building rpy against lenny-cran
Hi. On all of my machines, except for a netbook cursed with the GMA500 chipset, the R packages are synced to lenny-cran. I have been using rpy in a chroot using the official lenny R packages (2.7.1) given that i have not been able to find compatible rpy deb packages to work with lenny-cran. I am able to build the rpy deb package from source in a 32-bit lenny chroot (with the stock R packages)

Backport of R 2.9.0 to lenny
Dear all, I am happy to announce the availability of the current R version to Debian lenny (stable) and etch (oldstable) on CRAN. I am happy to announce Piet Plomb who has taken responsibility for the amd64 packages for lenny this time. This time around, we have not done rpy and rkward. It would be interesting to know if there is any interest in these backports, as I personally don't use

Re : Install latest R version from apt on Lenny
OK, thanks both. I'll try that. I suspect (very strongly) that it comes from the fact that I did not replace the cran mirror line by an actulal cran mirror URLs... I will give a look at all my backports this weekend and do a little cleaning too! thanks,   David Biau.   ################################# From: Johannes Ranke <jranke@uni-bremen.de> To: r-sig-debian@r-project.org

Help for sources.list
Greetings! I would be very grateful if someone could supply a suitable line to enter into /etc/apt/sources.list for the benefit of a complete dummy user (i.e. me -- I do not want to have to do any interpretation, guesswork, reading of docs, etc.; I want to just copy it in). The machine in question is an Intel laptop, wuth Debian Lenny (according to the Debian website the current stable version as

Plugins for R and more...
Hello! I saw this discussion regarding vim plugin for R and just wonder if there exists something similar for Gedit. I use Debian and I really like Gedit. I know a lot of plugins but not for R. Another thing is a bit stupid cause I know there has been discussion about repositories for R. I recently converted a friend from Windows to Debian and he is confused should he use: deb

fluxbox, ess and redrawing r windows
Hi, I'm running Lenny with Fluxbox, interacting with R via Emacs + ESS. An ongoing aggravation with this setup is trying to get R graphics windows redrawn. For example, I may have 8 or 10 R graphics windows open, and I switch between them using Alt-tab. The problem is, sometimes the windows remain blank. Sometimes I can get the display back by moving the window with the mouse, or switching

apt-get update: GPG error from cran.R-project.org
I recently was forced to do a dist-upgrade and rebuild my kernel, so a lot has changed on my system, and I don't know if that is related to the errors & warnings I get from apt-get update. Any ideas? thanks -Michael euclid:~# apt-get update Get: 1 http://debian.yorku.ca stable Release.gpg [378B] Get: 2 http://debian.yorku.ca stable/updates Release.gpg [189B] Get: 3

2 lme questions
Greetings, 1) Is there a nice way of extracting the variance estimates from an lme fit? They don't seem to be part of the lme object. 2) In a series of simulations, I am finding that with ML fitting one of my random effect variances is sometimes being estimated as essentially zero with massive CI instead of the finite value it should have, whilst using REML I get the expected value. I guess

Very general question about Debian...
Hello ALL! First, I apologize for sending question that spill-out from the scope of this list. However, you might be essentially the best informants. In brief, I am thinking to give second shot to the Debian. Currently I am using Ubuntu 9.04, but Debian still teases me, so to say. I used to use Debian testing (Lenny at that time), but when Lenny became stable, things became very shaky in

Cross compile R for ARM target
Hi Johannes, Thank you for your quick feddback. As I am using linux os build with buildroot on my raspberry pi I can't use package manager such as apt-get to install R. What I need to do is to get the precompiled R for arm arch and then when I build my linux image using buildroot I include the R precompiled package to my rootfs. Could you please send me a link where I can download

SemPlot install fails
Hey there, I'm new to Linux and to R and trying to install SemPlot. When i enter install.packages (c("SemPlot")) R starts installing but suddenly there are a lot of error warnings. After the process ends, i get warning messages: 1: In install.packages(c("semPlot")) : installation of package ?stringr? had non-zero exit status 2: In

Outdated r-base-core when installing on Ubuntu 14.04
Ok, first I poked around the ubuntu tablet and related PPAs to see if I could find one with an ARM port of R, but no luck. Next I tried a debian install - jessie is supported on Crouton and it installs and runs basically without a hitch. But I run into the same problem installing R - using only a cran debian source and none of Rutter's PPAs. Now r-base-core is only available up to 3.1.1-1.

(PR#8877) predict.lm does not have a weights argument for newdata
Dear R developers, I am a little disappointed that my bug report only made it to the wishlist, with the argument: Well, it does not say it has. Only relevant to prediction intervals. predict.lm does calculate prediction intervals for linear models from weighted regression, so they should be correct, right? As far as I can see they are bound to be wrong in almost all cases, if no weights

R 2.6.1
R 2.6.1 is on its way to Debian unstable. I removed the references to gcc-4.2, so backporting should be easier. One thing I lfet in was the shlibs.local which will make R depend on tk8.4 newer than what testing and Ubuntu have, so Johannes and Vincent may need to remove the file. Debian testing users cannot run the unstable binaries as libc6 is ahead on unstable. We'll have to wait for libc6,

plans for lenny-cran? can I help?
Hi, I'm running a highschool network with Debian etch and the etch-cran "backports" on top of it. Being bio-informatics, the newest R is essential to us. I did some upgrading experiments; switching to ubuntu is not an option, neither is fetching the sid debs for r. When trying to upgrade from etch to lenny with etch-cran packages installed things block on etch-cran dependencies.

Bug#618576: xen-3.2-1: VNC display over HVM XEN 3/Lenny AMD64, displays a blank screen when Debian-Installer Squeeze AMD64 is running on it
Package: xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-amd64 Version: 3.2.1-2 Severity: important I've a Debian Lenny AMD64 as production server, where it has important HVMs that runs correctly. The problem occurs when i try to create a HVM from a Debian Squeeze AMD64 iso file. At first, the VNC display specified shows perfectly the Debian Installer menu, but when I choose an option (Install or Graphical Install),
