Redirect without port number?
On my host I run my lighttpd instance bound to a specific port and my
hostname is mapped to this port (I''m not exactly sure how this is
accomplished, but it is lighttpd also listening on port 80 which handles
this for me I believe).
A redirect from rails includes my local port number in the request, so that
it shows up in the address bar. I prefer people not to see this - I

Syncpeople Plugin Scope Never Active
I installed the Syncpeople textmate bundle (
http://syncpeople.com/downloads/syncpeople_on_rails_features ) and the
commands all work from the menu, but the short-cuts never work for any
of the snippets or commands ever work, because the scopes are not
being selected properly. If I change the scope to just "source.ruby"
it will work fine. But I cannot see why their scope selectors do not

Best way to organize non-controller logic???
I don''t want to put certain code in my controller because I think it
makes things more confusing.
What is the best way to manage business logic such that it doesn''t end
up in the controller?
Basically, where should I put my regular utility classes and backing
objects that may not be models?
Thanks,
Wes

Fixtures, Postgres & Constraints
Anyone have any tips for handling postgres constraints when using
fixtures to load the database, other than to sort out the proper
insertion orders or leaving the constraints out? I''d prefer not to do
the former since I''d rather use my app to generate my fixture data
(using a dump_fixtures task) and I''d prefer not to do the latter
because leaving out constraints till the

Rails in Dr. Dobbs Journal ?
Hi,
I''ve read that Dr. Dobbs Journal''s last issue has a cover article about
Rails titled "Ruby On Rails - Java''s Successor?". Can''t find anything
about it in http://www.ddj.com
Does someone have the paper edition and can confirm that, and tell
how the article looks like, and so on.
Thanks,

Distribute Rails app. without source code
I have a commercial software that I?d like to completely re-do in Ruby
on Rails, as a web application on Apache. But I don?t want to distribute
it with the source code. Is there any way to install/deploy and Ruby on
Rails application without the source code?
Thanks in advance,

How to write manage created_on and created_by via mixin?
Hi!
Definite newbie here - I''m working through this like-hate relationship with
Ruby and Rails right now... sometimes things work really well (like blobs
seem to rock) but other times, I dunno! :-)
Anyway, I''d like put in create and update user timestamps on all my primary
domain tables and allow them to be updated automatically by ActiveRecord.
Coming from Hibernate, I just

One to Many Relationship Issues
Hi,
I am having issues with a one to many relationship(it never works :-)).
Jokes aside, I am getting an error:
Mysql::Error: #23000Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key
constraint fails: INSERT INTO adverts (`image_url`, `price`, `title`,
`website_url`, `description`, `user_id`) VALUES(''bb'', 22.0, ''aa'',

Macbook for Rails Development
Hi All,
I''ve finally got fed up of struggling with Windows and am on the verge
of splashing out on a Macbook for Ruby/Rails development. I''ve seen
DHH''s post about it on loudthinking but I wondered if anyone else has
any more wisdom...
Is it worth it over a powerbook? Any tips on good OSX apps for Rails
dev (textmate, i know already)? Anything not working well on

design question
Hi,
I''m developing a budget planner for myself and do have a table for recurring
expenses, as well as a transaction table for my bank account CSV file
uploads.
Questions: For the projections forward in time I''m wonder whether to:
(a) keep it simple and just calculate future balance projections on the fly,
then feed to gruff graphs
(b) each time a recurring item changes, or

Ruby server infrastructure evolution -> app. servers?
All,
Just musing about this whole FastCGI thing (that I hadn''t even thought
of since 1999 when looking at OpenMarket for a customer and even then it
was "old"), and wondering when we might see projects/products that
attempt to provide Ruby application services in a J2EE-like container.
I see the Cerise project - any interesting information on that?
I''m assuming

combining two models in one controller/view "set"
I''m going to take another stab at this question (my first one received
no replies):
I have two models:
Author
has_many: books
Book
has_one: author
I have two tables:
authors
id
...
books
id
author_id
...
I let the scaffolding fly and it created the CRUD goodness for each
model, as expected.
However, I want to have only one view/controller "set" for both
models; when I

Runt Recurring events
I am planning on using Runt to calculate recurring events. I
calculate a Runt object in the view and use it to see if it includes a
certain date, which is populates from the database, and display the
info for that date if it is included. I have recurring events for
every week, which was pretty easy to set up. I can just say:
r = Runt::DIWeek.new(4)
For a recurring event every Thursday, and

I''m trying to include the ''runt'' gem (http://runt.rubyforge.org/) in

"require ''runt''" in my environment.rb, and I''ve also tried using the

[PATCH v3] virtio_blk: unlock vblk->lock during kick
Holding the vblk->lock across kick causes poor scalability in SMP
guests. If one CPU is doing virtqueue kick and another CPU touches the
vblk->lock it will have to spin until virtqueue kick completes.
This patch reduces system% CPU utilization in SMP guests that are
running multithreaded I/O-bound workloads. The improvements are small
but show as iops and SMP are increased.
