R: R: Hidden Markov Models
Thank you for your prompt answer. The breathing signal observations are the amplitude values as a function of time and phase. According to our model the hidden states are the different breathing types. Subjects, whose respiratiion process is regular, are likely to breathe, keeping the same cycle pattern/type, for many consecutive cycles. therefore dwelling in the same hidden state. The more

applying duplicated, unique and match to lists?
Dear R developers, While improving duplicated.array() and friends and developing equivalents for the new ff package for large datasets I came across two questions: 1) is it safe to use duplicated.default(), unique.default() and match() on arbitrary lists? If so, we can speed up duplicated.array and friends considerably by using list() instead of paste(collapse="\r") 2) while

unable to install package ff
Hi all, I've had one of my most miserable R weeks in memory. I'm trying to deal with huge datasets (>1GB each) but am running up against those pesky memory limits. The libraries filehash and g.data are not very suitable for what I need. I haven't gotten into the sql thing yet. Most recently I've been trying to install the new package ff (not yet on the CRAN repository). I

HELP: ff package
I use the ff-package for large data and have good success in session. To ensure my data is available for the next R session, I save my workspace and use the /ffsave/ command to archive my large data objects. Syntax is simple: > ffsave(file="~/path/archiveName", list="objectName") when I have multiple files to save, the list is expanded using c(). When I start a new R

Installing rgl in R2.0.1
I'm running R2.0.1 under Solaris 2.9 on a SunBlade 100. When I installed it, I set things up to use the Sun compilers cc, CC, f95 with the options recommended in the installation and administration guide. Until today, no worries. With all this discussion about R GUIs I thought I'd give R Commander a go. The web page said to install a bunch of packages first, so I did >

ff for 64-bit windows and 64-bit R
Lawrence, My understanding is that only a minor change is needed in ff's C++ layer in order to remove the 64bit compiler warnings/errors. The C++ layer is maintained by Daniel Adler, who can give you an outlook if/when he plans to attack this. Until a 64bit version of ff is available, you might consider using the 32bit win version of R and ff on a 64bit win machine: while 32bit R itself

Installation
Hi, I have the following (probably trivial) problem: I am running a Windows 95 System and have setted the environment variables R_HOME and especillay R_USER in the autoexec.bat. The idea was, to invoke R at the startup to read in the files .Renviron and .Rprofile from my home directory, even when the current working directory is somewhere else. Subject to the manual it should work, but it does

Kernel Density estimation - locfit package
Hello there, I am presently using the locfit package in "R" and would appreciate some help here. Could anyone tell me tell me how I can obtain the various components (x and y values)of the density estimation after using the "R" command "locfit"? For example, with the command "fhat<-density(somename)" I can obtain the x and y values by simply calling

Q: How 2 Override Domain?
Sorry for asking - but I found or understood nothing appropriate in the FAQs etc. I run a Samba print service (1.9.18p7) on a FreeBSD box for the university of Goettingen. Authentification is user-based and done by an NT system. Everyone who wants to print must have an account on that system. There are a lot of NT domains on the campus, of course. If now someone tries to connect to a print

R CMD check: checking for undocumented objects ... WARNING
Dear List, I have a problem building an R package using R 1.7.1 that I cannot resolve myself. R CMD check tells me that functions I documented properly in Rd-files are not documented and gives a TeX error at the end, altough the Rd files check is OK. I have three fucntions, one gets through without complaining, the other two don't. All the docu for the example data is also OK. I went through

Kolmogorov-Smirnof test for lognormal distribution with estimated parameters
Hello all, Would somebody be kind enough to show me how to do a KS test in R for a lognormal distribution with ESTIMATED parameters. The R function ks.test()says "the parameters specified must be prespecified and not estimated from the data" Is there a way to correct this when one uses estimated data? uninitialised value in R (PR#13476)
Hi, I get an "Conditional jump or move depends on uninitialised value(s)" from valgrind when using 'solve' in combination with some simple C-code. (I did not use other functions of R besides 'solve'.) In detail: running R --vanilla -d "valgrind --tool=memcheck --memcheck:leak-check=yes --num-callers=20 " and calling .Call("XXX") nd <- 3

replacing characters in formulae / models
Dear all, How can I replace text in objects that are of class "formula"? y="a * x + b" class(y)="formula" grep("x",y) y[1] Suppose I would like to replace the "x" by "w" in the formula object "y". How can this be done? Somehow, the methods that can be used in character objects do not work 1:1 in formula objects... Many

MAP_ANON replacement?
Here I would like to suggest a replacement for MAP_ANON on systems which do not have it, such as Solaris < 8. In "man mmap" of Solaris 8: When MAP_ANON is set in flags, and fd is set to -1, mmap() provides a direct path to return anonymous pages to the caller. This operation is equivalent to passing mmap() an open file descriptor on /dev/zero with
