A question on vmx loader in xen - how and when rombios is loaded into memory
A "main" function is defined in Xen-3.1.0-source/tools/firmware/hvmloader/hvmloader.c. In this main function, rombios, vgabios and vmxassist are copied to specified address, with following commands memcpy((void *)ROMBIOS_PHYSICAL_ADDRESS, rombios, rombios_sz); ... memcpy((void *)ETHERBOOT_PHYSICAL_ADDRESS, etherboot, sizeof(etherboot)); .... But after searching the whole

Booted off a live cd, ( I used a gentoo installer CD, but any live cd should work) Created a lvm volume on my Xen dom0 >From the liveCD, I use dd to copy the disk image to the lvm image (dd

RE: Installing Redhat 7,3 with hvm
Not yet, but I don''t see any reason for it to work any differently. I simply used vmware because it was convenient. -Adam | -----Original Message----- | From: Simon Gao [mailto:gao@schrodinger.com] | Sent: Thursday, October 05, 2006 11:22 AM | To: Adam Crews -X (acrews - Xerox at Cisco) | Cc: xen-users@lists.xensource.com; Mike Freemon | Subject: Re: [Xen-users]

Problem bringing up 32-bit Sles 9 on a Dom-VT
All, We are facing some issues bringing up a DomVT on Xen x86_64(changeset 9267). We created a disk image with dd 8 G in size. We then booted an associated Dom-VT with a CD-ROM and did net-install of the sles-9 OS. This completes successfully. Then, when the system is brought around for a reboot (having changed the boot option from cdrom to disk), the system hangs after the line

Hi Jan Beulich, > changeset 15414: 3cf5052ba5e5 x86: machine check exception handling With the c/s, when creating HVM guest, I can only see a white Qemu window. :( Can you have a look? Thanks. Install win2003 on xen
I am trying to install Windows 2003 Server as a xen guest and I am having a problem. After the guest is booted from CD-ROM i partition disk OK, and while system is trying to copy files needed for the installation, it cannot read some files from CD-ROM (starting with wow32.dll etc.). I have tried also to copy installation disk onto local disk and load it from .iso file, but the same problem

I''ve going about it in a similar way as installing windows with Xen, but when I start the guest up to install the OS it hangs on the line: ''Hit Esc for .altboot.......'' [RFC] New shadow paging code
We (Michael Fetterman, George Dunlap and I) have been working over the last while on a full replacement for Xen''s shadow pagetable support. This mail contains some design notes, below; a patch against xen-unstable, giving a snapshot of the current state of the new shadow code, is at http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~tjd21/shadow2.patch Comments on both are welcome, although the code is not

Xen 3.2 and Big Real Mode support?
Hello, I read in the announce of Xen 3.2.0 released that it has "preliminary support for a wider range of bootloaders in fully virtualised (HVM) guests, using full emulation of x86 ''real mode''" . I''d like to know what is the level of the emulation of x86 ''real mode''? I ask that because I tried to install OpenSuse 10.3 (I used the iso file

VT-d and the GPU
Like others on this list I am trying to employ the VTD-NEO patches in Xen 3.2 unstable to assign the internal graphics device to Dom1/Vista. I have removed the Cirrus Logic emulated device from qemu and replaced the Cirrus Logic vgabios with the the actual vgabios from my GPU. However I am hitting an xen assert and was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction. Below

hvm networking with vif-route
Greetings xen gurus... I''m working with xen-3.0-testing downloaded on July 3, 2006. I have configured an hvm domain and want to use vif-route and network-route to configure the communication. The domU starts up fine. I was able to complete the installation of the OS (RHES3) and can restart the domain repeatedly. However, I cannot ping the network interface from dom0 using the

[PATCH RFC] hvmloader: Make ROM dependencies optional
When booting HVMs with SeaBIOS, the BIOS itself takes care of extracting option ROMs from the PCI devices. These ROMs are usually provided with by the device model (qemu). Thus, hvmloader should not require any longer the rombios, stdvga, cirrusvga or etherboot ROMs to be present. Also, the 32bitbios_support.c file is specific to rombios and should not be built when building hvmloader with

[PATCH v3 0/5] hvmloader: Make ROM dependencies optional
This patch set mainly allows the user to build a seabios or rombios only version of hvmloader. In addition, when building a seabios only hvmloader, Option ROMs like vgabios and etherboot are no longer required, and therefore can be disabled from the build. Dependency on the bcc compiler can also be avoided the same way. v2: Separate patches for separate issues Introduced config option to

[PATCH] hvmloader: fix SeaBIOS interface
The SeaBIOS ROM image may validly exceed 128k in size, it''s only our interface code that so far assumed that it wouldn''t. Remove that restriction by setting the base address depending on image size. Add a check to HVM loader so that too big images won''t result in silent guest failure anymore. Uncomment the intended build-time size check for rombios, moving it into a
