ZFS send/receive to Solaris/FBSD/OpenIndiana/Nexenta VM guest?
Hello,
I''m debating an OS change and also thinking about my options for data
migration to my next server, whether it is on new or the same hardware.
Migrating to a new machine I understand is a simple matter of ZFS
send/receive, but reformatting the existing drives to host my existing
data is an area I''d like to learn a little more about. In the past I''ve

Solaris 10 5/09 ISCSI Target Issues
Hi,
I have a zfs root Solaris 10 running on my home server. I created an ISCSI target in the following way:

Turned on the shareiscsi property
# zfs set shareiscsi=on rpool2/iscsivol
# zfs list rpool2/iscsivol

zpool import -f rpool hangs
I had the rpool with two sata disks in the miror. Solaris 10 5.10
Generic_141415-08 i86pc i386 i86pc
Unfortunately the first disk with grub loader has failed with unrecoverable
block write/read errors.
Now I have the problem to import rpool after the first disk has failed.
So I decided to do: "zpool import -f rpool" only with second disk, but it''s
hangs and the system is

can''t boot 2009.06 domU on Xen 3.4.1 / CentOS 5.3 dom0
I''ve got a CentOS 5.3 dom0 with Xen 3.4.1-rc5 (or so). I''ve tried the same stuff below with 3.4.0, no difference. I''m trying to install 2009.06 PV domU based on instructions from [1] and [2]. I can run the install fine, I can also get the kernel and boot archive (from [2]) after the install. But for the life of me I can''t get the installed domU to boot.

Bug in "zpool history"
Hi,
I was playing around with NexentaCP and its zfs boot facility. I tried
to figure out how what commands to run and I ran zpool history like
this
# zpool history
2007-06-20.10:19:46 zfs snapshot syspool/rootfs at mysnapshot
2007-06-20.10:20:03 zfs clone syspool/rootfs at mysnapshot syspool/myrootfs
2007-06-20.10:23:21 zfs set bootfs=syspool/myrootfs syspool
As you can see it says I did a

PyGrub + ZFS: getbootstring. How it works?
I have NexentaCP2 (Opensolaris b104+).
Parameters for the kernel:
''zfs-bootfs=syspool/rootfs-nmu-000,bootpath=/xpvd/xdf@0:a''
Pygrub returns:
''zfs-bootfs=syspool/30,bootpath=/xpvd/xdf@0:a''
Result: Boot with pygrub don''t work.
What is "30" in syspool/30 ?

How to rename rpool. Is that recommended ?
Hello,
I have a situation where a host, which is booted off its ''rpool'', need
to temporarily import the ''rpool'' of another host, edit some files in
it, and export the pool back retaining its original name ''rpool''. Can
this be done ?
Here is what I am trying to do:
# zpool import -R /a rpool temp-rpool
# zfs set mountpoint=/mnt

ZFS Boot Won''t work with a straight or mirror zfsroot
Using build 70, I followed the zfsboot instructions at http://
www.opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/boot/zfsboot-manual/ to the
letter.
I tried first with a mirror zfsroot, when I try to boot to zfsboot
the screen is flooded with "init(1M) exited on fatal signal 9"
Than I tried with a simple zfs pool (not mirrored) and it just
reboots right away.
If I try to setup grub

Error 16: Inconsistent filesystem structure after a change in the system
I''ve hit this bug on my home machine couple of times and finally decided to log
it since I''ve spend 2 days configuring my "OpenSolaris 2008.11 snv_101b_rc2
X86" and after installing the SUNWsmbfskr package I ended up in the grub> menu.
The package contains a necessary module for CIFS. After pkg install
SUNWsmbfskr, I rebooted the box. There was no grub menu anymore

"no pool_props" for OpenSolaris 2009.06 with old SPARC hardware
Hi,
yesterday evening I tried to upgrade my Ultra 60 to 2009.06 from SXCE snv_98.
I can''t use AI Installer because OpenPROM is version 3.27.
So I built IPS from source, then created a zpool on a spare drive and installed OS 2006.06 on it
To make the disk bootable I used:
installboot -F zfs /usr/platform/`uname -i`/lib/fs/zfs/bootblk /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0s0
using the executable from my new

Another MPT issue - kernel crash
Hi all,
I have faced yet another kernel panic that seems to be related to mpt
driver.
This time i was trying to add a new disk to a running system (snv_134)
and this new disk was not being detected...following a tip i ran the
lsitool to reset the bus and this lead to a system panic.

Reboots when importing old rpool
I have a fresh install of Solaris 11 Express on a new SSD. I have inserted the old hard disk, and tried to import it, with:
# zpool import -f <long id number> Old_rpool
but the computer reboots. Why is that? On my old hard disk, I have 10-20 BE, starting with OpenSolaris 2009.06 and upgraded to b134 up to snv_151a. I also have a WinXP entry in GRUB.
This hard disk is partitioned, with a

Infinite loop with bcmxcp_usb and Powerware 5115
I'm running Solaris 11 Express (snv_151a X86) with NUT 2.6.0 compliled
from the source tarball and a Powerware 5115. I was seeing the driver
hang, so gave it some '-D's (23 apparently ;-) and found that it seems
to be getting into an infinite loop when reading data from the UPS.
The debug output is attached and I would be very grateful for some
help or advice on what to try next.

Kernel panic on import / interrupted zfs destroy
I have a box running snv_134 that had a little boo-boo.
The problem first started a couple of weeks ago with some corruption on two filesystems in a 11 disk 10tb raidz2 set. I ran a couple of scrubs that revealed a handful of corrupt files on my 2 de-duplicated zfs filesystems. No biggie.
I thought that my problems had something to do with de-duplication in 134, so I went about the process of

ZFS recovery tools
Hi,
I have just recovered from a ZFS crash. During the antagonizing time this took, I was surprised to
learn how undocumented the tools and options for ZFS recovery we''re. I managed to recover thanks
to some great forum posts from Victor Latushkin, however without his posts I would still be crying
at night...
I think the worst example is the zdb man page, which all it does is to ask you
