Question about the list in general: by default, it''s set up so that replies go to the sender, rather than the list. However, on other lists I usually chat on, replies by default generally go to the list. This seems to encourage more discussion. Would it be a good idea to change that default? Or am I just crazy. If you hit reply to all it puts the list name in there. That is strange too. It''s like the reply-to is not getting set right. It works fine on the normal rails list so it''s probably a Mailman configuration issue. //jarkko -- Jarkko Laine http://jlaine.net http://odesign.fi -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Or am I just crazy.Nope, your crazy. That''s the way it should be configured! In your client Reply-All will reply to both the list and the author, Reply will just go to the author. I highly recommend having a quick skim of "Reply-To Munging Considered Harmful": http://www.unicom.com/pw/reply-to-harmful.html - tim lucas
> Nope, your crazy. That''s the way it should be configured!I don''t think the issue here is "should"; the issue is consistency. The [rails] list does reply-to munging, so the [rails-spinoffs] list ought to as well. Principle of least surprise and all. Tyler

Principle of least surprise and all.Hadn''t noticed the rails list does it... I''d think the better solution would be to disable reply-to munging on the rails list rather than enabling it on spinoffs. But hey, what ever floats the list maintainer''s boat :P The _real problem_ is an impedance mismatch between our mental model of a group discussion, email applications, mailing list servers and the email specification... - tim
My 2c is that 99% of the time I want to reply to the list. I dislike sending 2 copies to the sender (that''s what happens when you do "reply to all"), so I end up having to go and remove the extra address. Or, as I did when I replied to this post, I just forget and hit "reply" and just get the sender''s address, not the list--so I have to go change the address to the list address. On the rare occasion that I just want to reply to the sender off-list, I don''t mind the extra effort of changing the address, but for general use, give me the list address as the default reply-to--it''s less work!
