R slower after etch->lenny upgrade
Hi. Last week I updated from 32 bit etch to 32 bit lenny on an AMD SMP machine. I first cloned the system disk to an identical drive, and updated the cloned drive. I still have the etch install untouched on the previous drive, which has allowed me to do some testing. After the update R has slowed down significantly. A user brought this to my attention, and at this point we have only

plans for lenny-cran? can I help?
Hi, I'm running a highschool network with Debian etch and the etch-cran "backports" on top of it. Being bio-informatics, the newest R is essential to us. I did some upgrading experiments; switching to ubuntu is not an option, neither is fetching the sid debs for r. When trying to upgrade from etch to lenny with etch-cran packages installed things block on etch-cran dependencies.

Testing Xen on Lenny
Hello, I've been asked to test this, can anyone help me? The platform I would like to test on: - Lenny/amd64 - Intel VT-i (Xen HVM support) I've looked over the various threads and wiki pages on the issue and I thought I would try to summarise it more concisely: dom0 (32 bit): - regular install using Lenny CD, Debian Installer, i386 - install the kernel package from etch,

Install latest R version from apt on Lenny
well, I had the site and page and I had added the relevant backport but it didn't work and i keep installing R 2.7 . Don't know why; i probably missed something. #### May be you should add in your mail the file : /etc/apt/sources.list (I suppose there might be a typo, as IT addresses are long and booring, and AFAIK, correcting a typo one made is **very** difficult). FYI binary installs

Xen advice requested
Hello, For a few months I build a new Xen server, both domU en dom0 are 64-bits. I had some hardware problems, that's the reason the server is not doing production-work now, but I would like to go in production real soon. My problem is that I made this server for a longer term. And I don't see a 64-bit domU in the 2.6.25 kernel, only a 32-bit domU kernel with PAE support. My processor

Problem with sasl auth with postfix...
Hello list, I'm running into some problems, and I couldn't find any info about this anywhere on the net. I recently set up a new debian lenny machine, and used my notes from the last debian etch machine I set up, which basically is for postfix + dovecot for sasl auth. On my old etch box, in the dovecot.conf, in the auth default section, I have a socket listen { client { path

Debian and Ubuntu packages of 1.0.17
I uploaded packages of 1.0.17 to Debian unstable more than a month ago, and also updated the xapian-backports PPA on launchpad: https://launchpad.net/~xapian-backports/+archive/ppa But more recently and more notably, I've now uploaded backported packages for Debian 5.0 (the current stable release, codename lenny) and Debian 4.0 (the "oldstable" release, codename etch) to

lenny-cran AMD64
Hi. First, I would like to thank all the contributors to this project for their efforts. Given that we primarily use Debian and R as our computing platform, having access to these backports has been very beneficial. I have been looking in the last couple of days for AMD64 lenny backports of the R 2.9.0 packages in lenny-cran. Will these appear in due course or are there issues backporting

Error: Device 0 not connected
Hi, I''m new to Xen and I''ve set up a few domUs using Debian (I suspect there may be a problem there, see at end). To begin with everything worked OK, I rebooted domUs without any problems, but twice now when I try when I try to restart or shutdown a domain, the xm command locks up. # xm list Error: Device 0 not connected Usage: xm list [options] [Domain, ...] List information

Status of samba packages in Debian
It's been some time since I didn't send an update about samba packages in Debian. Here it is. Fairly long, sorry for this. As preliminary facts: Debian entered a full freeze in Mid-August, in preparation of the next release, codename "squeeze". It means that packages uploaded to Debian unstable no longer migrate to testing (which is "the next release", so squeeze right

isolinux problems with more than a bunch of files in the iso root
hallo, it seems isolinux.bin has a lockup problem if there are more than a handfull of files in the rootdirectory of the .iso image. (I found it with a self-created install dvd with 530 packages in the rootdir) The old version 3.31 shipped with Debian Etch was ok, the newer version 3.71 now shipped with Debian Lenny, and also the current git snapshot 18734bb0 are broken. clients that are not a part of the domain cannot authenticate
Hi, I have asked that last week with a little different subject, but the problem remains. When connecting with a Windows machine (not part of the domain) to the Samba server, the client is not authenticating, even when the user exists in the domain. Domain master is a Windows 2003 SBS machine, the Samba server is a Debian Lenny machine. The problem is occurring with Samba 3.2.13, with Samba

Bizarre problem
I can not see how this could be a xen and/or amd64 problem but the evendence seem to point to it. I''m running ltsp under xen 3.4.2 64 bit dom0 on 5 servers. Noticed that on some systems that acroread always crashes when opening a pdf with a fillable form. I see no error messages anywere. Some domu are 32bit debian etch using pygrub. Some domu are 64 bit debian lenny using

Re : Install latest R version from apt on Lenny
OK, thanks both. I'll try that. I suspect (very strongly) that it comes from the fact that I did not replace the cran mirror line by an actulal cran mirror URLs... I will give a look at all my backports this weekend and do a little cleaning too! thanks,   David Biau.   ################################# From: Johannes Ranke <jranke@uni-bremen.de> To: r-sig-debian@r-project.org

DomU with Etch does not work on Lenny dom0
Hello, My domU's with Lenny do work without problems, but when I try to use Etch I can start the domU, but I cannot ping the domU. When I start the domU with "xm create name.cfg -c" I see this: ------ mount: Mounting /root/dev on /dev/.static/dev failed: No such file or directory Done. mount: Mounting /sys on /root/sys failed: No such file or directory mount: Mounting /proc on

Problems with Wine on Debian
Hello all, I am fairly new to Linux, so I hope that the following problem is not just me being ... new to Linux. I have been trying to install Wine on Debian (Etch 4.09 I think it is called). I first tried to use the apt-get install Wine command followed by the winecfg (creating the .wine folder), but when I tried to run the notepad.exe (i.e. with the command wine

Upgrade Samba Server Operating System version
Hi all, I'm using Samba 3.0.24-6etch10 in Debian Etch 64bit with kernel Linux 2.6.18-6-amd64. I'm planning to upgrade my Samba Server from Debian Etch to Debian Lenny. Will this affect Samba? Is it safe to perform upgrade from apt-get upgrade? Thank you all for your help. -- Best regards, Ooi Kwan Chen (John), System Support, Server Management Section, Group IT Department, DXN
