Xeno-HOWTO
I''ve just finished Xeno-HOWTO which contains a detailed
list of instructions on how to setting up Xen and XenoLinux,
from downloading Bitkeeper, compilation of Xen, XenoLinux,
tools to configuration, start and stop of new domains.
A complete version has just been pushed in xeno.bk and
xeno-1.1.bk in our Laboratory. A partital version is already

xm list dropping domain?
I rebooted xenU from console (dom2) and exited (ctr-]). xm list does
not report 2 anymore yet I can log into 2 via console and it is running
just fine. Is this a bug? I''ll pull/rebuild and see what happens..
(this is xen-2.0, cset 1.1321.1.1, rh7.3 dom0/dom1)

RE: [Xen-ia64-devel] Paravirtualized xenlinux/ia64 available
Yes, like real Linux/ia64, it is not possible to run the
same Xenlinux bits both on ski and on real hardware.
A different configuration and build is required. The
config difference is the same as it was with the
privified xenlinux... I think you did that successfully
before (with privified xenlinux) so give that config
file a try and if it doesn''t work, let me know.
BTW, I think I know

where is Xen''s name from?
hello,
I wonder where the Xen''s name came from? I looked at the Xen FAQ, and
there is no information. That should be there, right ;-)
Merry Christmas to everyone on the list ;-)

xeno-1.2.bk compilation question?
The system is Mandrake-9.1 Linux wih gcc-3.2.2.
I am trying to compile xenolinux-2.4.24 (with vanilla sources from
ftp.kernel.org for linux-2.4.24). The steps of
mkbuildtree
ARCH=xeno make menuconfig
ARCH=xeno make dep
produce no errors, but
ARCH=xeno make bzImage
results in following error messages.
Any pointers will be appreciated.

Is it possible to Xenify a stock Redhat/Fedora kernel.
I would have sworn that someone on the list had a way to Xenify a stock
RH kernel but I was not able to dig it up on the archives.
If this does not exist I am sure it would be a nice addition to Xen to
be able to patch and build some kernels that are compatable with some of
the popular distributions.

[PATCH] domain.c idle_loop declaration (take 2)
The recent change to the declaration of idle_loop in domain.c fixed a
compilation problem on gcc 3.4.2. Enclosed patch is another suggestion
on how to solve that problem.
Some further analysis, with much help from Jimmy Xenidis of IBM
research, shows that the problem was not the declaration of the function
as static void, but that the compiler is optimizing the function out of

Kernel 2.6.10, reiser4, kernel 2.4.27 cpu load, and mailing list reply-to
Hi,
Some questions here :
1. Is there a way to compile kernel 2.6.10 or 2.6.9-mm1 with xen 2.0?
I tried both (with mkbuildtree from linux-2.6.9-xen-sparse), and both
failed (on different places).
My primary goal is to use reiser4 on both xen-0 and xen-U kernel, so I''m
more
interested in -mm kernel.
2. If I use kernel 2.4.27 (xen-U), top doesn''t show correct cpu usage

xen 2.0/2.0.1 reboots silently on via C3-cpu
On my lex mainboard with a Via C3 cpu, xen 2.0(.1) reboots (nearly)
immediately without any outputs.
The same setup/version boots without problems on a via epia M board with
a Via C3-2 cpu (Nehemia), having a rather different chipset.
Starting with option noreboot, nobiostables doesn''t change anything
visible.
Is this a known problem? Or just a knowingly unsupported chipset?
Have you

kbuild improvements for klibc
Hi all.
I have pushed my earlier announced kbuild improvements patch to:
bk://linux-sam.bkbits.net/2.5-klibc
First cset is the earlier posted cset, whit a few small modifications.
One important change is that the usr/Makefile now uses *.a files
in initramfs-y assignment. I realised that the purpose was to express
what kinit were using / referring.
Second cset is a trivial cset that just move

klibc integration status
Hi, Greg -
I have a 2.5.70 BK repository, with klibc integrated, at:
bk://klibc.bkbits.net/2.5-klibc
This repo has the following features:
* Completely up-to-date w.r.t. klibc itself.
* Kbuild sort of happy, but still needs an eyeball from Kai to
figure out why it always rebuilds everything in usr/.
* Supports both IP autoconfig and NFS root from initramfs.

modules and hypercall
Hello,
I''m trying to write a module to play with hypercall. So I wrote the following

* The routines in this file are used to get information about virtual
* network interface provide by Xen.

[patch] linux-2.6 performance fix
This patch for linux-2.6 defconfig more than quadrupled iperf throughput,
restoring the gigethernet network performance to wire speed at long last.
Applies to xen-2.0-testing.bk xen-2.0.bk and xeno-unstable.bk
The throughput on linux-2.4.29 seems fine. I hadn''t tried it since 2.4.27.

byg report : "console=com1" and "Unknown interrupt"
hello,
I''m booting xen on iTuner over serial console. It seems to me
that it is bug that unless I explictly specify "console=com1"
I get unhelpfull message "Unknown Interrupt" and halt (infinite
loop).
sh-2.05b# /sbin/kexec -e
Starting new kernel
Unknown interrupt
adding "console=com1" fixes this problem for me so I doubt it

Just did a quick scan for that error message in the kernel source. Turns

Interestingly enough, it''s claiming that the mac addy isn''t any good!
