Feature request
Hello, I have an idea, is this a good list for it? I hope it won't be offtopic. So... it would be nice, if you change the host resolver code to this: it should lookup MX records like mail transport agents, but only if A record for host doesn't present. Demonstration: foo.org MX 7 bigboy.foo.org bigboy.foo.org A 1.2.3.4 west.foo.org MX 1 mail.fooisp.net west.foo.org

People
Is there a way to map NT names to UNIX names when they are not the same. 95% of our are which is great but we have a few that are different. For example, we have NT user "bigboy" who's Unix account is "smallboy", how can I make an association, oh learned 1's. Odd login issue [early Samba]
Cobalt RAQ2/Samba 1.9.18p10 I *know* this is an unconscionably old version of Samba which I will upgrade as soon as possible, but first I have to get control of things at a new job and inventory what exists and where. I just got hired one day ago, thus for now Im just "putting out fires" for a few days. A RAQ2 is being used as a single site DNS/Fileserver/Mailserver for a department

zfs snapshot restarts scrubbing?
Hi, yesterday I implemented a simple hourly snapshot on my filesystems. I also regularly initiate a manual "zpool scrub" on all my pools. Usually the scrubbing will run for about 3 hours. But after enabling hourly snapshots I noticed that zfs scrub is always restarted if a new snapshot is created - so basically it will never have the chance to finish: # zpool scrub scratch # zpool

Manual rsync before self-heal to prevent repaired server hanging
Hello All, I have replicated-distributed volumes (created with the CLI) spread over several servers. One of the servers in the cluster has been down for two weeks due to hardware problems and I am now ready to put it back into service. The problem is that the files on it are now very different to the files on its GlusterFS replica; a lot of data has been added to the GlusterFS volumes in

[PATCH] Btrfs: fix crash in scrub repair code when device is missing
Fix that when scrub tries to repair an I/O or checksum error and one of the devices containing the mirror is missing, it crashes in bio_add_page because the bdev is a NULL pointer for missing devices. repairing mbox files
Hi folks, Is there a good tool for repairing/working with mbox files? I'm trying to get a user moved off of Entourage (Outlook for Mac). Entourage actually exports the mail (was pop, will be imap) as mbox files, however, I can't just drop them in place even after fixing the line-endings. many of the messages with attachments come up with the correct header info but no message body

Scrubbing only checks used data?
Hi there, I am currently evaluating OpenSolaris as a replacement for my linux installations. I installed it as a xen domU, so there is a remote chance, that my observations are caused by xen. First, my understanding of "zpool scrub" is "Ok, go ahead, and rewrite each block of each device of the zpool". Whereas "resilvering" means "Make

Repeating scrub does random fixes
I''ve been using a 5-disk raidZ for years on SXCE machine which I converted to OSOL. The only time I ever had zfs problems in SXCE was with snv_120, which was fixed. So, now I''m at OSOL snv_111b and I''m finding that scrub repairs errors on random disks. If I repeat the scrub, it will fix errors on other disks. Occasionally it runs cleanly. That it doesn''t

What is the one thing that polycom can do...
On the landing page of the Polycom web site there's a "We're listening" nanosurvey, asking what is the one thing Polycom can do to improve their products. The link points here: http://polycom.zuberance.com/survey.htm I wrote a sentence about tweaking the user interface on the IP Soundpoint series phones, so that one can escape any level of any menu with repeated pressing of the

How are alternate superblocks repaired?
Hi, Using dumpe2fs I have been able to determine that all of my alternate ext3 superblocks are corrupted (not clean), and only the primary superblock is valid, i.e. mount works and the ordered journal is applied. When the primary superblock gets flakey, i.e. the ext_attr Filesystem feature goes missing - not sure why this occurs. At this point, the mount does not apply the journal using the

Samba client filesize problems
Filesize problems with samba client on Redhat 9 and W2k machine. The original smbclient did this so I upgraded to the latest, it didn't help. The server is W2k with an NTFS volume, these are video files - the windows software breaks the files at the 2G limit, but for some reason some are reported as 2G others as huge !! One day I might own 25T of disk, but not today. Anyone any ideas ?

Win XP Pro x64 and roaming profiles
I've recently connected a 64-bit windows box to my existing Samba-run domain. In order to do this, I upgraded to Samba 3.0.23c. Most things work fine. However, I'm having trouble getting the 64-bit box to properly pick up the location of the roaming profile. I want the profile to be stored in a directory in the user's home directory called ".profiles". However, 64

[LLVMdev] Out of tree targets
Hey all, Quick query on out of tree target support - at present I can drop a folder Foo into <llvm>/lib/Target/Foo and use the CMake option LLVM_EXPERIMENTAL_TARGETS_TO_BUILD to pick up my target. The issue is that I still need to patch the one LLVMBuild.txt file in <llvm>/lib/Target with; |iff --git a/lib/Target/LLVMBuild.txt b/lib/Target/LLVMBuild.txt index 4112046..6e42cbe

Improving 30-40MB/sec Sequential Reads
I'm seeing some really poor performance out of my FreeNAS (ver 9.10) machine, running Samba "4.3.6-GIT-UNKNOWN". I'm using IOMeter to benchmark sequential reads, and getting around 35-40 MB/sec, which seems unusual. Mostly, I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of a decent tuning guide for a SOHO machine running Samba, but if you're inclined, I'll delve

ZFS RAID-Z2 degraded vs RAID-Z1
Had an idea, could someone please tell me why it''s wrong? (I feel like it has to be). A RaidZ-2 pool with one missing disk offers the same failure resilience as a healthy RaidZ1 pool (no data loss when one disk fails). I had initially wanted to do single parity raidz pool (5disk), but after a recent scare decided raidz2 was the way to go. With the help of a sparse file
