years (32bit and 64bit on Mandrake/Mandriva, Suse, Debian, Ubuntu). However, I am experiencing some problems now -- not during compiling and installing R itself but with the manuals. Maybe someone can help me with it? I tried to find some information in the

bitmap copies of plots
Michael Lapsley was suggesting on R-help direct copies to gif/png/jpeg. The following seems to do a sensible job for me of copying the current device to any bitmap format supported by gs. The manipulation is needed to work around assumptions made by postscript(), and I think better fixed in postscript() (but not a couple of days before a release). I want to make onefile=FALSE work on

eps file not positioned properly in latex document
Dear People, I am trying to include a barplot (see code below), in a latex document. However, the plot appears in totally the wrong position. I know this is not an R question as such, but the eps file is produced by R and I thought that perhaps other people had had similar problems and could give me pointers. Am I doing anything obviously wrong? Sincerely, Faheem Mitha. PS.

Running LaTeX dvi previewer on MacOS X
Several people have given great advice on how to successfully use X11 on Mac to so we can use the dvi previewer to view latex() output from Hmisc. Now after a version upgrade of X11 and X11sdk we are getting lots of crashes. I noticed a Mac dvi previewer with an executable stored as /Applications/TeX/TeXShop.app/Contents/MacOS/TeXShop Can we bypass X11 problems and point Hmisc to this
