Building a FAQ
I''m new in Rails, and I''m building my first application. I''m trying to make
a FAQ for this application, organized by product (questions about each
product) and category (questions of different categories or topics), and
there is something I can''t figure it out how to do.
I have these tables:
create_table "faqs" do |t|

Date.to_s format with time_ago_in_words
Hello,
Following this post''s instructions (http://railspikes.com/tags/date) I''m
trying to define a Date format like this:
ActiveSupport::CoreExtensions::Date::Conversions::DATE_FORMATS.update(:date_ago
=> lambda { |date| date.strftime(''%a, %d %b, %I:%M%p'') + '' ('' +
time_ago_in_words(date) + '')'' } )

service_cli.rb
Hi,
I just got done using win32/service to run a very small/hack-ish "Riki"
WEBrick service. Very cool stuff. Thanks.
So, in the process, I noticed a lot of the "control" start/install/etc.
command line parser stuff looked a bit boilerplate, so I pulled it out into
a helper function "service_cli" (for lack of a better name).
Its simple, but it allows me to do away

in_place_editor not working for Internationalization
I''m trying to implement internationalization in my app. I followed
the instructions on the Globalize example (http://wiki.globalize-
rails.org/globalize/show/Example+Application), using in_place_editor.
The translation works fine, however, I can''t get in_place_editor to
work to translate the strings.
My controller:

everybody loves R...
Just thought I'd let you guys know about this site I stumbled across:
http://riki.wikidot.com/ http://riki.wikidot.com/
It is obviously in its early stages (as it does not have any content yet)
but is looking like a good place to build a simple knowledge base for the R
software.
Anyway, if any of you have time on your hands, I'm sure they'd appreciate
the help.

Using globalize and Net::HTTP.get
Today we did some cool stuff with globalize (the library) and
Net::HTTP.get. I thought it was pretty awesome, but most people I talked
to really didn''t think so, so I''ve come here to share my excitement on
this list w/ ppl who''d understand :P
Anyways, we took globalize and extended it so that websites were
translated on the fly by Google Translate / Babelfish type

Distribute Rails app. without source code
I have a commercial software that I?d like to completely re-do in Ruby
on Rails, as a web application on Apache. But I don?t want to distribute

Rails application without the source code?
Thanks in advance,

ruby on rails international & BIRT integration?
Hello,
I see, that Rails is quite english-centric. I am developing some webs,
that are not primarily in English. I have a few questions:
- besides turning of plurals, what should I take care? How to use utf-8
for all data and converting it from local charsets to utf-8?
- how do I make my page multilingual (i.e. adding english support
later)? Is there something like gettext support? Is

Distro ready out of the box
hi all,
I''m writing not for technical problems but for a simple question.
Do You know if there is a distro which is ready for traffic shaping etc.
''out of the box''?
I mean a distro which does not require patching the kernel and/or
iptables and/or installing from source etc. and gives the user most of
the tools needed (imq, ipp2p, l7filter and so on).
many thanks

Translation SIG
Hi,
we already had a little bit of that discussion a few weeks ago:
Is there anyone interested in a general translation/i18n/l10n
(internationalization, localization) SIG? I'd be more than happy to be
the "inner person from CentOS" within that SIG, but I'd be also more
than happy if someone else wants to drive that.
See <http://wiki.centos.org/SpecialInterestGroup>.

Internationalizing the Rcmdr package?
Dear R-devel list members,
I'm considering adding support for other languages than English to the Rcmdr
package. I understand that the use of Tcl/Tk by the Rcmdr package means I
won't be able to make full use of the internationalization facilities in R
2.1.0. I'm interested, therefore, in whether the following, more limited,
strategy (which bears some similarity to the

Questions to users of AIX, HP-UX or Irix
We are working on internationalization of R, in particular support for
Unicode via UTF-8 locales and incorporation of the work of the
`Japanization' group. A document on the current position can be found at
http://developer.r-project.org/Encodings_and_R.html
We have read that AIX, HP-UX and Irix have (or had?) no support for UTF-8
locales (e.g. en_GB.utf8). Solaris has a limited range

Internationalization of the Rcmdr package
Dear r-devel list members,
I've prepared a version of the Rcmdr package that uses the new tools for
internationalization and localization in R 2.1.x. For the present, this is
the development version of the Rcmdr package (1.1-0), available at
<http://socserv.socsci.mcmaster.ca/jfox/Misc/Rcmdr/index.html>. There is
currently a French translation provided with the package, courtesy of

We have a French translation (and general gettext-ization) of
vorbis-tools! Still needs to be merged, though. Perhaps I'll tackle
that tomorrow. See below.
