pci passthrough question. Do I need VT-D ?
Hi,
I really need help. I spent 2 days already on this pci passthrough thing.
I''m using Xen 3.2.1 with Centos 5.2 64 bits on intel VT. I''d like to
use PCI passthrough and I don''t think I need VT-D functionality.
I''m trying to pass PCI 12:01.0 to my domU guest.
I got this error when I use "xm create /etc/xen/hvm_centos_2.cfg"

RE: [PATCH] [VT] SMP VMX guest AP bring up need calldo_boot_vcpu in hypervisor
Hi Keir, this patch changes common code of xen hypervisor, but seems we
have to, because current call to do_boot_vcpu is always from domains,
however, for SMP VMX guest AP bring up, we need call it from xen
hypervisor,
so we''d like to split it.
What''s your opinion?

RE: A question on vmx loader in xen - how and when rombiosis loaded into memory
Thank you.
I notice the system then jumps to F000:FFF0 to execute. But because VMX is turned on, switching to real-mode would incur problems?
I don’t find any clue to turn on the vm86 mode as Readme in the tools/firmware directory puts.

Do I need a xenU initrd image?
Hi,
I just created a Xen domU using http to install over the network. How
do I now restart the domU and use the installed OS? I gather I need a
initrd image to boot my guest. I''ve found bits and pieces of answers to
my question referring to mkinitrd, but none seem to work.
I am running Scientific Linux 5.
Thanks in advance,
Cam

Do I need portmap, haldeamon & xfs running on dom0?
Hi all
I have a CentOS 5.1 server running Xen and recently installed
ConfigServer Firewall (CSF) on the main node to give it some protection.
On a daily basis I''m getting an email about portmap. haldeamon and xfs
consumming too much resources. The main node, dom0 doesn''t even do
anything, and everything is done on the domU''s

Question re Debian, xen and performance problems
Hello,
I''ve been handed down a working configuration of (amongst others) an
Intel quadcore server running a dom-0 with 4 domU''s (each restricted
to 1 cpu). They all run Debian etch and xen 3.0.3 (as far as I can
tell). I''m familiar with the concept of virtualization, but haven''t
actually used it in production, like this server is.
Each domU is used for

RE: Newbie question - unable to start guest OS on Fedora 8 <solved>
OK, I managed to get past this problem. There were two issues - I did not have peth0 configured correctly (as you can see, the ifconfig output does not show a peth0). That was resolved by fixing my settings in the network manager. The second issue was that I don''t have a static IP address, so I selected the option for DHCP on wireless during the guest host setup. I switched to static IP

Re: [Xen‑users] Should I use HVM?
Your decision on what platform to go with depends on your requirements
of course.
Some observations from my end:
Running a non-HVM platform limits you currently to OS where the OS
itself has been para-virtualized. An HVM-enabled platform enables your
future for changes that you may not have planned for at this time.
Also, keep in mind that as you look at the management tools available

PXE boot post-install-script example?
Hi I am trying to get a Xen machine fully configured using PXE, and I
am able to see Xen pull the script I specify from my webserver,
however I tried making it a simple bash script and it didn''t seem to

post-install-script? And particulars about when it is run, ie is it
run after the reboot, is it run as root, how can I get debug output

Nagios Monitoring with xentop
I am creating some custom nagios plugins and I am scraping data from
xen using the nagios command:
/usr/sbin/xentop -b -i 2 -d1
I am trying to get the network tx / rx data, however I think I am
missing something here.
NETTX(k) NETRX(k)
So total network bandwidth is 1048576 k if the above header from xentop is true.
So I am wondering why the output for each vm exceeds the theoretical

I''m not sure about the newer controllers, but the older generation
certainly couldn''t do DMA above 4GB, and relied on bounce buffers or
GART support.
To try and recreate your setup we put an old 3ware controller in a
machine with 6GB and have been hitting it
