Draft port of lucene highlighter to ferret
Hi All, Hope all is going well. After being knocked out with the flu for a week I''ve been able to make some progress with porting the lucene highlighter to ferret. I''ve got a draft version available for perusal at: http://crafterm.net/ruby/highlighter/highlighter-ruby-0.1.tar.gz The port is pretty much a complete copy of the Java version at:

Grep style output?
Hi All, Hope all is going well. Was just wondering if anyone has implemented a grep style output page of hits using Ferret as the index/query engine? Any thoughts about how best to implement it? The previous thread discussess highlighting - would that be the best approach to follow or is there a better way? Cheers, Marcus -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Is it possible to highlight search keywords in results?
I''m wondering if ferret has any built-in search/replace mechanism that I might be able to use to highlight the query data in each search result. The reason I think this would be a good idea is that I could end up having to practically duplicate the ferret query parser just to interpret the query so that I can figure out how to highlight the keywords in the search results. Just in case

Ferret 0.10.6 released (and some benchmarks)
Hey folks, ** Description ** Firstly for those who don''t know, Ferret is a full-text search library which makes adding search to your application a breeze. It''s much faster than MySQL full-text search as well most other search libraries out there. It allows you to do Boolean (+ruby + rails -jewelry) and phrase queries ("the quick brown fox") as well as some more

Ferret is now accepting donations
Hey folks, Since this is the Ferret mailing list I should preface this by that the donation of time and help by people like Jens Kraemer, Jan Prill and all the other people who have contributed to Ferret is just as valuable to me as any financial assistance. Thanks. Ferret has been a labour of love but it has taken up a lot more of my life than I ever expected. At in excess of 50,000 lines of

Proposal of some radical changes to API
Hey guys, Now that the Lucy[1] project has Apache approval and is about to begin, the onus is no longer on Ferret to strive for Lucene compatability. (We''ll be doing that in Lucy). So I''m starting to think about ways to improve Ferret''s API. The first part that needs to be improved is the Document API. It''s annoying having to type all the attributes to

Location of match?
Is it possible with Ferret to find the location of the matches in a document? For example imagine I have 100 documents and I search with the phrase "bob~0.5" and that returns 3 matching documents. How can I then find all locations in a specific document where it matched "bob~0.5". What I need is something like an array that contains the start index and length for each

Windows progress
Hi there, What''s the current status of the Windows port? I may be in a position to lend a hand over the next couple of weeks - where should I start looking? And what''s the best way to get SVN HEAD? This happens: $ svn checkout svn://www.davebalmain.com/ferret/trunk ferret svn: Can''t connect to host ''www.davebalmain.com'': Connection refused --

Problems with creating my own syntax highlighter
Well, I wanted to make my own syntax highlighter using Wx::StyledTextCtrl. The easiest way to do it seemed to parse the text contents in a content-changed-event. But it doesn''t seem to work.. I tried to edit the scintilla sample and added this event(@sci is the StyledTextCtrl): @sci.evt_stc_change(@sci.get_id) do @sci.clear_document_style @sci.start_styling(1,31)

USB ports on Lenovo T400 do not work after a suspend/resume
Hi, FreeBSD-9 works fine on this Lenovo T400 - except that suspending with no USB devices plugged in result in no ports working after resume. If I have a device plugged in during suspend - on any port - then all the ports work fine after resume. I've attached usbconfig and acpidump output. here's what is logged in the kernel buffer during suspend and resume: Her'es the suspend:

Community help: creating Syntax-Highlighter-brush for R and WordPress.com
Hello dear R community, *Background:* Since I see more and more R users who blog about R opening their blogs in WordPress.com, I contacted one of their workers asking if they could add Syntax highlight support for R. He replied to me saying that if there was a "Brush" for R, according to the format given here:

Ruby Syntax Highlighter v2
Hi all, The original release of my ruby syntax highlighter generated a fair bit of interest, so I thought I''d let everyone know that I''ve updated it. You can now save the code on the server, so you can show it to other people if you''re a bit of an exhibitionist. If you do so, it generates a unique URL for your code to pass around. It also uses my tinyurl/rubyurl

Email to HP Product Suggestions - Seamless Transparent Fax Gateway
i sent a product suggestion to HP. It was a request to use software that already exists in their JetDirect and Multifunction Fax machines to make them seamlessly interoperate with a fax gateway in a way transparent to the end user. Essentially, giving the sysadmin a choice in fax transport mechanism to route all faxes over analog telephone transport or over the network. Thank you for taking

Ferret Win32 Gem for windows users ...
Hi and thanks for Ferret! I''m wondering if it would be possible to create a Ferret Win32 gem which includes the c performance code pre-compiled for those of us without a C compiler handy ? Zed Shaw seems to have cracked this particular nut with his Mongrel Win32 gem. Alternately, is there a zip of the Win32 .so Ferret needs that I could download and manually install? Kind Regards

Segmentation fault in Search::Searcher#highlight
I''m using ferret 0.10.14 in Linux Fedora 3. When I do highlight with Index::Index#highlight, it works well. But, doing the same test with Searcher#highlight, [BUG] Segmentation fault occurred. Here''s my test code. require ''rubygems'' require ''ferret'' include Ferret::Search #searcher = Ferret::Index::Index.new(:path =>

Highlighting returns entire field in Ferret trunk?
Hello, I''m using Ferret trunk (#770) with Kyle''s large file support patch: http://ferret.davebalmain.com/trac/ticket/215 I''m having trouble with Ferret::Search::Searcher#highlight returning too much text around the query term. Regardless of what I set :excerpt_length to, highlight returns the entire contents of the field up to the first occurrence of the search
