Tip Sheet for AJAX
Hi all, I''m making an Amy Hoy style tip sheet PDF for the Prototype and Scriptaculous AJAX stuff, to be used with Rails. Are there other resources you would suggest besides the websites themselves (the previous thread about Highlight reminded me of this)? Is there a particular focus that would be helpful for such a document? Preferred fonts or colors? I must say, once you get

Not quite a rails question but can anyone advise?
Hey guys! I''m having a little trouble trying to integrate RMagick with my rails app. In the online terminal (on my host''s server) if I write: export "LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH" before opening the rails console then I can require "RMagick" no problem. Without adding usr/local/lib to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH I get the error message described

Addressing a class, rather than an id?
Good day, I''m trying to use the slider control to resize a pile of images on a web page. Clever, huh. Bet cha didn''t think of that one!!! :) But seriously. It seems I want to address a class, rather than the individual id''s of the images. At this point, I''m getting some results with something like this:

Problems installing Rmagick on Ubuntu
I want to install Rmagick on Ubuntu 7.10, but i am getting this error when running gem install rmagick: Can''t install RMagick 2.2.0. You must have ImageMagick 6.3.0 or later. (I installed imagemagick and libmagick9-dev prior to that) I installed rmagick through Synaptic, and it says that i have version 7:6.2.4.5.dfsg1-2ubuntu1 installed (by the way, what does the 7 mean?). Meta-question about the list
Question about the list in general: by default, it''s set up so that replies go to the sender, rather than the list. However, on other lists I usually chat on, replies by default generally go to the list. This seems to encourage more discussion. Would it be a good idea to change that default? Or am I just crazy. RMagick problems
I read the 13th recipe in the book "Rails Recipes" from Chad Fowler. I install with gem the gruff-library (gem install gruff). After the installation, I download the "rmagick-win32-1.13.0_IM-6.2.9-3.zip" file and install it on my win32-machine. It was successfully! So, I create a controller with script/generate. In a method, which I wrote after the creation, I''ll make

Setting env vars from within a Rails app?
Greetings! I''m trying to set an environment variable in Rails. Why? I can''t use RMagick unless I do so. I can do it from the shell, run irb, and then require ''RMagick'' works. So far so good. But how can I do this from my application? I''m on a shared host so I''ve put in a ticket to have something like this added to httpd.conf: SetEnv

ImageMagick/Rmagick replacement?
Hi, everyone! I have been recently hit by ImageMagick/Rmagick memory leak issues. I know I can lesson the problem by manually starting up GC each time I use Rmagick library but ImageMagick seems to use way too much memory nevertheless. (on shared hosting setup anyway) Is there a decent replacement for ImageMagick library? I used to think ImageMagick was quite efficient because its

Central list of Rails gems?
Is there a centralized list of Rails gems somewhere? Can''t use Gruff with Rails
Hello list, I''m having a problem getting Gruff working with Rails on a Windows XP box. I installed RMagick, then Gruff via the win32 gem, and it seemed to go OK. From irb, I can do the following - require ''rubygems'' ##### This returns ''false'', but seems to work OK - require ''gruff'' ####### Ditto - g = Gruff::Bar.new etc., and I get

FTP hangs Rails!
Hi! I''m running a Rails app on Apache/FCGI, with a single handler process on the server. At one point my application needs to FTP a bunch of files to a remote server. When it starts doing this, the server apparently freezes and doesn''t allow anyone else to do anything. Plus, after about twenty seconds, my nice status page vanishes from the browser, even though the

Are shared libraries being loaded in some other context?
I have come across an oddity and wanted to ask if anyone else has looked into this. 1) I have a locally installed gem: RMagick. 2) It loads and works just fine from script/console when I have LD_LIBRARY_PATH and GEM_PATH set in the shell. However, in the live environment it just does not want to play nicely. I have both LD_LIBRARY_PATH and GEM_PATH set in environment.rb and echo those values
