atropos scheduler params
Hi folks,
I''m trying to use the atropos scheduler with Xen. Couple of questions:
- the scheduling param *has* to be specified at boot time right, or
does Xen allow changing the scheduling scheme at run time??
- xm help atropos gives a very vague message at best, perhaps we could
make it more elaborate:
xm atropos DOM SLICE PERIOD LATENCY XTRATIME

atropos still broken?
Hi everyone,
This is for Xen 2.0.3. I''m really interested in the functionality of
atropos (enforcing CPU partitioning in a non work-conserving fashion).
As I had reported earlier, atropos seemed broken in 2.0. It still
seems broken now:
$ xm list
Name Id Mem(MB) CPU State Time(s) Console

xm list dropping domain?
I rebooted xenU from console (dom2) and exited (ctr-]). xm list does
not report 2 anymore yet I can log into 2 via console and it is running
just fine. Is this a bug? I''ll pull/rebuild and see what happens..
(this is xen-2.0, cset 1.1321.1.1, rh7.3 dom0/dom1)

brctl troubles - more info
Just did a quick scan for that error message in the kernel source. Turns
out it''s triggered in net/bridge/br_fdb.c:289.
if (!is_valid_ether_addr(addr))
return -EADDRNOTAVAIL;
Interestingly enough, it''s claiming that the mac addy isn''t any good!

about memory alloc
Hi,
I have a question, If I start 2 or more guest linux, does the physical memory of code segment and readonly data segment be reused?
What''s the relationship between the physical memory and the number of guest os that can create?

VM Remote access options
Just to error test my own thinking here, there seems to be the following
options for remote graphical access to a running domian vm. Besides the
normal network service via a port and a raw console, the options are
straight X, VNC, and XN.
X - supports a single X window running on a local XServer, tied to a single
process on the remote system. No remote desktop
VNC - comes in two flavors of

NPTL/TLS "emulation" idea
Hi,
Currently TLS wraparound segments are a problem in Xen,
since the kernel needs to be protected by keeping the
user space segments out of kernel space.
A few weeks ago Roland, Jakub and myself brainstormed
about this problem. One of the things that came up is
that the positive (glibc private data) and -ve (TLS)
data are not generally used at the same time.
This lead to one of us (I

For iSCSI, have a look at iscsi-init at sourceforge.
http://iscsi-init.sourceforge.net. Load it as a module in an initrd and
it uses some kernel parameters and automatically configures the network

Problem booting Dom0
Hi,
Thanks to everyone involved in the Xen project. I think it is great
and can''t wait to get my hands dirty with it. In the meantime, I
cannot boot Dom0 on an ibm x335 and I am not sure what the problem is.
Any insights are welcome.
Here is what my grub.conf file looks like:

Xen HVM images on VMware ESX
Hi everyone,
I''m trying to convert some Xen HVM images to run on VMware ESX,
unsuccessfully thus far. I believe the problem is that ESX by default
wants the VMs to use SCSI virtual disks, but my HVM VMs are configured
to use IDE virtual disks. If you have any experience with this sort of
thing, please get in touch.
Thanks!

Hi,
I read about RPC interface for xenmon in this presentation:
www.xensource.com/files/xs0106_xenmon_brief.pdf
Has such interface been implemented yet by anyone?
Thanks,

Creating a new gallery layout
Hi,
I''m trying to create a new gallery layout. I did the following:
o create plugin/foobar.rb in my base directory.
o copy plugins/gallerylayouters/default.rb in foobar.rb and make
appropriate modifications. For
simplicity, lets say my class looks thus:
require ''webgen/plugins/gallerylayouters/default''
module GalleryLayouters
class Foobar <

Is it possible to Xenify a stock Redhat/Fedora kernel.
I would have sworn that someone on the list had a way to Xenify a stock
RH kernel but I was not able to dig it up on the archives.
If this does not exist I am sure it would be a nice addition to Xen to
be able to patch and build some kernels that are compatable with some of
the popular distributions.

I/O descriptor ring size bottleneck?
Hi everyone,
I''m doing some networking experiments over high BDP topologies. Right
now the configuration is quite simple -- two Xen boxes connected via a
dummynet router. The dummynet router is set to limit bandwidth to
500Mbps and simulate an RTT of 80ms.
I''m using the following sysctl values:
net.ipv4.tcp_rmem = 4096 87380 4194304
net.ipv4.tcp_wmem = 4096

Asynchronous IO
Hi,
I have installed Xen on Linux 2.6.11.10 <http://2.6.11.10> and i am trying
to do Asynchronous Direct IO on SAS drives. The application which does the
asynchronous direct io on SAS drive is running on Domain 0. Actually the
IOPs what i get for a 512Bytes IO size is 67, but if i do the same operation
on Linux 2.6.11.10 <http://2.6.11.10> native kernel, i get 267

error: (XEN) Not enough memory for DOM0 memory reservation.
Dear list,
I''m trying to get Xen working on a P3-600E with 320 MB RAM. (256+64)
It has suse linux 9.1 installed on it, and I tried to get xen running with
both the binary download from the xen pages and the suse xen packages
mentioned on this list some days ago.
Both ''install packages/kernels'' lead to the same error:
