I notice that IO performance is notably slower than the stock RHEL kernel; about 1/2 overall write performance. I can trigger the bug

After two days of banging on this issue I have reached two resolutions. 1. Flashing the 3ware card to latest firmware (3.08.00.016) seems to have solved it with all kernel versions. This is highly recommended that

Why pv-on-hvm drivers?
Hi list, I''ve read about recent efforts to push pv-on-hvm drivers to Linux mainline and I''m curious to know the cause for this. What''s the advantage over using pv_ops directly and booting the kernel paravirtualized? Are there plans to move Linux domUs closer to the KVM way (from an architectural point of view)? Hope you can help. Regards, Markus

How to get 3Ware 9500S controller card working in CentOS 3.1?
My goal is to be able to install to the drive array on the 3Ware controller card. 3Ware does provide a RH WS 3 driver that I've tried to use; however, the RH Enterprise 3 WS driver doesn't work since that kernel is older than the CentOS-3.1 install kernel. I'm trying to create a centOS-3.1 installation driver disk for the 3ware 9500S card; however, I'm not having much luck.

CentOS5, kernel update and 3ware driver
I'm using CentOS5 64bit on a system with a 3ware 9650SE card. I installed the OS using the driver disk files provided by 3ware. It worked fine with the original CentOS5 kernel. After doing a "yum update", which also installed an updated kernel, the system didn't work after a reboot, using the new kernel. I rebooted the old kernel, moved the 3w-9xxx.ko file from

[RFC] virtio: Use DMA MAP API for devices without an IOMMU
There are certian platforms which would like to use SWIOTLB based DMA API for bouncing purpose without actually requiring an IOMMU back end. But the virtio core does not allow such mechanism. Right now DMA MAP API is only selected for devices which have an IOMMU and then the QEMU/host back end will process all incoming SG buffer addresses as IOVA instead of simple GPA which is the case for simple

Xen Kernel (3.0.2) breaks b44 module
I have a new laptop (Dell 9400) that I am trying to work with Xen 3.0. Xen works fine, runs windows XP under HVM. But, the Xen kernel on Dom0 has a few problems with some of the hardware. The network card is a Broadcom 4400 10/100BaseT. Normally loading the b44 module gives this: Apr 28 20:07:53 ipanema kernel: [4294683.185000] b44.c:v0.97 (Nov 30, 2005) Apr 28 20:07:53 ipanema kernel:

3ware 9650 issues
I've been having no end of issues with a 3ware 9650SE-24M8 in a server that's coming on a year old. I've got 24 WDC WD5001ABYS drives (500GB) hooked to it, running as a single RAID6 w/ a hot spare. These issues boil down to the card periodically throwing errors like the following: sd 1:0:0:0: WARNING: (0x06:0x002C): Command (0x8a) timed out, resetting card. Usually when this
