Object#id being deprecated - Rails 1.1
Hi Think this is probably straightforward, but I don''t know enough about rails to work it out, so was wondering if anyone can help I keep on running into this error when I''m deploying my app: "FastCGI: server ".../public_html/public/dispatch.fcgi" stderr: ../config/../app/views/items/_side_share.rhtml:8: warning: Object#id will be deprecated; use

Rails freeze, weird error
Hello -- So, I have a bunch of apps on my dev box, all currently v1.0.0. I thought I could use the freezing techniques to test each app for 1.1.x compatibility individually, but that doesn''t seem to be working out... First, I checked out from http://dev.rubyonrails.org/svn/rails/tags/rel_1-1-2/ into vendor/rails Then I ran "rake rails:update". Then I went into console, and

Plugins: svn externals vs. local repository
...or, what is the best practise for ensuring that capistrano gets plugin code to the production server? Do you hook up your plugins to the originating repository (thereby automatically picking up changes to the plugin), or check them into your application''s repo and use "script/plugin update" to keep plugins fresh? Does that method mess with your .svn directories? thanks for

rails + svn automation script
Anyone got a script to share that: 1. Creates a trunk directory 2. Creates a trunk/vendor directory 3. Adds the above to svn 4. Modifies trunk/vendor to use a certain rails revision (i.e. trunk or 1.1) 5. Runs trunk/vendor/rails/.../bin/rails to generate a rails directory skeleton 6. Modifies the svn:ignore for the logs and config/database.yml 7. Moves config/database.yml to

Rails 1.1.2: A tiny fix for gem dependencies
The new gem version dependency system from Rails 1.1.1 needed a few tweaks to work properly and to stop throwing meaningless warnings. This tiny release makes up for that. To install: * gem install rails * rake rails:update:configs (to get the latest config/boot.rb) This release also signals our new commitment to do more tiny releases from the stable branch, which only gets bug fixes. So it will

acts_as_tree with acts_as_list
Hello all, I''m having trouble using acts_as_list with acts_as_tree to order the "children". I''ve found a few old posts on the web that seem to indicate that this once worked. class Whatever < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_tree :order => :position acts_as_list :scope => :parent_id Although the ''position'' field is being populated, it appears

image_tag adding request parameter
I have noticed that the image_tag helper method now appends a request parameter to the generated src attribute. With Rails 1.0/actionpack-1.11.2 I had <img src="/images/rss.gif" /> Now (1.1/1.12.1) I get <img alt="Rss" border="0" src="/images/rss.gif?1142366545" /> Is there any use for that number? Where does it come from? This is very far

Samba4 internal DNS wildcards
Hi folks, Can't seem to find any info on this one. I've done a Samba3 classic upgrade to Samba4 on my test rig which has gone very well so far. All users and groups look good, I'm using NSLCD to view creds on my *nix boxes and I'm generally a happy camper, but... I can't seem to get DNS wildcards working. I create a new domain under main search domain in Forward Lookup Zones

AR transactions and isolation levels
I''m trying to create a sequence with no gaps in my db (contrived example, but should work out the same as my real one), and believe db-managed transactions are the way to go about this. It''s my first real ''go'' at transactions, so I may be mistaken about how things really work. Anyway.. Consider this example code: Class Invoice < ActiveRecord::Base def

Wildcard patterns in `--undefined` linker option
Hi, I got a feature request from an internal customer of lld, but I don't know whether we should implement it or not, so I'd like to get opinions from people on this mailing list. The feature request is to allow wildcard patterns in the `--undefined` option. `--undefined foo` (or `-u foo` for short) makes the linker to pull out an object file from a static library if the file defines

a lld linker script bug
Hi, Thanks for your patch, Huang. It looks good to me. Just one comment: can you write a testcase, similar to the others used for linker script testing, with your example? Alternatively, you can modify lld/test/elf/linkerscript/sections-with-wildcards.test to test your case. This will make your patch complete and ready for commit, and will ensure we do not regress on this bug if this code is ever

legacy database and finder_sql nightmare!
This is my first rails app with a legacy database and I''m having a terrible time getting the models set up correctly. I have an order table that has a primary field named order_number. I have a name table with a primary of item_number. These two tables are liked by the item_number and the order_number, but not as you might think. If the order_number is 2500, then each entry in

Problem on Dreamhost: engine for rails 1.1.6
Hi, I''m trying to set up Substruct (shopping cart engine) on Dreamhost. I failed several times and tracked down to the problem area. I can reproduce the problem with these steps: 1. install rails 2. change public/.htaccess for fcgi 3. change public/dispatch.fcgi for RailsFCGIHandler At this step, I can execute public/dispatch.fcgi without error. 4. svn co

Wildcard for indexing?
Hi, I'd like to know if it is possible to use wildcards * for indexing... E.g. I have a vector of strings. Now I'd like to select all elements which start with A_*? I'd also need to combine that with logical operators: "Select all elements of a vector that start with A (A*) OR that start with B (B*)" Probably that is quite easy. I looked into grep() which I think might

Improving partial lookup results
Hi, I'm exploring using Xapian to to replace a database-backed people lookup. It's working well but I'd like to know if there's anything more I can do to increase accuracy. It handles partial phrases well, so long as the first part is complete (e.g. "Peter Bow" expands well). If instead I type "P Bow" it fails to work, as the expansion is done at the end. Is

svn externals and Edge Rails
Hi all: I am considering using edge rails so I can use join tables. I want to use svn:externals to manage edge rails, however I want to understand it more before I go and set everything up. so everytime I commit my app it will pull the most recent version of rails from the svn repository, right? What if the current version of rails is unstable, is there a way to rollback edgerails and NOT my app?

DHH''s Post on Ruby Talk -- Rails 1.1.6: Stronger fix, backports, and full disclosure
The cat is out of the bag, so here''s the full disclosure edition of the current security vulnerability. With Rails 1.1.0 through 1.1.5 (minus the short-lived 1.1.3), you can trigger the evaluation of Ruby code through the URL because of a bug in the routing code of Rails. This means that you can essentially take down a Rails process by starting something like /script/profiler, as the code
