I have a column called ''time_in'' and it is actually a timestamp so it
has a date and a time.
I created a method in my model called time_in_date which is simply
time_in.strftime("%m/%d/%Y")
I can''t do an sql find on a column that doesn''t exist so how do I find
for a specific date?

Teaching Models to Render Themselves in the Controller
I am trying to teach my models how to render themselves, i.e.
<%= my_model_object.render() %>
Let me explain my reasoning and proposed method before this gets shot
down as anti-MVC.
Let''s say I am writing a contact-management application. I have a
class Contact. I will need to display this class all over the
application. My first choice is to use a partial.
Now I can

Defeating Timing Attacks
Hello,
In response to the timing analysis attacks presented by Dawn Song et.

we
at Silicon Defense developed a patch for openssh to avoid such
measures.
Timing Analysis Evasion changes were developed by C. Jason Coit and Roel
Jonkman of Silicon Defense.
These changes cause SSH to send packets unless request not to,

keystroke timing attack
I'm reading this fine article on O'Reilly:
http://linux.oreillynet.com/lpt/a//linux/2001/11/08/ssh_keystroke.html
<quote>
The paper concludes that the keystroke timing data observable from
today's SSH implementations reveals a dangerously significant amount of
information about user terminal sessions--enough to locate typed
passwords in the session data stream and reduce the

I have added roles and roles_users table and updated the model so that
my users can have multiple roles.

I have added these methods to my application controller.

IMAP IDLE
Hi,

Well your confs are almost mine except for
director_ping_idle_timeout = 30 secs
submission_relay_max_idle_time = 29 mins
but i think they're not imap related (i may be wrong)
any other hint why is this happening?
I was used to the old IMAP server than dovecot, where emails appear in the

Newbie Q: "user" variable in every view?
Newbie to RoR -- as a long time Java Struts/etc. guy it is an awesome tool!
I have implemented some basic login/session stuff with the help of a great
tutorial, props to the author (
http://www.aidanf.net/rails_user_authentication_tutorial).
I have a trivial instance method in ApplicationController, which just grabs
the User object from the session.
def current_user

the
folks who have made themselves available to help with testing.
Net::LDAP has been quite stable for several months now, so we bumped

(slightly O/T) Agile dev. contract form for clients?
Apologies for cross-posting.
We''ve been asked to do a job for a client who wants to embrace agile
development methodologies. Hurrah!
However, our standard contract was written for the 1980s. It is full
of phrases like "agreed specification" and "change request procedure"
and so on.
I was wondering, how do other people get around this in contract
forms with
